Qantas Baggage - broken suitcase

After a heap of fun in business class, I didn't mention that somewhere between JFK/LAX/SYD my suitcase got severly damaged! I have a hard shell suitcase and the handle was broken right off, and there are 2 cuts or cracks in the plastic. It wasn't like this when I dropped it off at JFK

Just took it into T1 in Sydney, they took details, and even asked what class I flew ... obviously this makes a different I assume ?

They said they will be in touch with me soon ...

Has anyone had good/bad experiences with Qantas fixing/replacing their suitcase?

Qantas baggage handlers in Sydney are famous the world over for slow workmanship, bad attitude and damaging travel luggage. Most of us in Australia know of Qantas baggage handlers reputation and choose to fly either other airlines through Sydney, or take the risk that our luggage will sustain some type of damage there. Sometimes we just have no choice but to use Sydney International, but if you have a choice, just remember to avoid it.

My own experience in 2009 was disgusting. I HAD to fly to Sydney before flying on to Jakarta and Qantas lost my (and my boss's, who was flying with me) luggage, and my boss had 3 small children, 2 being twin babies.
We flew from Brisbane to Sydney and on to JKT...but Qantas lost all our luggage so on arrival in JKT none of us had anymore than carry-ons. My boss was connecting immediately and as it was late at night, she had no spare nappies or formula for the babies as she had used all else in the flight.
Our luggage was still sitting on the ground at Sydney Airport!
When mine finally arrived, it was damaged and at this point, have had a devil of a job trying to find somewhere to repair it.
I hope NOT to fly through Sydney again....but to be fair, Qantas International
flight and cabin crews were just great. Hope your next trip will be better...just avoid Sydney

Hisgirl,

Welcome to AFF.

My experience is that this can happen anywhere and not just SYD. Perth seems to be the worst but have also had issues at several airports in the USA.
