(strangely, it’s never the men bowing on the floor, is it
A point to note here though - recent QF flights (QF68, QF35, QF36) all had male CSMs who bowed on the floor when talking ... this is in Y, not even J ... Not contradicting what you said, just noting my experience/observation. Also on QF67, had a female CSM who bowed down, again in Y.

Did a PER-SYD weekend via MEL in J to accumulate SC's.

QF964 was an hour late out of Perth Saturday early AM, which scuppered my plan for breakfast in the MEL J lounge. Had feasted on the PER pizza so wasn't wanting any inflight food. The FA did a great job keeping my soda water topped up, even after I'd fallen asleep. No photos of that, sorry.

QF410 MEL-SYD on Saturday

Breakfast.jpg

More than serviceable breakfast on the short morning hop - it all tasted fine. Seemed like half the (full) flight were QF crew deadheading to SYD.

QF455 SYD-MEL on Tuesday

Lunch.jpg

Didn't want a heavy lunch, so was offered this plowman's plate - worked very well. Again, a *lot* of QF crew filling up the J seats...

QF777 MEL-PER on Tuesday

Dinner (2).jpg

Smoked pork pasta / Prawn salad. The generous pour of red was a shiraz/grenache that just didn't work for me. Asked for a muscat to accompany the cheese & crackers under the bread - none on board, only dessert wine, which was disappointing.

This flight was delayed 45 mins at MEL gate. Really poor work by the cabin crew IMHO - the pilot announced we would be delayed by at least another 15 mins, but no thought to bring a PDB to the J cabin, instead the two FA's stood in the galley and whinged about work, and co-workers. At T+35mins, they design to hand out bottles of water to us.

I'm sure others have made this observation, but J in the 737's on the transcontinental run really feels like only a marginal improvement on Y. I won't be making that mistake again.

Ha! I personally would LOVE seeing some male flight attendants bowing for a change :D

Appetiser: Really tasty, could have had a few more of them ;)
IMG_1197.jpeg
Starter: Have chosen the dumplings, which were really well cooked and tasty. The chilli had some decent heat and went well with the sauce. Of course with some leaves and nice sourdough
IMG_1198.jpeg
Main:
Have chooses the chicken saltimboca. This dish was mediocre, it was edible but the chicken was dry and the risoni with broccoli bland.
IMG_1199.jpeg
Dessert was fantastic, unfortunately I was too greedy and forgot to take a picture ;)

Breakfast:
Really enjoy the breakfast card as you can mix and match your breakfast. Crumpet, Yoghurt and Bacon and Egg roll. Everything really nice and tasty.IMG_1200.jpegIMG_1201.jpeg

Overall a very pleasant flight with a lovely and very attentive crew, only the main dinner dish was not up to standard.

I was flying LEA to MEL in J last week and sitting in row 2. Unfortunately they ran out of first choice by the time they got to me. 2 options available - pasta or soup. I guess nobody wanted soup given it’s a 4.5hr flight and it was lunch service. Cabin manager apologised and got me (and those in row 3) a meal from economy - pasta too. The soup wasn’t crash hot so I didn’t even finish it. I had some of my other half’s pasta and quality was same as the economy main pasta dish.

The service was good however. Crew came by often topping up drinks and handing out snacks and checking in to see if we needed anything else.
Photos attached of the pasta (what I missed out on 🤣😂), soup option and the economy pasta.

Flew QF81 SYD-SIN today 31 July 2023 in J. Seemed like all cabins full, except premium economy. Food service flow in J was poor and very slow. First came the first drinks order about 45 mins after take off, another 30 mins then past to receive some cold bread and rock hard butter, another 20 mins for appetisers, then another 45 mins for main. Close to 2.5 hours after takeoff to receive main. It was a daytime flight, but I can’t remember ever having such slow service in J, granted my recent J experience has been on ANA and Qatar, last QF J was 2019. Crew were friendly as always, but almost overly friendly; one of them spent upwards for 5 mins chatting to two pax as she was doing. Drinks service, whilst everyone else waited. The food itself was meh, the beef over cooked. I had low expectations of this flight and was happy enough to just have the space, but my friend who I was travelling with felt upset, as his reference point is SQ.

Have had that pasta in the box in the past, not one of my favourites.
The food was ok, but the box made it feel/felt like a LCC.
Hard to eat too, as worrid if the gravy might seep out of the box.
This was a while back, pre covid.
So they are still doing the elcheapo.
I remember at one time, when we had the real plate, a long time back now.
Cheap cheap now.

Maybe the lighting, but these don't look very appertising!

For a J service, looks quite measley/measly, actually.

Wasnt sure what routing that was, just checked, but for a 15 hour flight, yeap, its still quite measley/measly.

Well with 5+hrs delay in boarding I had actually eaten quite well in the first lounge so was happy with quick service so I could get some sleep.

Plating was mess, dumplings were ordinary but the steak was actually medium and tasty. Was offered more bread or a second dessert but was keen to sleep having worked overnight and only had 3 hours before leaving home.

Pie was mid-flight snack (full size not party)! Could have had many other things, plus nibbles from snack bar.

At breakfast I opted not to bother with cereal, yoghurt, fruit, toast etc all of which were offered in addition to the hot option. I did a have a croissant and a mini muffin not pictured (really would have preferred the unavailablecrumpet) , but there was a good amount of crispy (the way I like it) bacon.

I think the servings were genorous enough if you availed yourself of everything on offer and if you wanted more there was no issue. I was chatting with 3 of the FAs in the galley when i stretched my legs and went to rehydrate at about 8hr mark when most were sleeping and was asked if I wanted them to make me anything more.

So yes poor lighting didn't make for great photos, and presentation could have been better but no way one would be hungry.

Tend to agree with Pushka re food options and amounts on QF7 - which I last flew in Feb (and am flying QF21 aka MEL-DFW in just over a month, so expect pretty much the same). I also stuffed myself in the Flounge prior, and so was half in a food coma when I boarded, and as such I had a smaller dinner meal (ie I just had soup and dessert iirc) than most but - mid flight snack options, plus the galley area also having laid out snacks of various kinds - fruit, cheese plates, chips, biscuits etc, and the arrival breakfast (still a bit odd when QF7 arrives mid afternoon, but that's how these ULH ops go) and plenty of food imo. Plus, given QF offer a multi course setup in J, such as a soup or appetiser(yeah, I'm using the American word!) as a separate selection which some options means there are definitely a variety to pick from. Certainly far more variety and options than a certain US based carrier I just recently also did transpac J in (yes, flying UA made me miss QF catering*... take that whichever way you wish :D ).

I certainly did not come off that flight feeling hungry.

* IC sundae excepted.

We are flying to Bali in August. A trip to F Lounge in Melbourne for a sweet four hours transit from Adelaide. Husband has been warned to eat up in the lounge and expect to be disinterested in the food offering onboard. (He learnt this the hard way, but twice. Last time on the trip to Bali he didn't eat in F Lounge Sydney and they only served toasted Sanger in J to Bali, then more recently, not Qantas but MH, I ate in the lounge so went straight to sleep - but on a 7 hour flight the only meal offered, two Hours before arrival, was breakfast. He was hangry. 🫢)

Did something like a mini QF7, mine was the QF155, (my first red eye in years), ate in the lounge, and wanted to sleep on the flight, had window, so didnt want to eat or drink too much, took off near midnight MEL time, 2am AKL, arr 5am, after getting off, just the loo visit for a short time, then to immi and customs at AKL.
They did offered food to 2B, B737, (not related to me), think he had pie or something.
