Qantas Business Class meals & menus

QF 702 yesterday
Was interested to see what a 9.45 am service might be, too late for breakfast - bit early for lunch.
Service started about 40 minutes in as it was a tad bumpy departing Melbourne.
Either chicken salad or pasta.

Beef ragu was very tasty and I enjoyed it, the pasta was quite soft but that suited me due to my dental mishap the night before.
Others may call it too soggy and consider this more like a lasagne.
Carrot cake was just ok and top-ups sufficiently offered for that time of day.

Pax in Y had a Beef sausage roll and offered soft drinks, wine, and beer as flights 3+ hours now are offered this after 9 am I believe.

QF431 4 December Sydney to Melbourne

3 options for this mid morning service (pushback 0933), I chose the scones with jam and cream. Just a clear apple juice to accompany after a good strong long black in the SYD dom Business Lounge.

The same plane (and crew, a little shocked to see me!) is turning around as QF878 to the Gold Coast - after 4 mini breakfasts today, we'll see if I can be tempted 😉
Addendum: I shouldn't have. 😔

QF878 4th December Melbourne to Gold Coast
My last BC meal for this trip.
Service was appropriately timed and paced for the 2ish hour duration of the flight. Top ups were regularly offered for those partaking.

Feta, rocket and tomato on toast.
Hmm, what to say nice? Well, the feta and lemon were good, and it is plated appealingly. Let down by the lone piece of gazpacho-ready roasted tomato, with toast that was really unconstructed breadcrumbs - I'd give it a crumb factor of 8/10. Not enjoyable to work through - this is one I wouldn't bother with again.

Has the order which the meal orders are taken changed with this service as well? I've recalled for ages that the FA's would dance around the cabin taking orders, I believe based on status or maybe PCV? It seemed more like row by row from my last two flights.

I also didn't receive a CSM greeting on both of them which is somewhat rare for QF.

All of my recent flights have had methodical meal order-taking. Most start at 1A and follow the obvious pattern, although one did start at 1F and maintained that pattern for all 3 rows.

Domestic or international?
For domestic I’ve never seen deviate from 1A to 3F in order.

Tbf that’s usually how the status falls naturally

Last week 3 out of 4 sectors were served 1A to 3F which is what I usually see, but on the last one they served someone in 1F first and then resumed 1A to 3F from there. They might've been particularly VIP..

I don't recall seeing it deviate otherwise though - VA is always different.

QF79 26/11. Didn't get a photo of the bento box starter, usual stuff but it had some terribly dry chicken in there too. Actually regret the Japanese choice this time as the beef was fairly average. Prawn dish later in the flight was decent enough though.

QF80 2/12 - I went for the western style this time, no regrets after seeing someone elses Japanese offering which looked quite sad. Everything pretty decent, the old leaves are still there in the new menu.. old mate must have one hell of a contract on leaf production.

QF41 SYD-CGK
Pressure was on given NP himself was in the house pre flight to officially launch the QF F lounge “Summer Menu”.

Meanwhile onboard.

Boozy marg and nuts. What could possibly go wrong.

Dumplings - quite good

Now, I’m not a huge salad fan at the best of times, but a basic garden salad - in moderation is fine. And that’s what you get. I’m not sure what the angst is over it is about. You don’t have to eat it. Yes, a Caesar or something different from time to time might shake things up…

Beef. I knew better and asked if it would be overcooked. It was.

Panna - tasty

The pre-arrival noodles were particularly good texturally. If not visually pleasing at first pass. Can’t believe they would have been frozen in time at some point!

For me, the angst is that it’s so unimaginative and unchanging. You have this so-called celebrity chef on a premium airline in business class and you get something that might be poured out of a bag from Coles or Woolies.

Calling it ‘Neil’s leaves’ is really just talking to pi**

Agree, though technically his name is only attached to the dressing @RooFlyer "Neil's" vinaigrette 🤭
Several years ago flying to JNB (upper deck, 744), I was engrossed in a film during the meal service and didn’t hear the FA asking me something. SYD+1 nudge me and yelled, “Do you want dressing on your Niel Perry inspired salad?”. The FA nearly had a conniption trying not to laugh.
