Pending ACCC approval ;)

I don't see why they wouldn't get it though. Good news overall.

Yes, and I see they have a option for a further 5 years too.
I think it has been a win/win for both parties and definitely for those here in Australia

Hardly unsurprising. Good news for our QFF points! Though I kinda wish QF would get closer to Qatar as well.
I've always been a big fan of the QF-EK alliance and have benefited many times from it. But when QR joined OneWorld, things got a bit odd.

Now, as QF frequent flyers, we are in the unusual position to being able to snap rewards seats and earn points on 2 of the big Middle Eastern carriers. One of which Qantas quite happily is in bed with and another one which they don't seem to happily cooperate quite as much.

Hopefully WY added to that soon 🤞

This has been one of the best deals Qantas has done in recent times for its customers overall.
Difficult for Adelaide folk to take advantage of double status credit offers, which require you to fly on Qantas metal. If you want to fly internationally from Adelaide on Qantas metal, you have to first fly interstate. Qantas hypes it's relationship with Emirates for Adelaide flyers, but compared with customers in other capital cities we're definitely second-class clients.

What is Qantas metal? ….. a type of aircraft?
It's Alan Joyce's heavy metal band. :p

Actually it's a flight operated by Qantas. so if you buy QF flight numbers to, say Europe via dubai, they are marketed by Qantas and flown on Emirates metal; i.e. the actual plane is Emirates'.

cheers skip

So SA flyers could fly interstate first. Like Tasmanians I guess :)

Maybe when the A321XLRs gets introduced into QF mainline service, I'd suspect QF may reintroduce ADL-SIN then, though wouldn't surprise me if JQ's A321LRs get in first instead for the low yielding/tourist traffic destinations via 3K's (J* Asia) SIN hub.

Hardly a surprise but Australia’s competition regulator the ACCC has issued a draft determination re-authorising the alliance between Qantas and Emirates for a further five years.
