Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Due to a late inbound QF10, tonight’s QF9 has been delayed until 0600 tomorrow morning.
That’s going to be a very long night for the passengers. 22:20 hrs go home or book into hotels which might take up to 3 hours to get to hotel bed (personal experience) Then back to airport at 3-4am
At best maybe 3 hours sleep.

Flyerqf, QF10 looks to have an arrival time of about 2322 hours in MEL, less than two hours late.

Is there any obvious reason why the scheduled late night 17 February departure of QF9 could not occur at say 0110 hours on Sunday 18? Repairs to the A388?

As Quickstatus implies, 0600 is hardly a preferred time to depart Oz, although EK and PR are two that do, EK from more than one international airport here at times.

Hard to know what’s happening. Maybe the aircraft needs some line maintenance?. By doing this I think the original crew will be replaced.

The extended late arrival will require an immediate turn around as QF2. Unless QF2 will be cancelled in advance and this aircraft turns around in DXB?.

QF9 now showing 11hour delay ... Wonder if they are planning on using the QF94 equipment?

Appears to be Reginald Ansett that is having issues. Given that QF94 is scheduled to arrive at Gate 11 then it looks like you are right, Appears to be George Mcguiness

QF9 now showing as 1040 hours ex MEL, 675 late with London arrival at 2255.

QF2 will supposedly depart LHR at 0030 on Monday 19 for a 155 minute late, 0905 hours Tuesday 20 February arrival. All this is possible but if maintenance or repairs take longer at the London end, or passengers are uncooperative in all boarding when called - an understandable pet dislike of one of the AFF aviators, it irritates many passengers too - the delay will be greater.

As discussed on AFF but not for some time, LHR has annual and other caps on night time flights.

If I recall, some commented that these out of course forecast night/ super early morning departures are not always approved at LHR.

Interesting that on this occasion, QF9 is not terminating in DXB. Presumably this depends on a range of factors such as passenger numbers in each direction, crewing positioning, cost and so on. QF2 is also often busy. At other times, a late QF9 terminating in DXB has seen QF10 cancelled on its initial LHR to DXB sector.

Since a contract or agreement is just that, I won't speculate that as DXB for QF winds down, EK is being less cooperative in placing when needed QF passengers on EK flights at short notice.

QF9 got away at 1101 on Sunday 18. The LHR 2255 hours predicted arrival is based on the DXB stop reducing to 85 minutes. From observation, QF has managed this occasionally but it is a best case.

There may be a bit more time than indicated gained between DXB and the LHR terminus.

So seems QF 9D Utilized VH-OQC as suggested earlier by serftyfrom the incoming QF94 meaning today's QF93 has been delayed till approx 5 pm this evening.

I've just received this note from TripIt
TripIt Pro alert: Departure delay for QF 94 (LAX to MEL) on 18/2/2018
QF 94 (LAX to MEL) is currently DELAYED, departing terminal TBIT at 10:00 PST (from original 22:05 PST). Arrival time at MEL is now 20:55 AEDT.

Your connection QF 683 (MEL to ADL) is currently ON TIME departing at 11:30 AEDT. You will not make your connection.

I've checked my booking details in the Qantas app, and nothing untoward is showing, and I've had nothing from Qantas either via email or text.
Does this sound correct and I'm now leaving at 10am the following day, or is something totally stuffed up?

Maybe a bug.
QF93/94 is having some flights at the moment changed to 787, but today (sunday) is a A380 as normal.
QF93 today is currently delayed and, unless additional delays occur, is due to arrive at LAX at noon. QF11 is tracking for an on time arrival, meaning both A380 flights to LAX will be there in more then enough time to make the normal late evening departure times back to SYD and MEL.

There currently appears to be no reason to delay the flight overnight.

Doesn't look right to me. All of the 94s for the next few days are showing pretty much as planned, irrespective of type.

QF93 is now showing a 24 hour delay. I've moved my booking from Sunday's QF94 to route via SYD (QF12). I didn't receive any messages from Qantas about the delay either

hmm... google shows QF93 as enroute and FR24 shows "unknown"
Expertflyer shows:
MEL ESTIMATED TIME OF DEPARTURE 1100 ☨1
DELAYED 5.45HR DUE MAINT REQ ETD 1700 - OK 1443
TO REBOOK TO ALT QF/OA

Expertflyer is now showing QF94 with a similar message with overnight 11 hour delay.

The EK and QF agreement isn’t winding down as far as I am aware. In fact both parties will carry more each other’s customers under the new agreement.
