Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Blackbird: the overnight delayed QF10 is VH-OQK not VH-OQC, having departed from LHR on Sunday 23 April at 1002 hours, almost 12 and a half hours late. The DXB stop is estimated as 2012 tonight to an unrealistic 2112, with claimed SYD arrival on Monday 24 at 1655 hours instead of 0510. It just keeps on getting later...

UPDATE: The QF2 estimated times in DXB are now 2010 to 2135 tonight, with Monday 24 SYD arrival at 1725.

Saturday 22 April's QF12 departed LAX at 2310, 40 minutes late; Monday 24 arrival should be at 0707 hours, 47 minutes behind schedule. QF16 was tardier, departing LAX at 0033 hours on Sunday 23, 73 late for a projected Monday 24 arrival time of 0705, 55 minutes late.

Sunday 23's QF595 (ADL across to PER, B738 VH-VZS) should pull in to its designated arrival gate at about 1946 hours, 31 minutes past the scheduled time.

Monday's QF127 & 11 are both still showing as 380, so QF1 will most likely be delayed on Monday.

Flyerqf, you are very rarely incorrect, but it appears that QF7 on Monday 24 April will be delayed in departing SYD from 1230 to 1930 hours, with suggested DFW arrival at 1935 hours instead of 1300 (same day.) The Monday QF8 (DFW - SYD) is not timetabled to push back until 2200 hours so in theory it should be punctual.

It is at first glance surprising that QF is not deciding instead to delay QF1, as its timetabled departure is not until 1550 (hence it would be delayed less than QF7) but as one of our aviators commented more than a year ago from memory, rotations are complex and have to do with numbers of cycles as key to when an aircraft is due for heavy maintenance attention, the latter (normally in MNL) determined a long time in advance and tightly timetabled.

On Monday 24 April, QF1511 (0620 hours SYD short hop to CBR) was cancelled while QF1411 on the same route and direction, the 0645 hours did not depart until 0750 with arrival at 0846, 66 minutes late.

The 0700 hours from SYD across to ADL, QF735, pushed back at 0759 with arrival predicted as 55 minutes behind schedule at 0935.

QF409, 0700 SYD - MEL departed at 0713 but did not arrive until 45 late at 0920. The following QF411 was only eight minutes late away at 0738 but arrival is forecast for 0953 hours, 48 minutes late due to a hold by ATC.

The 0820 hours SYD - ARM (QF2020) is forecast to depart at 1045 hours.

QF93 (MEL longhaul to LAX) departed 38 minutes tardy at 0953 hours; same day arrival is estimated as 0715, 40 minutes behind schedule.

QF1557 (1130 SYD across to ADL) is another cancellation on 24 April.

UPDATE: Sunday 23 April's QF12 left LAX at 2331 hours, 61 minutes later than the timetable. Anzac Day (25 April, Tuesday) arrival in SYD should be at around 0715, 55 minutes late.

Monday 24 April's delayed QF7 (due to the 12 hour plus late arriving QF2 ex DXB and LHR) departed SYD at 1933, 423 minutes late with DFW same day arrival predicted at 1935, 335 minutes tardy.

The Monday QF8 should be able, here's hoping, to depart on time.

Anzac Day Tuesday 25 April 2017 sees A332 Vh-EBG on QF108 from PEK to SYD likely to arrive at 1414, 54 minutes late this afternoon.

QF1511 (0620 hours SYD - CBR) has been cancelled for the second consecutive day.

QF790 (0940 hours tourist-friendly departure time from SYD to ASP took off at 1015 with B738 Vh-VYC. Arrival should be at 1257, 32 minutes past the allotted.

QF23 from SYD departed at 1027 hours, 37 minutes tardy; arrival in BKK should be at 1725 hours, 45 minutes late. VH-QPA is the A333.

The 1025 hours SYD - SIN was 21 minutes late departing but arrival of this QF81 has been delayed until a predicted 1725 hours, 35 minutes behind schedule. VH-EBO is the A332.

B744 VH-OJU on QF63, the scheduled 1050 hours SYD - JNB (QF63) took off at 1145; arrival should be at 1743, 43 minutes behind the timetable.

QF648 the overnight "red-eye" PER to MEL flight returned to PER and was subsequently cancelled, indicating an issue with the aircraft.

On Sunday 24 April, the transcontinental USA QF12 departed JFK 68 minutes late at 1918, arriving at 2158, 58 late. The A388 then departed LAX using the same flight number at 0016 hours on Tuesday 25, 106 minutes behind the schedule with Wednesday 26 arrival suggested as 0750, 90 minutes late.

