Per the AFF podcast, today is merely the hundredth anniversary of the registration of the business name.
The first flight of the Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Service wasn’t until 1921.

"Official" history says

"

1920

Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services Ltd (Q.A.N.T.A.S) formed at Winton, Queensland with two aircraft on 16 November. Joy-flights and charter work are the mainstays of the business. Grazier Fergus McMaster provides vital guidance and becomes the first Chairman.

"

So maybe the first "flight" was on Nov 16, 1920.

Depends on how one defines "first flight" of the entity "Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services Ltd " I expect.

And from wiki

" On 2 November 1922, eighty-four-year-old outback pioneer Alexander Kennedy became the first passenger on the first scheduled service (piloted by Hudson Fysh) receiving ticket number one for a flight from Longreach to Cloncurry.[3] "

Is this from Wikipedia? No flight took place on 16 November 1920 as the first Qantas plane was not delivered until January 1921. ;)

Qantas was also not formed at Winton on this date - the registration on 16 November happened in Brisbane, and the Winton Club was the site of the first Qantas board meeting in February 1921.

Interesting!

Top was from Our history | Qantas AU. Bottom was from Wiki.

The history seems a bit vague on when the aircraft were delivered.

edit:

This one dated October 16, 1920 says

"It is to begin operations early next month with two three-seater machines, and a large machine carrying four passengers with a comfortable cabin will be on service by the end of the year."

Anyone flew today? Was there anything special at the lounge and/or onboard?

Going off my socials:
Big cake made by Neil Perry. Whilst the cake did have candles, due to Covid they weren't lit.
Crew dressed in various uniforms from the last 100 years.
Looks like Hugh Sheridan was the guest host.
Champagne pyramid in the lounge (10 glasses high).

My FB page reminded me I had been at Qantas celebration for their 95th birthday and up popped a picture of me with Alan Joyce 😂

Anyone do any shopping on the store? I got the Limited Edition Centenary Pack for myself and the Business Class At Home kit for a family member (discounted this afternoon to $100).

Dare I say, QF in it's 100th year has charter (WA mining) and joyflights to nowhere as a serious form of revenue.

Glad they are making it through 2020!.
