Hi Matt,

Qantas have mentioned as part of their mea culpa that they are going to release more reward seats. Do we have any idea when or on which routes?

Thanks,

Paul

An email from QF was sent yesterday:

We've added more Economy Classic Flight Reward seats to dream destinations so your Qantas Points can make your next trip possible.

Start your next adventure in the USA, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Korea, New Zealand or the Pacific Islands with Classic Flight Reward seats available on every eligible flight, for travel between 1 February 2024 and 21 June 2024. Hurry, book by 11.59pm Thursday 28 September, unless sold out prior.*

I also have this question, and have been trying to find out these last few days, but it looks like I'm too late. Blink and you miss it.

Economy reward seats.
Reward seats no one wants.
Economy fares are (relatively) affordable.
It's the business and first reward seats we are waiting for.

There was a time when Qantas and their partner airlines used to release flights a certain number of days prior to travel, and that was set in stone (usually around the 10-12 month period - although the number of days varied based on your status level for Qantas flights).

Now it appears that they simply throw them out in batches pretty much whenever they feel like it (or whenever they have a dire need for some positive PR).

This makes planning travel hard.

To make matters worse, hardly any airline seems to be offering flight rewards via QFF for long haul international business class. JAL, Cathay & Qatar all seem to offer nothing to/from Australia, while still offering a range of reward options within East Asia, with a small amount of onward services to Europe/USA. Finnair seem to offer nothing to East Asia but plenty in their Euro heartland. BA still appear to offer a little bit but it's getting harder and harder to find. While there are some non-OW partners trying to make an effort, business rewards to/from Australia are getting to be like needles in a haystack!

Looks like it's time for Qantas to state that it's running a Ponzi scheme and not a loyalty program.

Instead of opening a new thread, does anyone know what time QFF seats become available 353 days out?

eg I want to fly from LHR to SYD on business on Mon 14 Oct 24, to have my best chance, do i log on at 10 or 11am tmrw morn for award seat release? Or is it midnight?

This article states 11am, not sure if still accurate.

ps I messaged the bot but it is uneducated and needs to be fired.

Thanks

What QF status do you have? Gold and above have a preferred window for accessing Classic Reward (CR) seats (if any). Below SG and your chances are poor unless QF does a bulk release of reward seats.

Also, the pre-Covid habit of releasing CR seats 353 odd days out at midnight GMT (10am QLD time) for now have gone the way of the Dodo….😔

Ignoring the above responses (which are accurate), IME the time seats are released is 11am AEDT or 10am AEST.

Fwiw, I tried this morn w multiple devices from lax, Sfo and yvr to syd at 11am this morn on Monday 14th Oct 24. No qantas J seats opened up at 11am vs 10.55am.

So perhaps it’s true.

Unfortunately so but many here will be interested to know if you do see certain dates where seats get released to the old pattern.

What’s really stuffed is even the lack of whY CR seats opening 355 days out on many (or most?) international routes. That must make it infuriating for peeps with kids trying to plan hols etc.

I think things are pretty variable at the moment.

In the middle of the year I picked up 3x J for SYD-NAN-YVR on FJ at 10am at 353 days. For some reason no return flights from YVR ever opened up on FJ (or QF).

About a month later I got 3x J for LAX-SYD on QF12 at 10am at 353 days (although from memory in the days leading up to it they did not release J seats on maybe the Thursday or Friday QF12 flights, but we ended up getting our seats for Wed the following week.

(This was using my wife's Gold account, not my NB.)

Has anyone been tracking batch seat releases over the past year? Really keen on seeing some J rewards being made available to USA sometime in the coming months for mid-late 2025...

Didn't even see anything for the new routes/ flights launched with the annual results.

They've pretty much ended since the introduction of Classic+.

There are some QFi routes that are still on a small batch release for far out dates (rather than the good ‘ol days of daily release). You might see half a month land and then the second half 2-3 wks later.

is there any kind of pattern to the drops? or is it actually random

essentially, ex melbourne, the only classic reward "premium" (if they merit that description) are on Jetstar the current equivalent of Freddy Lakers airline or Dan air who have left me stranded more than once. time to give up on QFF?

Furthermore, for the person looking for flights to the US, Qantas currently has no seats in business class on a Qantas flight from any Australian port to any North American port for the entire calendar.

There's 3 seats in the opposite direction.
