Qantas Car Insurance

For me, the monthly premium was only $35 more than my NRMA cover, so I signed up and collected the 40,000 Qantas points before cancelling it going back to NRMA. Having another vehicle for NRMA meant I kept the loyalty bonus so I was not penalised for leaving for a bit. $70 for 40,000 points - good deal.

Luckily I didn't need to make any claims in that period so I can't speak for their claims progress

I noted your post back in June and am pleased to see this follow up. Thanks! I will also do this as the 40k is too good to miss. I have loyalty with NRMA as well and multiple policies. We live in a regional area, won't do much driving in the next 2 months and so any risk is pretty low.

Edited to add.. Changed my mind.

Swapped my car and home insurance to Qantas earlier this year to get the bonus points. Literally the day after I reversed my car out of the garage before the garage door had fully opened and damaged both the garage door and car! Claimed for a new garage door on the Qantas home insurance. Found them okay to deal with but a bit backwards in their processes, for example you have to email (or send through the post) photos of the damage, they don’t have an App or portal which other insurance companies have.
Didn’t bother claiming for the car as the excess wasn’t much less than the damage. So probably wouldn’t recommend Qantas insurance unless you can get the bonus points and premium isn’t more than other insurance companies.

My QF car insurance premium recently went up about 10% YoY (having signed up last year for some bonus points).

Called them to say I'd found a better deal, they matched last year's price...

They also offered a ~$20/year discount for having a dashcam which wasn't a question they asked last year.

I also just called and they didn't offer any incentive to stay at all, even though I would have happily taken some points.

The dashcam thing is something I've noticed on all the insurers that go through Auto & General. On online quotes, it's under "non-factory fitted accessories".
