I'm trying to cancel some domestic flights and use the voucher option - but the promised voucher button doesn't appear. Anyone know alt's happening?

It was working for me about about 40 minutes ago and was able to create more vouchers

You go to MMB, hit cancel and an option will come up to create a voucher or refund, you select the one you are after and hit continue.

Back when the DSC madness was on I posted step by step instructions on what to do. You can see the information Here

Thanks for the replies - am I not getting the voucher pop-up because they're Red e Deals fares?

That is odd, all the ones I cancelled and asked for a voucher yesterday and this morning were all Red-e-deals. The process is the same.

I'm considering cancelling our multi-country family trip in June/July 2020. There is currently a Do Not Travel advice on SmartTraveller for the USA. Is there any reason why I should cancel now rather than closer to the travel dates? My travel insurance does not exclude Virus/etc so I do have cover.

You have to not travel now, no choice.

But beware - I cancelled open of my domestic trips and did NOT get a voucher, just the usual cancellation charges.

LIke I said, I'm not travelling now - I'm travelling at end of June + July. My question stands. Is there a requirement to cancel flights immeidately or can I wait until closer to the fly time to see if this blows over?

Sorry I havn't been in a pandemic before.

Based on the QF website - cancellations must be processed by 31 March 2020 for flights until 31 May:

Since your flight is after 31 May, change and cancellation fees may apply:

But it does go on to state:
If you've booked your flights directly with us and are no longer able to travel based on travel restrictions for the countries in your itinerary, we'll assist you to make changes to your booking, removing any change or cancellation fees.

Now I'm not sure if "travel restrictions" include the current Level 4 advisory, so best to contact QF to clarify...

I was in similar situation, flying to Canada early June and home from USA early August. My understanding is you could wait a while before cancelling, maybe by then qantas will have pushed out the dates beyond May so you get the change fee waived. But for me, I just cancelled my flights tonight. The way I see it, this virus is going to be around for many months to come and there's a decent chance many of us will get it. I'd rather be in Australia than the USA if I get it, both in terms of medical treatment if needed, and also if I need to self isolate I'd prefer to be home rather than in some USA hotel room for 2 weeks. Figured I might as well cancel now and get my fees and charges and points refunded now (it was a J award booking). I'd rather my cash back now for the 6000 point change fee.

hi all, I know this is a qanats thread but some info on my good experience yesterday with Jetstar.

I used the online chat link sent out with cancelled domestic jetstar flights on sunday 29/3. This is different to the online assistant Jess, that I did not use at all.

within 5 minutes I had confirmation from a real chat operator that I would have refunds paid back to original method of payment. One booking within 7 days and another booking within 14 days. (not sure of why the difference, but have saved the chats)

The whole process took 5 minutes per booking.

They did offer flight vouchers, to which I politely declined and asked for a refund, indicating that Australian Consumer Law indicated refunds we also an option.

My friend who accepted a travel voucher credit for over $500 for jetstar domestic flights for 4 of us, did accept a travel voucher a few days ago, and they have said that their policy changed and now no refund is possible. only refunds were offered from 27th of march.

the 6 months to book and 12 months to travel is cough however.

I cancelled 3 PNRs 2 weeks ago. Just had 'chat' pop up, so asked where my refunds are.

"For cancelled flight refund please be advise we have a delay for refunds of points and credit. Due to recent travel restrictions we’ve been contacted by a number of customers wishing to change or cancel their booking, so some refunds/credits are taking longer to process than normal.

If you have not received your credit or refund within the next 21 days please to contact us again and we’ll follow up.

Does that mean 21 days from when I put it the cancellation ?

yes

Ok, so come back in one week from now and that will be 21 days. OK?

Yes. Please feel free to follow up but might be extended as well depends on the capacity of flights need to be processed. We ask for your patience as we endeavour to get through all of the requests received."

I have over 1M QFF points being refunded - 3 days so far - looks like I've got a big wait...

I've just received the first of my refunds with no charges and a small (A$20) profit on the exchange rate.
Cancelled by phone on 24/3, so 11 days.
Still waiting on an earlier one, cancelled online,19/3.

Three of my bookings Cancelled Online were refunded (points) in 4 days. The manually canceled two (1.1M points total) still No sign of the points...

How many days before you were due to depart was the cancellation done? I’m trying to work out if the date of cancellations close to departure are coming through quicker than those that are further into the future. Thanks

All the bookings were around the same time. I think the manual cancellations are slower though. Dates of departure were late June or early July. Multiple bookings as qantas wouldn’t honour their own fare rules.

An American motel chain refunded my booking (which was non-refundable) without even being asked last week. I made a $25 profits on the FX rate difference. Yay!
