Qantas Chairmans Lounge

My MD was invited to join the CL. Our company's gift policy though is very strict (top 50 multinational) so he painfully declined. We joke about it every time we sit in the domestic business lounges!

What's the difference from taking the SG/WP membership though. Both are related to flying on the company dime.

I do not think so though: CL invitation is not believed to be correlated to flying patterns. And SG/WP membership is merely the automatic result of flying with a carrier (and not a targeted offer to a specific person for commercial influence).

CL is related to overall company spend, yes targeted at persons of influence (ie CEO) but plenty of things the individual could decide to video conference or

Correct. There can be a Bronze CL member who does bugger all flying vs CLPO's (there was one on AFF I believe?)
I, for one, am glad that P1's tend to outrank CL's for upgrades and the like for this very reason. Bum in Seat time needs to count for something!

The QP in Hobart is a disgrace for a capital city. It really is a shock that it is so poor compared to even some non-capital QP lounges the first time you go there.

Hopefully they improve that eventually and perhaps do a CL as well. I'd like a domestic J lounge in HBA (as that's the best I could expect to ever access) but I think that's highly unlikely.

And that's the big difference between accepting or not one (SG/WP) is a consequence of you flying and available to everyone whereas CL is directly trying to get you to change your companies expenditure or in the case of MPs get QF better policy outcomes from Government.

Obviously SG/WP can and does influence the individual PAX which is why companies have best fare of the Day policies. If an individual is following that and gets membership then there is in theory no negative impact of the business (although indirectly fares cover these benefits).

CL must influence the company or organisations operations for it to be valuable for QF to offer that's why it's hard to understand how company officers and definitely senior government representatives can accept in the best interest of their employer.

Don't get me wrong I'd accept CL! Not sure it's great for a shareholder however.

Problem with Hobart is you use the lounge more than you expect, too ... because everything's always late getting-to & hence leaving Hobart!

Many years have gone by and Qantas have only been able to make minor improvements to the Hobart Qantas Club. Virgin haven't even been able to build a Lounge. With the ramping up of tourism in Tasmania, and with new hotels being built the need for airport extension and larger lounges is becoming more pressing. It would seem that the owners of the airport are dragging the chain in all these matters. The necessity for Hobart is an enlarged Qantas Club. The chances of getting a Business Lounge are very low, and the chances of a Chairmans Lounge, zero.

I think the problem with HBA is that the airport refuses to build the terminal space for QF or VA to have adequate facilities

I've been to the old BNE lounge twice, and it is very nice.

However I don't agree that the QC is removing features while the CL is gaining them. They're staying about the same, just many people have never seen inside a CL, so when they do they get a shock! BNE domestic is currently going through a big upgrade of the Qantas lounges and the new BNE international QC is very nice!

Why would Qantas want two bit nobody senators in the CL in the first place is beyond me?

Based on his behaviour in the lounge I'm surprised he lasted this long then. I thought the unwritten rules were very clear, it's meant to be a sanctuary not somewhere you can stalk victims!

You never know when you will need that last critical vote in parliament.

Our friend is C Club. Guess being CEO of a Bank (not a big 4) does that for you.

A few of us lucky AFF'ers were invited in a couple of years ago.
It's nice but it's just another lounge? It was quiet when we were in there and it is spacious. Most food/beverages are still self serve.

Yep. Agree with that. But it's the space that's nice. Although if you had a rabid politician raving in your space it would be very unpleasant.

Being involved with a discussion involving two serial Platinum One achievers today, they were saying they'd actually prefer self-serve rather than 'the help' having to get things, because when they're travelling they often just want to grab a quick bite & something to eat & sit down to eat it for 15 minutes, rather than losing all the time they have waiting in a queue or waiting for 'the help' to deliver the food/drink.
