No lounge access for Gold flying economy. "Qantas only buy seat" according to the lounge ladies

This was at Taipei? Ex Australia you would have access to the Qantas club/business lounge provided you were on the QF flight number.

Sorry, yes ex-Taipei.

In more detail ...

- no ability to select seat via web-site. Only offered ability to enter on-line preference for window or aisle, which results in an error box on the Qantas seat select
- the Qantas mobile app in giving distance to Taipei airport gives distance to the inner-city airport, not the actual airport. So shows 4km instead of 40+km.
- no signage at airport indicating if any priority check-in available
- no lounge access
- no priority boarding
- no seat shadow
- no greeting

So as the lounge lady (they are too nice and polite to be called dragons) says when denying access, "Qantas only buy seat", it would be nice to have some of those other little things.

This happens on some code-shares. Learned my lesson the hard way many years ago on a QF flight number operated by Jet Airways - no priority check, lounges or other benefits.

about to do this again ex-Taipei 1 year later. Qantas web-site still gives error when trying to enter on-line preference for window or aisle...

and to confirm one year later experience pretty much the same. "Qantas buy seat only" still the phrase.

There is a new train service and you can check in at the China Airlines check-in counters at the train station in downtown Taipei, and not have to worry about your bags which is good.

There is free wi-fi throughout the airport and a nice quiet library area to sit down.

So the only thing missing that is important to me is ability to select seat. As it was because checked in early at the train station, the agent was able to shuffle me into an emergency exit row.
