Qantas BPay Option

Hi

I booked a flight with qantas yesterday using the bpay option which says you must bpay by midnight that night

Anyhow, I was having troubles with the bpay with my bank last night, and didnt get to do it until about 9am this morning. I was going to cancel the booking and pay by credit card this morning, but the flights had gone up by $300!!!

Has anyone had experience with paying the bpay AFTER midnight and it all being processed OK?

Give them a call and explain the situation. Only Qantas can really tell you if it is going to be accepted or not.
 
Thanks, I did call and ask if I could pay her there and then on the spot with a credit card. She would of had to cancel the bpay booking and then process another booking (which then I explained to her my situation of the fares going up) she said she thinks if it hasnt landed with them by 6pm today then thats when they will cancel the booking so suggested I try again. She couldnt say if it would work or not. When I log onto my FF account, the booking is still showing up.
 
Second hand account, but FWIW my mate missed the midnight deadline by less than an hour she booked in the morning thinking she would come home from work and pay. She forgot. Hopped out of bed went to pay but she missed out. This happened a couple of years ago.

I have no knowledge of the Qantas process, but can make some observations from knowledge of BPay scheme participation requirements, and actual physical reality of the payment clearing.

BPay scheme rules require payment recipients to treat payments as being made on the day they are "paid" from the sending bank. This is despite the delays in the record of payment being actually transmitted (batched runs, transfers from one bank to another bank to the payment recipeient etc), meaning that it might take some time (a couple of days sometimes) for the payment to actually arrive. In practice, it normally arrives "late night, early morning" after the payment was done, provided it was done before the sending bank started processing.

Now in this situation, part of what is sent is when the payment was actually done. When receiving a file of payments late tonight or early tomorrow, there may be some done last night after the sending bank processed payment, but before midnight, and a whole lot done today. Qantas will be able to tell which were done before midnight (yesterday) and which were done today. Because of having to wait until they are sure all of "yesterday's" payments have arrived (think slow banks, public holidays in some states, timezones in WA etc), the booking will remain for a while, even though the BPay has not arrived, waiting them to work through the system.

When a BPay arrives (if it does), they can check when payment was made, and decide what to do. If done "before midnight", then you will be fine (regardless of delays with the banks), but after midnight, you are at the mercy of QF. If it physically arrives tonight (along with payments that were done before midnight), they may just process it and not worry, but the ability to distinguish is present.

The ancedotal evidence of ckck tends to suggest that the OP may not end up with the result they are after. :(

In terms of your situation, if you paid well after midnight, I.e. during the day today, then QF is not obliged to honor the payment/bookings. I guess though that if you can prove that you tried to pay on time but there was a problem with the bank, then that's a valid excuse and they should be a little bit flexible.

I booked a flight on Sunday afternoon, paid by bpay in the evening, Qantas didn't receive it till this morning (tues).

I pay by CC, but avoid the $7.70 / $30 CC fees by using vouchers.
 
I make most of my bookings on Qantas using BPay. On a few occasions I've done a late night booking, but then waited until the next day to go into my internet banking to make the payment. So far I've had no problems, but as they say in the classics YMMV.

On the occasion I have changed my mind and not paid, the booking stays in the "My Bookings" section of the Qantas website for a few days. So I guess they allow quite a bit of flexibility with getting payments in through BPay. From memory you also get an email when the booking has finally cancelled out if you don't make a payment.

...And if you make the booking on Friday evening, I guess you've really got until Sunday midnight to make the payment, even if they say it is due by midnight Friday.

I once booked on the Friday evening before a long weekend; it wasn't ticketed until the following Wednesday!
 
Don't you have to have a voucher for the exact amount and multiples of fixed amounts? If so, makes them of limited usefulness, I would have thought. Keen to learn otherwise.
There's some threads on it.

The main caveat is the base fare (before taxes, levies, Fule fines etc.) needs to be greater than the voucher value. Also, you can't do "multi-segment" bookings with them online.

e.g. I used a $50 voucher to purchase a $1100 all up fare MEL to NRT and back - thereby avoiding the $30 CC fee. The actual fare component was over $500.
