Qantas Business Class meals & menus

I've seen (and benefited from, in various seats) several instances in recent weeks of orders and/or service not being straight 1A to 3F. 1C is my preferred seat and 1A often ends up being a staff traveler which skews things a bit.

Just to continue the inconsistency in timings and product - this week:

CBR-SYD - 17:50, 50 minute flight:

Also beef ragu. Bread and chocolate offered. I thought this was very tasty, with tender meat. Excellent (albeit rushed) service.

Then SYD-HBA 19:30 (1hr 50m flight) "refreshment" service - chicken pie or cheese plate.

To be fair the chicken and mushroom pie was tasty. Excellent service from Ivan. But ridiculous for a 19:30 flight. Economy pax got cheese and crackers both flights.

I cannot get over the trays on the long-haul flights.

Nor will I ever call a pile of leaves a "salad." But their existence is what single-handedly pulls Qantas' overall consistency up, so at least we have that (except of course when having breakfa--pardon, "brunch" at 1pm).

That said, some of the new dishes look to be an improvement, notwithstanding the rather odd timing of when they're served and on what routes.

And that menu font fail was definitely just an oops.

Same dishes as what I had on QF127 that I posted on the previous page and pretty much the same conclusions also!
Except the plating of the noodles looks slightly better rather than jammed into a rice bowl. However, that seems to be the thing on QF41. The pre-arrival nibble often comes in a bowl not on a plate…🤷‍♂️

Actually, I tell a lie. there was a small bottle of Lois on the trolly (just one) - reinforcing to me that it was a breakfast service at 12:30pm.
I omitted in my post #7417, the CSM called my Ragu and the Chook salad "brunch"......9.45 am @RooFlyer - now avo on toast I can understand!

Why is it so hard to get the meal TIMES right and base it on the time you will be eating!?

QF97 BNE-MNL 30/11/24

This flight included the new tray service which had its ups and downs. Major plus is that you can move your tray out of the way (to the console next to you) between courses and head to the bathroom if need be, down side is that its obviously less pretty and a much smaller surface space but seeing as Qantas uses tiny dishes I don't think that a major upset.

As our flight sat at the gate for about an hour longer than expected the crew had plenty of time to take orders including what drink we wanted after take off. I note that crew went through the cabin front to back without prioritising status members like they have in the past.

About 30 minutes after pushback crew came round with the aperitivo, I ordered the margarita and nuts, they did not scrimp on the booze with this one oh boy did I sleep well after this.

20 minutes later the trolley came down the isle, and we were delivered the new tray which included cutlery and Neils famous leaves & dressing which seemed to be a cheap $3 woolies mix today, as well as a single slice of focaccia. Drinks were also offered and after my heavy marg I decided to hydrate. 5/10

To start I had the Moroccan carrot soup with spicy harissa chickpeas which was yum and importantly nice and warm. 8/10

For my main I had the Vegetable randang with fragrant rice, cashews and spicy pickles. I have to say this was a really good vegan option even for those of us who do eat meat, nicely spiced with a good amount of tang from the pickles. 8/10

And finally I had the Coratina extra virgin olive oil panna cotta, while I love a panna cotta I don't think the olive oil works with this one so i would give this one a 5/10.

Overall a 7/10 for me.

Seeing as this flight lands in Manila at 1am the crew let us sleep till about 40 minutes out and while they offered me the pre-landing snack as I made my way to the loo to get changed (which i politely declined) they remarked that no one ever actually takes them up on the offer. So that makes me wonder how much food is getting wasted on this flight and could qantas maybe instead invest this in a nicer lettuce mix.
The tray really does look quite ordinary. I can’t help but think that even if they’d used a lighter coloured model; white, beige or a light grey, it may have looked a little less like chow time at Wentworth 🙃

I’m doing this flt in a few weeks, somehow I feel somewhat underwhelmed by this offering

Gosh, that looks familiar

QF295. SYD-BKK

Dumplings

Veg rendang

Pumpkin fritters

I meant to go all veg and start with a carrot soup just to see how the other half lived. They can have it. The veg rendang didn’t have much flavour and was presented pretty badly.

Exactly same menu as BNE-SIN Friday ... so same menu for SIN/CGK/HKG so far. Eesh!

QF4 AKL-SYD 29/11/24

Ordered the egg, spinach and haloumi roll. Tray comes out with the juice and croissant, with the promise of the 'hot meal' on the way. I know QF is slow so waited half an hour, before finally deciding to ask where my meal is. Get advised there's been an error and I've been "forgotten" (despite having order taken very early as a WP and sitting in 1K on the 787). Ended up having the muesli instead (didn't photograph it) but only ate about half as I was quite annoyed at that point and had lost my appetite. CSM did offer 3,000 points as compensation, which I accepted (not really necessary - mistakes happen!).

Ordered the braised lamb shoulder. Taste was decent enough, though initially was a bit wary given the amount of oil oozing !! Cheese plate to finish

Really cannot overstate just how cheap and nasty the tray service looks. Honestly did not feel as if the service was any quicker with trays. Really hope they reverse this change but I'm not holding my breath.

Last week on MEL-BNE had the beef Ragu. it looked absolutely terrible (the pic posted earlier looks far superior to what I got). Having said that, it was very tasty. Sticky Date Pudding included. I guess as a nod for Christmas.

on retun had a mixed drink for first time in ages, and forgot they were doing the "make your own" thing. I can't decide if it's a good or bad thing. On the one hand, you can pick just what mix you want of spirit and mixer, but OTOH, all the bits and bobs of can of drink, bottle of spirit, glass etc took up the whole tray which was a bit of a pain, and sometimes I just like a drink made for me (total FWP for sure!).

anyway uneventful flights with pretty good service.

QF169 MEL -> CHC. I can't remember specifically what it was but looks like chicken curry of sorts, was OK from memory. I do like the little salad with the meat though, good to put that meat on crackers after.

QF170 CHC -> MEL. Rolled the dice and went for some kind of beef covered in pesto (I think) which was actually real good. Ended up smushing the tomato on the bread and putting the veges under the little meat in the salad in with the whole lot and had a little roast.

I had this option WLG-BNE last week and it was good !
Partner had the Chicken and Ceasar salad main and liked it and noted that , for a change , there was more chicken than lettuce ( maybe NP away for the day?)
