Qantas cancelled business seat -what compensation is reasonable

Qantas is not a travel agent vis a vis Flight Centre.

They are the Marketing/Ticketing Carrier.

This implies a higher burden of responsibility / control over the booking than - say - Flight Centre (as simply an agent) would.

Absolutely QF's responsibility to sort out.

Which law applies here I wonder ? EU or 'Qantas law' ? (I don't think there is an Australian equivalent of the EU law on this issue). If the metal is BA's, does that make it EU, even though flight was from outside Europe, ticket may have been QF codeshare not BA flight number, etc, etc ??

EU 261/2004 applies to:

The flights of any European Carrier (including those of BA).
The flights of any carrier operating from an EU port.

Thanks everyone for the great ideas.. I will take up with qantas. Unfortunately when we arrived on saturday in uk my husband got sick and has been in hospital since. British health has been fantastic.. Better than qantas service. Will update on qantas response.
