We're travelling to the USA next year. I would appreciate views from others which of Qantas, Cathay, or Emirates. We are thinking of travelling Business Class. It would be great to hear your views. Maybe premium economy would be an option.

Welcome to forum

Where are you based and what is your USA destination?
Emirates is long diversion from the Aust east coast. Cathay less so
Emirates do not have premium economy

Are you a member of any freq flyer program ?

If J I would go CX. As you Don't have to have LAX as your entry point.

I try to fly QF when I can but it's a bit hard now living on the west coast.

We are based in Perth our destination is Los Angeles and we would be departing from either Washington or New York. We are members of Qantas freq flyer

I was about to suggest QR but alas they don't fly to LAX (unless they announce it as a new destination next year)... Or MH but they have pulled out of NYC.

Cathay Pacific would work well for you. This will allow you to fly from Perth - Hong Kong - Los Angeles with a single (short) stopover. The best return leg with Cathay would be New York - Hong Kong - Perth. The J product in Cathay is very good, so you won't be disappointed. Plus you will have access to the excellent Cathay lounges in Hong Kong.

As a member of Qantas Frequent Flyer, do you have any status (ie Silver, Gold, Platinum) or are you Bronze?

You may be best look for a PER-LAX return and a NYC/WAS - LAX one way.
Also worth considering SFO in lieu in LAX and LAX-SFO
Being in Perth EK may not be much of a diversion. Similarly for an Asian carrier
At times it can be better to in a J seat than arrive/depart at an unsocial time of the day(night)

Would recommend Cathay as well. Their J class is awesome as well as the lounges in Hong Kong.

And the winner of Aerovision is... CX! (sorry watching Eurovision on TV now and couldn't help it)

which is cheapest? this has to be balanced with value too

I would go Cathay. One stop to LA via Hong Kong ( you miss the domestic QF leg Perth-Sydney). Cathay also offer non stop from NYC to Hong Kong so only one stop home as well!

Agree, Cathay is definitely the best carrier and routing.

You said price is a consideration so...........
If you're not concerned with routing and are prepared to go through Sydney, I like to fly with Hawaiian through Honolulu. I usually break the trip with a couple of days in Honolulu (yes I know it's just the Gold Coast with fatter people) one way or the other. Their business class is nowhere near that of CX or QF, but it's reasonable enough and at 6' tall I'm comfortable enough in it. You can fly from HNL to LAX if you like, and then US domestic across the continent. I used Jet Blue last time I was there and they were cheap cheap cheap and came and went on time.
Just my 2c worth for a left-field option.
Cheers,

Consider HNL on QF in Y seats 35 j/k second row exit, so much room tray has 3 positions, save a bundle too, from there can miss LAX if you want, fares are cheap to mainland USA. Failing that its CX great airline.
