After applying using a referral myself, I wanted to start a referral thread for the current offer on the Qantas Ultimate Amex for anyone who might be considering the card. Expiring 31 October, the offer is:
By signing up using a referral link you'll help us (or another forum member who might share their link below) get slightly closer to a holiday and points club!
Some further notes:
- 75,000 Qantas Points for new card members after spending $3,000 on eligible purchases in three months
- 20,000 Qantas Points for the referrer
- $450 annual fee, but with a $450 annual Qantas 'credit'
- 1.25 points/$ for everyday spend, 2.25 at Qantas, 0.5 at government bodies
By signing up using a referral link you'll help us (or another forum member who might share their link below) get slightly closer to a holiday and points club!
Some further notes:
- While this current bonus is lower than historical rates of over 100-130k (and up to 50k for the referrer), you may (like I did) have other reasons to apply for the card, such as wanting to use the travel credit.
- It was recently announced that from 2025, after earning a total of 100k points in a calendar year, the ongoing everyday earn rate would reduce slightly. Take this into consideration if you plan to put an overwhelming amount of spend through the card.
- The card has a $3,000 minimum credit limit. The selection of a limit is towards the end of your application, after the credit check is done.
- As always, you need to have not held an amex for at least 18 months to be eligible for the bonus.
- Paying off the balance in full each month will help you to avoid incurring the high interest rates common to awards cards.
- In my experience, Amex usually award bonus points as soon as you hit the spend criteria, even in the first month. If you are aiming to time your bonus to hit points club or points club plus in a particular membership month, keep this in mind.
- Amex have in the past offered bonus points for adding supplementary/additional cardholders (eg. 5000 points to add a card for your spouse). It could be worth holding off adding additional cardholders until one of these promotions comes up.
- In the past, Qantas have offered extra bonus points for people who haven't held a points-earning-card in a certain period of time. It's worth checking their cards website to see if there's a current offer, as you could end up with tens of thousands of new points, even if you then come back here and apply for the card via a referral link.
