Again, though, your comments can be at quite some odds. There is a decent disparity online of the quality of QF service, even in F. Have seen some scathing reviews on here as well as on FT. That's not to say it's bad, but it certainly isn't bulletproof.

As if to compensate, however, I can't think of many airlines with F that are bulletproof, but some get away with just "it was ho-hum" reviews rather than some scathing ones.

As we've established over chat, I prefer to go with personal experiences/preferences rather than hype or 2nd/3rd hand experiences. ;) Every airline has both its fans and detractors, and online forums can be a place where the only opinions put up are at extreme ends of the spectrum. If QF F wasn't at all good we wouldn't have the endless "QF vs BA vs CX" debates on both here and FT; notice there are supporters and detractors of the same product/s in equal measure. And i don't think you'd see anyone putting up a "Average, Uneventful Flight" type review. At the end of the day there will always be people who prefer the QF/BA 'style' and others who prefer CX/SQ etc. There are numerous reasons I prefer the former some of which are the same reasons people dislike the former and prefer the latter. Just like W Hotels vs St Regis or Four Seasons. ;)

IMO that QF J cabin is like Y with nicer seats. Standing almost anywhere up the front you can look around and see virtually all the passengers.

If travelling alone you have the 'chopping board' which can pull up for a sliver of extra privacy, picking your moment to do this without making the stranger sitting right next to you feel rejected is fun.

IMO BA layout is better than QF, especially for J PAX travelling on their own.
QFs layout is for couples with the afterthought of privacy resulting in the 'chopping board'.

The whY cabin doesn't give you SO much legroom either. ;)

I like chatting with strangers when traveling on my own, all part of the fun of traveling. Some of my very good friends - i met them on the plane. I'd always pick aisle seats with the BA config, otherwise it feels too isolating and closed up with the shades drawn up. Also you can't easily lean over and get to know your seatmate either, which decreased the attractiveness of the BA seat for me. I flew NGCW on the 744, and at least with the aisle seat I found that i could easily strike up a convo with the person across the aisle. For this reason I like the QF config as it's more social. At least the old BA config doesn't feel so closed up, as the privacy dividers on that config doesn't seem to close up properly. I guess NGCW is attractive for people who want to avoid talkers like me though. :p

Maybe we need a bar onboard ala VS. ;)
