Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Also on Saturday 18 February, QF19 from SYD to MNL is delayed in its departure from 1225 to a predicted 1430, meaning arrival at a suggested 1930, 115 minutes late.

On Saturday 18 February, QF80, the 1900 Friday 17 NRT - MEL that did not take off until 2100 should arrive at about 0844, 74 minutes late with A333 VH-QPE. QF79 back to NRT is delayed until 1000 in its departure, 45 minutes behind schedule.

The 0820 hours SYD - ABX, QF2205, has been cancelled.

QF1376, an 0700 MEL to SYD is also showing as 'cancelled.' This is not a normal flight number.

QF79 is delayed until 10pm

The delay to QF19 ex SYD on Saturday 18 February has become a 1530 hours departure.

QF64 from JNB is arriving in SYD at a suggested 1611 rather than the timetabled 1535. B744 VH-OEH is the plane.

Weather is looking rather ominous in Sydney.

Edit QF64 has entered a holding pattern

Indeed, Flyerqf: nasty storm cells approaching the airport. QF19 took off at 1549 with A332 VH-EBR.

Saturday afternoon is the least busy time (during the day) of the week but one wonders if a diversion or two will occur.

At 1900 hours (AEDT) on Saturday 18 February, the challenging weather is continuing around Sydney with QF580 (B738 VH-VZZ, the 1120 PER - SYD that took off only five minutes or so late at 1139) likely to arrive at 1919, 49 minutes late after having travelled as far south as Tumbarumba, NSW from Griffith and having experienced two holds over Griffith and then closer to Sydney over Marulan. Not a normal flight path.

Friday 17 February's QF1 departed SYD 40 minutes late at 1725 - yesterday also being stormy in the afternoon - but did not arrive at the DXB airport gate until 0217 on Saturday 18, 97 late. Departure was then at 0515 hours this morning, 155 minutes late with arrival in LHR expected at 0930, two hours 40 minutes (160 minutes) tardy. However unless there are unusual problems this should be in plenty of time to form the Saturday 18 QF10 ex LHR for DXB and MEL.

Friday 17's QF9 pushed back in MEL 32 minutes behind schedule at 2357 and should arrive LHR at 1325, 45 late.

VH-QPA is currently enroute to MEL (ex SYD) in order to operate the 14 hrs delayed QF79.

The departure time ex MEL has altered to an estimated 2300 hoyrs with NRT arrival estimated at 0715 hours on Sunday 19 February instead of 1730 hours tonight (18 February.) In turn the Saturday evening QF80, normally due out ex NRT at 1900 will supposedly depart at 0900 on Sunday 19 for a MEL arrival of 2130 instead of 0730, which as Flyerqf comments is exactly 14 hours late.

While it may have required maintenance in SYD today, A333 VH-QPA (shortly to venture to NRT as the replacement QF79) was not used after arrival on QF130 ex PVG - into SYD at about 0945 - until QF467 tonight, the 1930 hours SYD - MEL. This is poor utilisation for a recently refurbished c.300 seat aircraft.

On Sunday 19, the 0915 hours MEL - NRT QF79 is showing as punctual but it is not clear how this is being formed.

QF9, the late night 2325 hours MEL - DXB - LHR on Saturday 18 has been delayed to about 0230 on Sunday morning, 19 February in its projected departure. This is because QF10 is arriving at about 0050 on Sunday 19 instead of 2125 hours this evening. The latter had departed LHR on Friday 17 at 1342 instead of 1155 - 107 minutes late with the intermediate stop at DXB being from 0133 hours this morning (153 late) to 0325 (140 late.)

Note that the QF9 arrival in MEL is much later - an estimated 199 minutes behind time. I have not checked but perhaps there was congestion at DXB due to weather.

At this stage, the QF9 delay should not - fingers crossed - delay QF2 ex LHR on Sunday 19 February due to the lengthy allowed turnaround time.

VH-OQF diverted to FRA (while operating as QF1 DXB-LHR). Originally departed SYD on 17/2/17
Flightpath does not suggest a last minute decision.

On final approach into LHR at 1128hrs about 4 hours late (2228hrs Sydney time 18/2/17)

A380 maintenance season has recommenced on 13/2/17 with VH-OQJ positioning to MNL.

The QF website suggests that you will depart CBR at 1900 hours and arrive SYD at 1930 - that isn't possible because no flight can go from the CBR gate to one in SYD in half an hour.

Actually, I did once have a SYD-CBR flight with a block time of just 30 minutes. We took off from 16R in SYD, so just a short taxi. Flight time was 22 minutes.

Tomorrow's QF79 can be formed by the aircraft that should have operated today's flight - assuming its been fixed.

Why would QF1 have needed to divert to FRA? Is this a flow on effect of its late departure from SYD?

The Sunday 19 February QF79 has been altered to depart at 1230 instead of 0915 hours, meaning an NRT arrival at 2045 instead of 1730, which in turn will delay tonight's QF80 and possibly the Monday morning QF79.

QF10 arriving into MEL tonight (Sunday 19) will also be delayed as it has yet to leave DXB. QF estimates arrival at 2230 instead of 2125, so once again QF9 will be late.

The Saturday 18 QF9 departed MEL at 0301 on Sunday 19, more than three hours late.

UPDATE: QF10 is now showing as departing DXB at 0320 - it is later than that as I type - with MEL arrival at 2340 this evening, Sunday 19 February.

This will make it difficult for QF9 tonight to depart much before 0125 hours on Monday 20 February.

Given how Melbourne is gaining on Sydney through population growth and just a few hundred thousand behind, these frequent (though not everyday) delays to QF9 must be irritating to regular patrons.

Continuing with Sunday 19, A333 VH-QPH on the 0945 hours SYD - BKK QF23 only pushed back at 1047, so it should arrive at 1640, 65 minutes behind.

QPI just positioned to MEL as QF6017 from SYD to operate QF79.

QPE must still be unserviceable

That means there are two 333 out of the sydney schedule operating yesterday's and today's QF79/80

They will be covered by domestic 332s that have low utilization on weekends

The delayed QF10 departed DXB on Sunday 19 February at 0342 hours, 157 minutes late so tonight (or small hours tomorrow morning) arrival in MEL should be at 0025, 180 minutes late. The earliest that QF9 can piushback would be 0205 hours on Monday 20, although QF's website is claiming a punctual departure.

QF81 (1115 hours SYD up to SIN) took off at 1215 (A332 VH-EBC.) It should arrive about 35 minutes tardy at 1705 this afternoon SIN time.

The overnight delayed QF80 pushed back in NRT at 0940 on Sunday 19 for an expected 2150 hours arrival tonight in MEL, while QF79 was off blocks at 1234, more than three hours late for its journey in the opposite direction. This may be the first time that recently introduced QF79 and QF80 have been concurrently delayed.

As we all know bad luck comes in threes, so the normally on time QF61 (A333 VH-QPG) departed BNE 62 minutes tardy at 1052 on Sunday 19 with arrival at NRT predicted for 1850, 50 minutes late. The delayed QF79 ex MEL is forecast to arrive NRT at 2045 instead of 1730. It is unusual to have two QF delayed flights at NRT as the Japanese routes account for some of QFi's most reliable (punctual) flights.

Tonight's (19 February) QF62 from NRT to BNE is showing as pushing back at 2145, 135 minutes past the usual departure time of 1930 hours for a Monday 20 February suggested arrival at 0755 in lieu of 0540 hours. QF80 tonight is claimed to be punctual which may be a case of the airline not having yet updated its website.

This was an aircraft swap due to QPI going to MEL to do QF79.

QF61 looks to be forming 80 and 79 will go on to 62.
