Qantas Delays/Cancellations

QF74 (VH-OJM with antique first class seats) departed SFO at 0432 some 4.75 hours late according to FA. Expected arrival is after 11am.

All other transpacific flights are on schedule even though QF11 (QF 12 actually thanks M1) transcontinental was a tad late leaving JFK.

As far as I'm aware there are 4 departing QFB747 flights ex SYD today: QF127 at 1005, QF27 at 1230, QF73 at 1310 and QF25 to HND which departs tonight. (QF63 does not operate on Wednesdays and Fridays).

I'm not sure whether OJM will be turning around to form any of these 4 outbound flights. If it does, of the 4, it could with efficient despatching depart on time as QF73 and QF25. Also likely that there is a spare 747 sitting around at the SYD base.

At least during mid afternoon, most domestic flights appear to be on time or early on Wednesday 8 June, a complete contrast to the more climatically challenging Sunday 5 June.

QF(i)35, the 1145 MEL to SIN (A332 VH-QPF) took off at 1214, only about 15 minutes late, but will lose a bit of time enroute, with arrival predicted at about 1827, 32 minutes late.

The WLG - MEL QF172 is timetabled to be off blocks at 1700 hours but on Wednesday 8 June was airborne at 1812.

Hence arrival will be at approximately 2017, 77 minutes behind time, with the B738 ZK-ZQD of Jetconnect having been in a relatively brief holding pattern over Korumburra.

QF463 (1830 hours SYD down to MEL) was airborne at 1859 and should be at the terminal gate at around 2036, 31 minutes behind time. B738 Vh-VYL is the operating narrowbody.

Tuesday 7 June's B744-operated QF16 was timetabled to depart from LAX at 2320 but instead pushed back at 0035 on Wednesday 8. BNE arrival should be 65 minutes late at 0715 hours on Thursday 9 June.

Meanwhile the A388-operated leg of QF12 departed LAX at 2349 rather than 2230 hours late on Tuesday evening for an approximate, predicted 0705 - 35 minutes late - Thursday 9 arrival.

In contrast to the others, QF94 for MEL is running a little early.

While only those with very flexible itineraries or connections to the likes of ADL, HBA, LST or PER will find this a useful tip, those whose journeys originate in LAX may carefully note that the MEL-bound flight QF94 can sometimes be punctual when QF12 is late ex JFK.

QF2 from LHR on Tuesday 7 June departed on time at 2130 hours, but did not arrive DXB until 0845 on Wednesday 8 June, 75 minutes late: was there fog in DXB?

It then departed 75 minutes late at 1030 - the mathematical chances of a delayed arrival and departure being 'no change' in relation to punctuality must be small - with Wednesday 9 June arrival in SYD forecast at 0600, 50 minutes late as this flight (for six months of the year) is one of a small number of international flights (three or four maximum) permitted to be scheduled to land between 0500 and 0559 hours.

My QF1502 HBA-MEL was supposed to leave at 10.10am on Sunday 5 June, but eventually took off at 12.30pm.

On Thursday 9 June 2016, QF2020 (0820 SYD to university city ARM) departd at 0847, arriving at 1006, 31 minutes late.

The 0845 hours SYD down to MEL, QF461, was cancelled.

QF23 (A332 VH-EBG), the 0950 hours SYD to BKK departed at 1033 and at 1100 was about to takeoff. QF has not updated its arrival time beyond suggesting it will be five minutes late into the Thai major centre.

By 1107 hours, FR24 was displaying a predicted 1742 hours QF23 touchdown so that would make it about 62 minutes late by the time it reaches the terminal 'gate.'

The overnight QF6 is about to arrive in SYD (ex SIN) at 1123, 93 minutes later than its timetabled 0950 hours, with refurbished VH-QPD the A333 employed. It has made uptime as the scheduled departure was 2355 hours on Tuesday night, but takeoff was not until 0234 this morning, so allowing 25 minutes for taxiing, it was about 134 minutes late when it became airborne.

The 1240 hours from DRW to MEL on Thursday 9 June, QF839 (B738 VH-VXB) was in the sky at 1418, about 80 minutes late and is in a hold slightly to Bendigo's east, with arrival predicted as 1832, 72 minutes late.

QF1713, the GLT - BNE 1630 hours departure took off at 1747 and hence B717 VH-NXN is not expected to be at the arrival gate until about 1847, 72 minutes late.

The Wednesday late evening 8 June 2016 QF12 (LAX to SYD) and QF94 (LAX to MEL) are not delayed, but QF16 (LAX - BNE) departed at 0232 hours on Thursday 9 June instead of 2320 on Wednesday. Arrival on Friday 10 June is expected to be 0855 instead of 0610 hours.

QF15 is forecast to depart from BNE on Friday at 1055 rather than 1000 with arrival half an hour behind (same day) in LAX at 0630. Hopefully this should not delay the onward leg to JFK too much.

QF73 SYD to SFO delayed 2 1/2 hrs. New est dep 15:30. Just spoke with one of the flight crew in F Lounge. Apparently problem with the rudder. I'm guessing that is pretty important
The plane is back in the hanger atm being worked on. Oh well I guess I'll have lunch now in an hour or so. See what Neil has on the menu.
Meanwhile I had eggs benedict for breaky then a back massage then the signature pavlova cos I thought I didn't have time for lunch :)

Ah OJM. The oldest aircraft in the Qantas fleet.

Goodonya Goodonya for posting this coal face report. When you refer to "flight crew" do you mean one of the pilots?.

Yes you are absolutely correct in saying that a rudder is important. It would be on the Minimum Equipment List for an aircraft!. Practically unflyable without one???

(I did see a picture of a WW2 USAF bomber missing its vertical stabiliser and it didn't crash , but would rather be on the ground for this one)

Sorry I meant cabin crew. Anyway seems the problem has been sorted as I can see OJM now sitting at the gate. Time for lunch with a glass of Tattinger. :D

Was it an announcement over the loudspeaker, or did the crew member speak with passengers personally.

Bear in mind that cabin crew and ground crew customer service agents wear the same uniform..

Seems like you are frantic in the FLounge and could do with a bit more delay?

If you have an onward connection, can you please report back and let us know how the airline deals with misconnections at the other end of your flight. Thanks in advance

Not really sure who I spoke to now but it wasn't the pilot  I'd had a glass or two of champers and they were walking around speaking with passengers personally.
Ive changed my mind now and have gone for the 2013 Vasse Felix cab sav and the slow cooked duck.

And I haven't been as "slow paced" frantic for a while

It would have been the Lounge manager.

Delays are taxing for an FLounger. You most certainly will need a rest on the plane after this!.

I remember 3 years ago. Left the Flounge to go to gate for QF11. While waiting at the gate and chatting to a random couple and a gate announcement broadcasted about a delay. A group immediately turned around and started walking to the Lounges. I said to the couple - follow me. Arrived back upstairs and the manager thought I had forgotten something. I told him QF11 delayed. He had not yet been notified- we were so fast back into the Flounge. Random couple had a great time!.
