Well this is a new one for me...

I booked a Classic Reward ticket on the Qantas website for a flight on Finnair (a simple domestic flight in Finland).

The points were deducted from my QFF account and my credit card charged the amount quoted on the Qantas website, but no ticket arrived.

Eventually I called Qantas, and they informed me the ticketing failed because the amount of taxes & charges that I should have paid did not match what I was actually charged. As it happens, the amount I was apparently supposed to pay was around $11 less.

After a while on hold, the call centre operator asked me to provide my credit card details again, charged me the "correct" (lower) amount and refunded the previous credit card payment. Ticket came through 5-10 minutes later.

If I hadn't followed this up with Qantas, it would never have been ticketed and Finnair would have cancelled the reservation after a certain amount of time had passed, likely without me knowing.

Keep an eye on your reward bookings, folks!

Helpful insight Matt, thanks.

It’s lucky the average punter with no clue about ticketing will know that a booking reference isn’t sufficient and will check for a valid eticket, and if not received to then use their Platinum status to speak with Hobart and have the ticket reissued before flying. Phew!
