Qantas Club Member's Guest Passes

Further to this, SWMBO pulled out some member's guest passes, last night when I was negotiating to get mum's PS QC invitation.

One of them is the old card style white Guest pass, from before the little paper booklets with tear off passes. I only mention this because of the conditions listed on the back:

Guest Pass said:
This card is not transferable and remains the property of Qantas Airways Limited. Use of this card is governed by the conditions specified when issued.

There is no expiry date. Which gets me wondering what were the conditions when the card was issued. I don't seem to have a copy of the T&C, but I do have a letter welcoming me to the QC and stating that my 10 Guest passes are for me to use whenever I wish to bring in a guest.

I notice the current T&C limit me to one guest. But that same limitation would not be in the conditions when the card was issued. I also found the letter when the guest passes were removed and all that says is that guest passes are not longer required, it does not invalidate existing passes.

Do you think they'd let me bring in my 1 guest under current conditions and then use my only old guest pass to bring in another guest under the old conditions? Or would I have to have 2 old guest passes. ;)

Not that I'm going to use the pass (will steal mum's invitation), just interested in opinions and also if anyone has the old T&C for this type of pass.

The terms and conditions would have allowed for the terms and conditions to be changed with notice ; the T&Cs were changed to invalidate them

I cannot see that you would have any success arguing that they are valid

The T&C mayb have allow themselves to be changed but the pass clear states that the use is governed by the conditions when issued. Any subsequent conditions are not the conditions when issued.

I also can't find anywhere that the changes at the time of removing the guest passes invalidated the existing guest pass. The letter I have has the new conditions saying something like "Guest passes are no longer required" and then applying the existing guest limitations. That doesn't actually invalidate the existing passes, it just says you don't need them anymore.

OTOH The current limitation of 1 guest per member would suggest that the pass is useless because 1 guest is the limit and no more shall enter. In which case I'd need 2 guest passes properly invoke the old conditions.

Anyway, I still say it was stupidity to remove the guest passes. In fact, there is a source of overcrowding. Everyone gets 1 guest per visit with no upper limit. This is painful if travelling with more then 1. Whereas before it was 10 guests per year, so an effective limit and also useful if travelling with more than 1 person.
