Qantas A380 - Upper deck economy

The only real downsides to 35J/K are:
1. No side bins
2. Cold air from the door
3. Tiny overhead bins

But at at 186CM I would take 35J/K ahead of 32 J/K and make sure I was at the front of the queue for boarding.

Given there aren't any side bins in the downstairs economy I don't see this as a downside, just less of an upside :) The cold air doesn't bother me, I actually prefer it! I agree on the overhead bins though. You definitely don't want to be the last people boarding the upstairs economy section.

You also have no window that you can see out of when seated. If that's an issue.

I will be on QF11 & 12 in June (SYD/LAX) and only a bronze FF and thinking about purchasing a seat on the upper deck. I will be travlling with my partner and prefer seating in a 2 seat config where we can.

I have been reading the whole thread and noticed not many people have commented on 33a/b. This is the only 2 seat config seats available i can purchase on the outbound flight. I have looked at some pictures. Anyone comment on this? Can the seat recline all the way as I noticed a wall behind it.

Also on the return flight the only seat available is 36j/k and similar questions....anyone comment? Can it recline all the way as well?

I know there is lots of general positivity about the upper economy deck but I can't in good faith not mention my one experience - that the sound of screaming toddlers and smells of unwell passengers are ever-so-intensified by the reduced air volume of the mini-cabin.

Maybe I got an unfortunate set of people nearby, but I've taken the downstairs sections from there on.

I sat in 33K on SYD-HKG when it was still an A380 and I would recommend it. Plenty of leg room (unlike row 32) and the recline is not restricted and you don't have a 'Reclining naz_' behind you.

Sorry to comment OT, however I didn’t want to start a new thread…speaking of being in the upper deck of an A380 SYD/HKG.

While we still have a few flights operated by an A380 between Sydney and Hong Kong over the peak season, we’re no longer selling seats in the First cabin.

Instead, these seats will be available to Chairmans Lounge, Platinum One and Platinum members, as well as Business passengers holding J and C class fares.

Should you have an existing booking, or are looking to make a new one, seats may be selected online via Manage Your Booking effective immediately.

If I wanted to be mischievous, I could read the bolded text as meaning that CL, WP1 and WP can select seats in the F cabin regardless of class of travel. Nice enhancement, if only it were true :).

My partner and I loved 36J/K on our LAX-MEL leg last year. It's quite private and you can fully recline without annoying anyone behind you. The only minor issue my partner had is that she likes to sleep against the window and there is a bit of a gap between the seat and window due to the storage bin.

I'm a big fan of the upstairs economy cabin. I'm hoping a seat opens up there at T-80 for my QF93 trip on Sunday 18th Jan.

Ok, I'll bite:

CL, WP1 and WP can select seats in the F cabin, regardless of the class they book in the Business cabin. This includes redemption seats in U class.

An unnecessary clarification, but thanks for playing along :).

Hi dipper303m,

my daughter who is 6ft tall flew Melb - lax last week in 33A. She said it was the best economy seat she has ever had.
it is one of two, and has the side storage bins. Also, no one behind you grabbing your seat as they get up, or anyone to complain when you do have your own seat reclined.

good luck with your choice, and enjoy the trip.

TQ

We flew back from London in those seats and they were OK, flight wasn't crowded. in fact a few snuck into business and slept in those seats. They are roomy enough and I am 6ft 2in

Any information on whether this also includes Oneworld Emeralds?

Oh wow... I think a trip to honkers may be in order!!

Hello all! Apologies if this has been covered (I had quick scroll through but couldn't find it) - when do the "blocked" upper deck economy seats get released? We are Silver QFF and have just booked QF1 flights for May 2016 but were unable to select any upper deck seats. Expert flyer is showing that Row 32 and 33 are currently blocked. Will these be released on check-in (if they aren't booked by higher status members in the meantime?) Thanks in advance!

That's how I read it too actually.

Blocks are normally released at ~T-80 (about 80h prior to flight departure time).
