Qantas Bashing - what do you make of it?

You get a warm feeling in your what?!? I mean I like Qantas as much as the next flyer, but that's quite a fondness you have there!

I have fallen victim to iPad's Spelling AutoCorrect there. Quite the embarrassment.

It should have said Heart. Would a moderator please save my cheeks from turning red and correct this?

Sidenote... You must have a twisted mind to pick that up. :p

Perhaps the auto-correct could have helped with this post too?:mrgreen::mrgreen:

Of course finally you have to weight all that against, is the average bogan really going to fly qantas on a frequent basis? Will Qantas really miss the couple of thousand that the bogan would have given them to fly them to Thailand once every couple of years?

.

Some airlines do nicely out of this business. Dont underestimate word of mouth

To reply to this topic truthfully I fear I must take a walk down memory lane....

'Tis sometime long ago and a young yohy?! is visiting the Qantas Jetbase in Mascot for a school excursion. Nothing could be more exciting than touring the training facilities, taking part in an evac excercise (including slide trip) and then exploring an active 747 (complete with coughpit).

Return to the present day...No longer striving to be the best unfortunately QF today is a slashed-and-burned shadow of it's former self.

So bash or not bash it's all academic to me - the damage is done :(

How do you explain Ansett then, at the time it went down the union were still refusing to budge on any cuts to their (at the time fairly enormous) benefits.
The union input into the Ansett collapse was about a half of one percent (or less) so is totally irrelevent to the discussion :!:

Some of the tangents that people have gone off on since I looked at this thread 1.5 days ago are amazing.

I hear that VA had an engine issue resulting in a rejected take off (LAX rejected takeoff for V Australia flight | Australian Aviation Magazine)

Notice that despite "flames" and "aborting" the take off, it didn't make national headlines.

If it had been QF, it surely would have.

You obviously have not been keeping an eye on the local press, it certainly made news one to two days ago but I suppose we have moved on, and so we should.

My apologies. I should have said "front page news" - I searched news.com.au and the Fairfax sites on the day it happened and it was either not up, or hidden far down the page.

I agree, we should move on as it was a small incident that was handled well by the crew - what I am saying though is the same exists for Qantas, however it is so often blown out of proportion, which in essence is "Qantas Bashing".

Unfortunately, I think QF is entirely responsible for its own image and subsequent "bashing". It has been on a slippy downward spiral in almost every respect and is very quickly losing whatever "shine" it may have left. IMO it is no longer a world class airline and is certainly no better than DJ in the domestic skies, so I find my self asking why I continue to support an airline that I really dont care for? After 8 consecutive years of loyalty, I am sad and disappointed at what they have become and for that, they are solely responsible!

Only you can answer that. If you are not happy and believe that DJ is better it seems you have to make the switch. I'm not sure I'm ready to make that switch yet, I quite like my ability to select decent seats and J lounge domestic access.

QF is an easy target for both media and customers alike. I have my whinges and moans about QF, but having flown BA and AA in the last year I think QF is not too bad. :)

your absolutely right.... but how many times can you be disappointed before enough is enough? Its not a switch I want to make, but I just don't feel like I have a choice. QF fail so miserably at things that they used to excel at and the constant reduction in benefits and service is beyond a joke. As for BA and AA, I totally understand where you are coming from, but we are not "their" loyal customers, we are apparently QF's. It is up to them to live up to their end of the deal and sadly, I find I get better treatment with BA or AA and particularly CX than I do with my "own" airline, so again.... what's the point?
Regarding the new luggage tags, how MANY times do you need to ask for them before you just give up? should I hound them weekly or daily? I dont think so. I understand things happen, but what is in my opinion inexcusable is when you give them several opportunities to rectify the issue and they REPEATEDLY fail to do so. It then is no longer about the original problem, but more so the way they treat their "highly valued" customers. I'm not expecting them to be perfect, but be honest about it, admit you coughed up, fix the problem and we all live happily ever after.
My definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result, and sadly the QF result never changes.......its the same rubbish over and over and OVER and im sick of it!
