So what happens with these aircraft? A lot of time spent on ground? They are NZ registered so are they allowed to work in the aus market with aus crews or will they just spend a lot more time parked??

There is 1 aviation market for Australia NZ airlines:- no restrictions for operations. IIRC some years ago Virgin Blue New Zealand operated a SYD MEL flight on Wednesday's about noon with NZ crew. Most NZ aircraft (QF, JQ, VA & Air NZ) a tend to return to NZ within ~60/90 minutes turnaround with the same crew. I think some Aust-Fiji flights (VA?) are by NZ aircraft (need to check). Very few overnight.

The nature of these changes don't surprise too much. If you look at the current JetConnect timetable, it is 8 aircraft operating the same 28 flights a day across the Tasman every day of the week. There is also wing-tip to wing-tip flying with the 8 Emirates flights a day. So if there is going to be change it is going to reflect the different levels of demand on different days of the week, and avoiding clashes with Emirates.

148/141 avoids a clash with Emirates
125/126 reflects less demand on certain days
however 156/153 is probably more about avoiding flying wingtip to wingtip with Jetstar!!

To avoid the Emirates clashes I'd like to have seen them try something like ...

AKL-SYD-ADL-SYD-AKL
CHC-SYD-PER-SYD-CHC
AKL-BNE-CNS-BNE-AKL

... operating from the international terminals. Not only would this give better NZ-ADL,PER and CNS options, it would also save a terminal transfer for other international connections for ADL,PER,CNS travellers.

As much as WPs and the like enjoy the opportunities tag flights present, they don't work and are not economical, which is why QF won't have any shortly. BNE CNS was one of the first to go, followed by SYD PER, even JQ is paring theirs back.

Poo...
I have so many QF bookings on QF flights this year and they have not even started emailing me the changes.
Guess I have to go into MMB and accept changes.
They don't indeed bleeding care.

I'd hold off before you start accepting changes (if there are any). For something that's just been announced, it's very unlikely you'll hear about changes right away for bookings later on in the year.
For one I'd wait to see what the change policy is as it may work out better for you (TT on a 380 for example instead of a 320 perhaps).

Just cool your jets;-)

Indeed.

Anyone holding ticketed flights on QF should demand a like-for-like replacement if they are reallocated onto Jetstar. This would include full meals and alcohol or a voucher for the same.

The minimum for a food voucher, each way, should be $30. This would allow the purchase of a sandwich and chips followed by ice-cream (a meal), a wine or beer with the meal, and a coffee after and bottle of water. These prices are based on the current JQ inflight offering.

A 'full refund' may not be acceptable in this case if fares on alternative carries are now more expensive.

Firstly, isn't this a violation of the ACCC approval to partner with EK trans-Tasman?

Secondly, what are they going to do with the leftover Jetconnect aircraft? A CBR-AKL service perhaps? :p

Wouldn't be a bad idea.

JQ on board food vouchers are only worth a measley Aud$5 or Nzd$5 is it.
Very strange, but if you or anyone goes to the QF booking website, it still lists a lot of QF flights from SYD and MEL to AKL, and not the majority JQ flights at that either.
I think someone at QF forgot to update the QF booking website that a lot of QF's JetConnect flights will be taken over by JQ.

I have done the SYD-AUK-SYD trip this week in J on the Qantas (Jet Connect) service and do it regularly. The service level provided by Jet Connect is generally very good which makes up for the tired/elderly J seats with no leg room and for the limited IES. I will not fly DeathStar and EK does not fly when I need to so if my flights are affected it will be a downgrade to AirNZ for me.
Elderly J seats? I was under hte impression that the Jetconnect aircraft were not particulalry old - only a few years. What is wrong with the seats?
