Qantas Business Class meals & menus

For first time ever I'm going to lodge a complain about tonight's flight service as similar situation. Too much chatter with row 1 and then a further delay caused by whinging kids in J not liking any options so a need for FA to go and grab pies from whY meant row 3 got about 5 mins to eat. Trays confiscated so quickly I only just managed to rescue the cake.

One positive and I will give a shout out in my complaint was that CSM asked me for my preference first and reserved it so i wouldnt miss out on my first choice as I was bumped back to row 3 (unfortunately wasn't served first).

Options were salmon salad (yuck) or curry chicken. The curry wasn't as nice as others served recently, but they did remember to load the butter this flight.

Landing was then subsequently delayed and we have been stuck in a very bumpy holding pattern for ages.
We had a similar experience on our recent MEL-SYD flight. By the time the CSM had finished chatting to the person on staff travel in row 1, row 3 did not get much time to eat. Fortunately we were in row 2 so had a bit more time.

I try to avoid row 3 on the 737 where possible. Usually if I am flying J on that it’s doing a status run where I have booked J so I can usually achieve this.

I want sufficient time to eat during the flight and the full range of meal choices. I don’t often fly J so the novelty hasn’t worn off.

Well I selected 2C when I booked 11 months earlier, it was a paid seat not an award. But seat was changed at boarding.

If row 3 is all that is available I book a different flight given MEL-SYD flights are every 15-30mins.

Most annoying cause pax who displaced me was only PS, they should have moved the SG in 3A to 2A and put the couple who didn't plan ahead in 3A and 3C.

I did 6 x 737 flights over the weekend and had 2C (and plenty of time to eat) on all but the last.

MEL/BNE
“Flow forward -weather” even though it was fine and sunny at both ports.

I had the salad today, it was really good.
Total opposite to your flight.
CSM chatted with each passenger but timed it well.
Meals and drinks were served, then he returned to finish the chats whilst offering top ups.
Excellent service like the good old days.

Also seen & experienced this a number of times on DOM J flights over the last couple of years. I don’t often eat on domestic flights (even in J), so doesn’t bother me that much, but there needs to be clear direction around the meal service taking priority, and then if crew wish to come back to people once all that seek that meal service have been served, then go for it.

1A won’t begrudge the crew for saying they’ll come back after everyone’s sorted and catch up / continue their chat… but 3F sure as hell will begrudge the crew for leaving them with only a fraction of the time to eat their only choice of meal for a sector.

Cheers,
Matt.

Qantas Link plane, not Alliance. I was in 2A. I think there was a salmon salad, but everyone in row 3 ordered it, so my option was a Beef curry or the sandwich from Y.

Curry was tasty, I didn’t bother with bread.
Cheesecake was nice.

QF173 MEL-WLG, dinner time

In 1C served after partner in 1A, no status. Options were chicken salad with miso sauce, roast pork and I forget the third one.

I had the chicken, partner had the pork. I like the concept of the chicken but the rice salad was pretty gluggy and the chicken was quite dry, sauce was good. Partner had pork, flavours weren’t for me, something not quite right about it, but was a decent serve of meat.

The chicken:

IME on 737 flights J is always served front to back, generally starting with 1A (although have seen it start in 1F). Whereas on international flights with larger planes (789 or A380) status usually comes into play.
