Qantas American Express Premium card - getting the first year fee waived

Hi. I'm considering signing up for the Qantas American Express Premium card (mostly for the 80k points sign up bonus). I've got the ANZ Black card that waives the first year fee and I was wondering if someone tried (and succeeded) getting American Express to waive or refund the yearly fee in the first year (I know it happens in subsequent years once you're an established customer with proven value).

If so, what was your approach?
