According to www.airfleets.net, QF still has six Boeing 737-400 planes of which two date from 31 October 1993: almost 20 years old.
Perhaps QF is retiring one of these with its newest delivery, but overall (including planes used internationally), QF does not have a particularly modern fleet, thanks to a particular previous CEO's aversion to purchasing Boeing 777-300ERs that have proven successful for a number of Asian airlines.
Every time I fly on one of PR's five B773s, I think of that particular gentleman and why he declined to match what his Asian competitors such as SQ were doing. Perhaps it wasn't just his Board: presumably 'he knew best' (despite QF not now having paid a dividend for four of five years).
