Qantas Delays/Cancellations

On Sunday 7 May 2017, QF2041, the 0935 hours from DBO to SYD took off at 1032. Q400 VH-QOU is arriving at about 1123 hours, 48 minutes behind time.

QF23 (0950 hours SYD - BKK) departed at 1034; arrival is forecast for 1745 late this afternoon BKK time, 65 minutes behind time.

A332 VH-EBQ on QF19 (1205 hours SYD - MNL) took off at 1228. It should arrive 32 minutes behind at 1902 hours. This is the third consecutive day this plane has been to MNL; prior to that, it did a SYD - SIN return and before that at least four return MEL - SIN, either on QF35/36 or QF37/38, so on occasion QF can use the same aircraft on the same route day in day out.

The Monday 8 May 2017-arriving QF2 should do so in SYD at about 0545 hours, 35 late despite pushing back in DXB at 0914 hours on Sunday 7, a minute ahead of schedule.

On Saturday 6 May 2017, QF12 from JFK to MNL departed an hour late at 1910 but was only 35 minutes late arriving in LAX. Despite QF16 from LAX to BNE departing 53 minutes late it is expected on Monday 8 May to be less than half an hour late arriving in SYD, while the 'connectee' (if I may mangle the English language) QF12 A388 is also less than that much late, so a smooth performance in contrast to some other nights in LAX.

Yesterday, QF129 diverted via Cairns. It was on the ground for just 1 hr 20 mins. It appears to have turned back toward Cairns indicating medical diversion.

Continuing with Monday 8 May, A333 VH-QPJ on QF129 (0935 hours SYD - PVG) did not become airborne until 1050 hours. Arrival is suggested an hour late at 1930 hours.

Turning back doesn't indicate medical, but the short time on the ground does....

Continuing with Monday 8 May 2017, QF127 (1000 hours SYD - HKG) departed pretty much on time at only nine minutes late. However arrival is likely at 1750, half an hour behind.

QF10 on 8 May has been cancelled between LHR and DXB, but is operating between DXB and MEL. It looks like A388 VH-OQC on QF1 (the Sunday 7 ex SYD) may have been cancelled between DXB and LHR, as it has yet to depart but none of the sites at which I have had a quick squiz are showing an official 'cancellation.' AFF member milehighclub may be kind enough to advise us as to whether this is a mechanical fault with the aircraft.

A333 VH-QPF on QF130, the 1955 hours scheduled Sunday 7 May ex PVG for SYD departed at 0048 on Monday 8, so SYD arrival is at an expected 1225 hours, 235 minutes late. This aircraft does not look to be operating the afternoon QF41 to CGK or QF5 to SIN so no further flights may be delayed even though VH-QPF has landed in SYD very late due to what was above suggested as a medical diversion into CNS yesterday for QF129.

The BNE - SIN 1200 hours 'high noon' QF51 has been delayed in its departure to an expected 1230 with arrival identically delayed by half an hour to 1845 this evening.

Colleague of mine is/was on QF1 - flight cancelled due to fuel leak.

This is quite an unusual reason if the sample of delays to A388s we have recorded here is any guide. Sounds like it might be complex to fix - finicky?

Advice from other passengers as to what delay(s) they have incurred (amount of time, when transferred if at all onto EK or QF9, hotel arrangements) would be welcome. Finding seats for 400 passengers or more could take a while, even though EK has six daily flights from DXB to LHR and QF also QF9.

Monday 8 May's QF2 from DXB departed half an hour behind at 0945 hours; SYD arrival is expected to be 35 minutes tardy at 0545 hours on Tuesday 9 May.

Sunday QF94 is delayed until 1500 Monday.

Thank you Flyerqf. QF expects LAX departure at 1600 hours on Monday 8 May (five minutes ago as I write) with MEL arrival at 2350 hours this evening, Tuesday 9 May. The delayed plane is A388 VH-OQL.

Tuesday's QF93, the 0915 hours ex MEL is anticipated to depart at 1120 for a two hour late same day LAX arrival at 0835 hours. However QF6018 (A388 VH-OQK), an empty working, did not take off from SYD until 0849 and at 0910 was only passing south of CBR so it will not be in MEL until about 0955 or later, making departure of QF93 most unlikely until at least 1135.

Monday 8 May's QF1 ex SYD departed DXB on Tuesday 65 minutes late at 0315 hours with LHR arrival predicted at 0745, 50 late.

Also on Tuesday 9, QF407 (B738 VH-VZE, the 0715 hours SYD down to MEL that did not depart until 0803) should arrive at about 0920 hours, half an hour behind schedule.

QF23, the 0950 hours SYD - BKK is instead expected to depart at 1320 this afternoon, meaning forecast arrival at 2015 hours this evening, 215 minutes tardy. The returning QF10 is unlikely to depart prior to 2140, 210 minutes late so SYD arrival in the morning may well be at around 1000 (Wednesday 10 May) if the delays do not further increase.

...QF10 on 8 May has been cancelled between LHR and DXB, but is operating between DXB and MEL. It looks like A388 VH-OQC on QF1 (the Sunday 7 ex SYD) may have been cancelled between DXB and LHR,
....

QF10 from DXB to MEL on Tuesday 9 May, the 0135 hours has been delayed until 1100 (1700 hours AEST) in its departure. This means a MEL arrival of 0605 hours on Wednesday morning 10 May instead of 2055 hours mid evening tonight.

QF9 does not seem to be operating ex MEL tonight (Tuesday 9 May) but this may have been preplanned. May is like February and November typically a lower demand month for international travel in and out of Oz, and QF sometimes has seasonal flight cancellations on the Australia - LHR routes, particularly the lesser patronised QF9/QF10 rather than the often better loaded QF1/QF2.

There are also a couple more QF9/QF10 cancellations in coming days.

On Tuesday 9 May, QF93 did not depart MEL until 1152, 157 minutes late; LAX same day arrival is suggested as 0910 hours, 155 late.

QF11 from SYD should be in LAX at 0700, half an hour behind schedule.

Although in post 5291 above, QF23 from SYD to BKK was suggested to be departing at 1320 hours, this occurred at 1406. Arrival is forecast at 2045 tonight, 245 minutes late.

This will make tonight's QF24 later than QF had latterly predicted. A 1000 hours or later Wednesday 10 May arrival is on the cards.

The badly delayed QF94 from LAX departed at 1606 on Monday 8 May, only six minutes later than the most recently amended predicted pushback commencement but arrival in MEL has become 0050 hours on Wednesday 10 May, an hour later than QF had forecast.

While it may not be a delay - I lack information - QF6003 (VH-OQG) as an empty working took off from MEL at 0620 on Wednesday 10 May 2017 and should arrive SYD at about 0730 hours. Its previous flight was the delayed QF94 that landed in MEL at 0022 this morning, so for balancing purposes given that another A388 worked down from SYD to MEL yesterday morning to operate QF93, OQG has had to fly to SYD.

A332 VH-EBJ on QF405 (0630 hours SYD - MEL) was not in the sky until 0722 on Wednesday 10 May. Arrival should be at around 0835 hours, half an hour behind schedule.

Over the month of May there are about 11 charters for the A380 so you may see some services not operate. Generally they will operate as a charter in one direction and as a normal flight in the other.

QF7 SYD-DFW today Wed 10 May seems to have "disappeared".
Any known reasons?
(Am on this flight soon and was idly checking recent ontime performance)