BNE-bound QF18 pushed back in LAX at 0025, 65 late today with Wednesday 25 arrival predicted as 65 minutes late at 0715.

Neither of these delayed arruvals should, in theory, delay either QF11 or QF15 on Wednesday 25 April as they have generous turnarounds.

In a familiar refrain to regular AFF viewers, QF94 from LAX to MEL departed a minute late and should be about 20 minutes early on Wednesday morning. The reason is that QF wants it to form a punctual QF93 ex MEL, with that 'reversal' having to be more expeditious than its two northerly colleagues. While most passengers want to travel on nonstop flights if available, those travelling to ADL, HBA, LST or PER might consider QF94 to be potentially less likely to run late, so it may be a better option than QF12. On top of that, MEL is an easier transfer than SYD although the time taken to retrieve bags off the carousel in MEL and negotiate the single line at customs can be lengthy.

On Wednesday 26 April, QF496 (1745 hours MEL - SYD) is to be cancelled. Quicvkstatus: where are you - another opportunity to make a comment about the euphemistically described 'capacity management.' Oddly there does not appear to be a flight arriving in MEL that QF, at this stage, have cancelled so it is 'unbalanced.'

A388 VH-OQJ on QF128 from HKG down to SYD should arrive at 0748 hours, 38 minutes late on Wednesday 26 April.

In addition to the delay to QF128 as above, the Wednesday 26 April arriving QF118 in SYD ex HKG should pull in at 1034, 139 minutes tardy as takeoff last night was at 2350 hours compared with the timetabled 2050 hours departure. VH-QPI is the A333.

QF648 the overnight "red-eye" PER to MEL flight returned to PER and was subsequently cancelled, indicating an issue with the aircraft.

The red-eye may have flown after a change of aircraft.

QANTAS A330-200 VH-EBN operating QF648 Perth – Melbourne stopped the climb at 4,750 ft in the early hours of the morning due to a technical issue and returned immediately to Perth for a safe landing.

Following the earlier technical return of QF648 Perth – Melbourne to Perth, the delayed flight was subsequently operated in the early hours of this morning by QANTAS A330-200 VH-EBR.

On Wednesday 26 April, QF6002 is operating empty ('ferry flight') with B744 VH-OEJ having taken off from MEL at 1115 hours for what looks like SYD.

QF1528 (B717 VH-YQU, the 1030 MEL - CBR that was airborne at a delayed 1152 hours) should arrive in the national capital at about 1236, 56 minutes tardy.

I call these the WTF flights:lol:. Corresponding to the day of the week and/or "WTF its cancelled again"
These are extra flights which operate only on some weekdays. Between 1600 and 1800 the WTF flights (according to the QF timetable) for MEL-SYD are:

1615 QF468 (WTF)
1715 QF456 (SWTF)
1745 QF496 (TWTF)

Juxtaposed to these flights are 7 day a week flights plus JQ, so capacity management IMO would tend to affect these flights.
However they can also operate on other days as well

QF496 in the month of April operated on:
MTWTF
MT_T_
MT_TF
_T_

In comparo the less WTF flight QF456 in April operated:
STWTF
STWTF
STWT_
ST_

So in a 4 week period the timetable suggests QF496 would operate 16 flights
For the month of April it operated 13 flights.

In fact the other WTF flight QF456 is also cancelled while QF468 is still scheduled.

VH-QPI operating QF117/118 pair between SYD and HKG diverted to MNL.
This diversion did not cause substantial issues as the arrival back into SYD was just over 2 hours late and it should not affect for outbound QF117

M1 would bolding of aircraft regos and flight numbers assist in the reading of the threads?

.......

Not a D/C story but VH-OEF has been operating QF29/30 between MEL and HKG almost exclusively in the April except for 1 QF95/96.

I wonder why this is the case.

It might, but I find that an annoying practice so if I may say so, I prefer to not do it. However it's a constructive suggestion.

By leaving a line between paragraphs and trying to keep the latter short, I hope that viewers find the threads legible.

On Wednesday 26 April, QF81 (1025 hours SYD - SIN) departed 20 minutes late but forecast arrival at 1730 will be 40 late.

In further on a bleak Wednesday late afternoon (26 April) in MEL, QF469 (B738 VH-VXE, the 1615 hours SYD to MEL that was in the sky at 1655) should arrive at 1824, 34 minutes late.

Tuesday 25 April's QF12 left JFK 39 minutes late at 1849; LAX arrival was at 2135, 35 late. The A388-operated QF12 from LAX to SYD departed 27 down at 2257, with Thursday 27 April arrival predicted as 35 minutes late at 0655 hours.
