Qantas Accused of Price Gouging

Nah, too easy. This is a customer problem caused by their customers.
The most annoying customers are those who complain because they can't rebook their flight due our rebooking system not working. I mean, grow up customers, stop shifting blame back on Qantas. We built these systems to serve you, the least you could do is watch those helpful videos we put together for you before calling!

Just thought I'd share that A Current Affair has just posted a follow up on their story on QF price gouging including a Sydney mum who ended up paying $800 return to book herself and one other person on SYD > MEL just for the privilege of using a flight credit. The last part of the segment where they interview a QF representative, though was a bit of a soft ball. They should've asked, why are passengers paying hundreds of dollars more for the same flight and fare using flight credits versus making a new booking?

QF is asking for $2000 odd for J rev tix, SYD - AKL.
Must be one of the highest I have ever seen.
This is the week before Christmas.

Economy is just as bad. Next month from Melbourne its $1000-$1500 return on Jetstar or Qantas.

Jetstar is also ripping everyone on this Melbourne-Margaret River flight. $800-$1000 return over the next few months. I would live with guilt forever paying that mob that much for such a flight.

NZ charging much the same. VA of course is MIA for the moment (as are the Chinese 5th freedom flights). Fingers crossed a few startup again long before then!

Which means that running a DSC would not play in favour of us with these conditions 🥲
Unless you’re PC/PC+ and can find some interesting reward seat combos… Not as good but better than nothing.

But five days a week one can fly on the reputedly very good CI (China Airlines of the very advanced society of Taiwan) from BNE to AKL for less than the 'duopoly', although I only checked fares from BNE not from SYD (or MEL). It has an impressive J cabin. I have been to Taiwan more than once but patronised Eva Air multiple times rather than CI, although its lounge in Taipei was good (though slightly spooky dark wood prevailed).

LA is similarly half the price of QF/NZ.

Paid under $1900 each on QR ADL-AKL return next month.
For the dates we needed NZ was a touch over $2k from SYD and QF was $2700. LA was the cheapest at around $1400.
Very happy to avoid the East Coast transit and fly with a pretty darn good airline

Yes, they are a saving measure.
When I get my next pay slip, will look into either them or the day AirNZ flight on a Wed for my flight out to NZ.
Have already got an Air NZ 787 premY flight back to MEL.

Just a note on this… CI offers double dailies from SYD to TPE. The standalone SYD-TPE has the new cabin, while at least some if not all the AKL-SYD-TPE rotation has the very old angled lie flats… and not even flat at that, they are more ‘z’ position.

I did see some A330’s on the route but it seems to be back to just the one daily to SYD now which are all on the A350.
AKL is serviced 6 times per week by the A350 via BNE

oh! we lucked out. We redeemed awards for family members this week to travel back for CNY… lots of availability, but on the second daily with angled flats :(
