My brother in law just showed me his account. He was Gold staus (not a paid member of the Qantas club) and has just been downgraded to Silver, but not Silver FF rather something called Qantas Club Silver Member. Must say this has me stumped, what is that? Is this something new? He does have lifetime Silver status. Does this mean he has Qantas club access still...I assume so given the title of the membership...oh yes he has no paperwork from Qantas to explain anything. (know that feeling)

When someone loses SG, their QP access remains for a period of at least one month.

This may be to enable such members time to consider paying for the QP - I believe there is no "Joining Fee" assessed if they do.

Was he previously a paid Qantas Club member? When he first became gold if his paid membership would of been held for the remaining months paid. These would now be active again. Did his summary page have an expiry date for Qantas Club membership?

Qantas generally provides Qantas Club membership for a short period of time (was 3 months, not sure if it still is) following a downgrade from Gold to Silver. This is to allow the member time to take up the option of a paid Qantas Club membership renewal without having to pay the joining fee. He should receive a letter explaining the situation.

Nope...his summary shows Qantas club membership now through to October, even though his status re-assessment is December and his paid club membership from years ago was a December expiry too. Hmm...this is an odd one.

Sounds like some unexpired months in his club membership that were put on hold when he became gold.

You could be right even though it doesn't seem to quite add up, he is going to ring Qantas sometime to work it out. Given some of my recent experiences with the QFF program I wish him luck. Fortunately I have better things to do than gripe about loyalty programs :D Complaining about QFF would be a lifelong mission if you took it on :!:

If I had just dropped to a non-QP level and was seeing QP access when I didn’t think I should be seeing it, I wouldn’t be rushing to inform Qantas and ask why ;)

That would just suggest that he got to gold status in about late February/early march. Hence using 2 months of his paid QP membership (assuming he had paid membership) with remaining 10 months put on hold. The remainder now kicking in after the December reassessment date when dropping to silver.

When is original QP membership was due to expire isn't relevant. As soon as you become Gold, the remaining period of the membership is put "on hold". This then becomes available for use as soon as one drops back to Silver.

So, if Gold was attained 4 months into the QP membership year, then 8 months would be left. When one drops back to Silver, 8 months of QP membership will become available.

HTH

Does anyone know when they base the date off for how much time you have remaining? Such as, if you attained Gold at the start of the month compared to the end of the month, would the month still be kept, or is that month lost?

This is something I have been wondering about. My status re-assessment is coming up and they will be dropping me from Gold back to Silver...... I started a new job 5 years ago and they signed us all up for Qantas Club at the time - even though I was already Gold...... so will the Qantas Club membership kick in when I drop back down??!!!

That would be weird especially since I already left the job that paid for it initially!!

I have been gold for over 10 years, and this year I am 10 status credits shy of renewing and they decided not to extend me (despite having pre-booked business travel in the next few months). I had to laugh when they sent me the email saying sorry they wont renew it....... in a strange way now I feel free to travel with the airline I really want to travel with - not the one that has kept me coming back with 'status' lures.

I stopped going to the lounges years ago as they are mostly like overcrowded bus stops with a bar! To be honest I will miss access to preferred seating, etc, but I'm sure I'll cope. As for priority baggage - well I would also miss that... if it were true? Anyone who flys Qantas business regularly knows thats a complete myth! Just a pretty coloured tag....

They truly are idiots, and personally I"m looking forward to my new found freedom of choice... bring on the EK flights with limosine pickup!

Sorry for the rant.. yes I'm peeved. But I'm already skywards silver and it wont take me long to rack that up - for considerably better rewards. I only initially stayed with QF to use the points for flights for my family so they are the ones who will ultimately suffer from my change of airline preference.

emwagner,

Welcome to AFF.

If you had QC membership before you made gold then that and your recent paid membership will kick in when you drop from gold. If you ever make gold again it simply goes into hold until you drop again.

Actually, 2 times Mrs. munitalP has fallen off partner Gold, QF have given her a 2 or 3 month QP membership. I think it is part of the soft landing and as mentioned before, an enticer to purchase a QP membership. Mrs munitalP has never had a QP membership FWIW

I've been gold since before I even knew there was such a thing as qantas club. However, when I changed jobs 5 years ago, the employer I was joining paid up for a 2 year qantas club membership. I figured that it would just run concurrently and would have expired (waste of money for the silly employer) but others have told me that it may just be on hold.

Surely after 5 years they would not continue to hold it... Its a silly situation anyway - who would pay for qantas club if they already had access? I would have said something but didn't really know what it was all about until after the new job had paid up.

Doesnt matter anyway, but I am curious!

Welcome to AFF!

If you are only 10 SCs short of requalifying Gold then why wouldn't you spend $150 on SYD-BNE return red e-deal before your reassessment date?

Interesting they paid Qantas Club membership even though you already had complimentary Qantas Club membership as a Gold.

Assuming the Qantas Club membership was paid then you will continue where you left off (or in case never started) and have Qantas Club membership for 2 years.

Not that Qantas Club membership will do much for you as if you did not like the lounges as a Gold then they are not going to be much better as Qantas Club member.
