Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

2/3 flights delayed this week. Not a good one for the Red Roo for me!

QF632 delayed ex Melb on 26/6.

20min delay to boarding followed by another 30min delay once everyone was boarded as we had "dropped off" the plan and ATC didnt have a push back slot for us.

Quick flying time up the coast of 1hr 15mins made up for some of the delays.

However we then we had the great pleasure of cutting laps around the GC for 30mins watching planes land at OOL while waiting for congestion at BNE to ease.

Touch down was ~1hr 10mins late.

The crew were amazing however. Will leave notes in the boquets thread however.

Indeed that is annoying (and actually a real thing, in case anyone thought it was a creative excuse!)

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

QF10 from LHR on Monday 30 June departed on time at 2225 but after its arrival in DXB a minute early at 0829, it did not depart the latter until 1504 - four hours and 34 minutes late - and is hence not due at MEL until 1001 this morning, four hours and 11 minutes behind time.

Both the QF and MEL websites claim that QF93 to LAX will be off blocks at 1030, which is impossible if QF10 is forming QF93 in MEL today.

Is QF ferrying the spare 12th A380 from SYD to MEL this morning to run QF93, or are these two websites simply too exuberant?

As far as Im aware there is no spare at the moment as VH-OQC positioned on Sun 29th June for maintenance in Manila and is still there.

Thank you, gwilli1. QF10 arrived MEL at 1009; QF93 got away at 1133 - two hours 23 late, but a nifty one hour 24 minute turnaround - impressive. QF93 is due at LAX at 0840, two hours and five minutes late.

Must...Fly!, it would be interesting to now how often such a shortage is because of too many aircraft movements, or alternatively whether an air traffic controller or two have called in sick and hence there is insufficient staff on duty. I gather that the latter has been a problem in SYD in the last couple of years, but the frequency of such occurrences is not something that about which the general public are informed.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

A nice surprise today. CBR very foggy this morning but QF763 for MEL left on time at 10.20 and from Mr L_t_L who flew, it was a pleasant flight and lots of lovely snow to look out through the windows.

I've heard of the (former) Fairfax 'rivers of gold' (revenue from classified advertising) but J on QF94 just became a small creek:

Melbourne-bound Qantas flight forced back to Los Angeles because of a burst water pipe | Breaking National News and Australian News | Geelong Advertiser

Carpet cleaning contractors are very good at dealing with such eventualities, but the fixed seating may make it hard to remove the water and then the dampness as well as they'd like. That's a question for those professionals. Wouldn't the carpet then smell for some time if not removed?

The QF website suggests that QF94 will be delayed from 2330 (Tuesday 1 July LAX time) to 2000 on Wednesday night with a projected arrival in MEL at 0450 on Friday morning 4 July 2014 instead of 0820 tomorrow (Thursday 3 July) morning.

If there is no spare A380 as suggested above, will a QF 744 be ferried ex SYD to operate tomorrow night's QF9, albeit with fewer seats than an A380 has?

QF10 didn't turnaround and operate QF93. QF94 landed at 0815 and went on to operate QF93.

It's an IT issue more than anything else.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

The QF94 cabin water leak delay above discussion at www.heraldsun.com.au (News Corp., like the 'Geelong Advertiser' link shown in my previous post) has turned into a discussion by readers about whether Boeing planes are safer than Airbuses. Readers are accusing each other of working for Boeing and so on.

Two QF94 consecutive flights are now delayed. The situation with the Tuesday night initial delay has not altered, but the Wednesday night 2330 departure has now been delayed until 0850 LAX time on Thursday with a forecast Friday late afternoon arrival in MEL at 1740.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Got a call from QF this afternoon advising that Thursdays QF 12 from LAX will be operated by a 4 class 744 in place of a 388, due to the water leak issue (above).

B744 OJM operating today's QF11 SYD-LAX service. OQJ operating the QF94D delayed service and OQL which arrived into SYD as QF12 this morning is currently positioning to MEL as QF6004 to operate tonight's QF9 DXB/LHR.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Had colleagues flying Devonport - Mel - Cbr this afternoon. Delays all around - in the order of 40 mins - 1 hour. First the Tasmanian leg (QF 2025) flight changed to a later MEL - CBR to accommodate this, but would have made the original MEL - CBR as it was 50 mins late. As it was they caught the 2.15pm flight instead. Lounge staff said things had been pear shaped all day.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Why is the LAX - MEL QF12 timetabled to depart from LAX at 2330 on Wednesday 2 July delayed by nine hours and 20 minutes to an estimated 0850 on Thursday 3 July - in other words, departing LAX seven and a half hours from now?

Because the aircraft that was due to operate it had to operate the delayed QF94 from the day prior, which returned to LAX due to water leak.
QF93 will arrive into LAX early morning on Thurs 3 July and turn around quickly to operate the delayed QF94.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Thank you flyerqf.
If they don't fix the water leak aircraft (OQD) in time, Thursdays QF94 will be delayed overnight too, as they have not sent an extra aircraft over to cover OQD.

I would imagine there is not a lot spare A380 capacity at the moment as OQC is in Manila for maintenance and QF127/128 is operated by A380 from Thursday to Monday.
