Qantas "Comfort Row"

I see it as a negative for those with status, as Plats and often Golds often get a row to themselves on QF8. Further proof that QF doesn't care about rewarding status when they can monetise something instead - just like they did with exit rows / extra legroom seats.
as has been said before status people are the trailblazers. They show Qantas what is valued and then Qantas monetise it :). Wasn't there an article a few months ago that said Qantas was up there with the LCCs when it came to charging for things?

I saw a QF check-in agent in SCL last week trying to charge a QF Gold flyer US$25 to sit in the window seat of the exit row. I thought this seat was usually free as there's a giant door in the way taking up most of the legroom?

last time I checked, an empty/UNSOLD seat belongs to QANTAS, NOT an (entitled) F/F or ANY other pax, so QF can do what it sees fit with them. AND SHADOWS ARE NOT A RIGHT:shock:, and nice IF they happen.
That's my view..bye for now:)

Are they flames I feel approaching me!:lol::rolleyes:.

oh no - we know and love you after all these years. This board wouldn't be the same without your opposing point of view :)

Considering they are offering to sell a whole row, I fail to see how that will impact the statused since their row isn't going to be sold to someone else with them sitting there already. That means they also aren't going to be selling off shadows to the non-statused.

I can see how it might impact those with status. Firstly, status passenger may have previously been offered to move to a whole row free of charge. This now won't happen.

Secondly, with whole blocks of seats taken up, other passengers will be squeezed closer together - potentially losing the shadow or whole row for a platinum.

Example in point - couple of friends travelling Etihad last week were seated in window and middle seat. At check-in, the agent noted their VA gold status and moved each of them to a block of three seats in the middle. Under the QF charging concept, plats may not be moved like that to better seats.

I've seen nothing in thread to support any of those outcomes. It is merely assumption to say those things will no longer happen for platinum. Especially the idea that the concept of a "shadow" will disappear.

I can see it happening in theory. Say, there were 3 pax, 1x WP, 2x NB, and there are 2 rows of seats. WP already chose his seat. When NB #1 checks in, (s)he is placed in the 2nd row. If this pax didn't pay for the row, then NB #2 would be more likely to be placed in the same row as NB #1. However, if NB #1 paid for the whole row, then NB #2 would be placed in WP's row. So instead of the WP getting the whole row, now NB #1 gets the whole row instead for a couple of hundred dollars and the WP is no longer able to lie down across the row.

Do we think the A380 will still be on DFW-SYD in around 11 months (when I may be returning and AA may allow me to book Y as I am short of miles)? Would being an an AA tkt affect me maybe getting a comfort row?

I am guessing it's useless for Y+ as I found the armrests were solid and didn't go up or down! I tried to have a good look round but didn't notice any seats I the section with pull up arm rests. Did I miss something or is that standard for y+

I would expect the A380 to still be on DFW-SYD in 11 months, yes. There is a slight chance that the 787 could take over at some point, but at the moment I believe QF and EK have an agreement that only the A380 will operate this flight. (That's why you often see 747s replacing A380s on the SYD-LAX and MEL-LAX routes when an A380 goes out of service - but never on the DFW or LHR flights.)

That is correct - the armrests are fixed in premium economy on Qantas (the tray tables are stored inside them).
