Qantas Delays/Cancellations

QF73, the Saturday 26 May 2018 - 1245 hours SYD - SFO is displaying as delayed until 1550 but that time has been and gone. Same day arrival for this B744 will be at least 190 minutes late at 1215 hours.

The 1210 hours SYD - PEK, QF107, departed at 1404 with suggested arrival at 2350 hours local time, 95 minutes late.

UPDATE: QF73 departed at 1651, 246 late. Arrival should be at 1320 hours, 235 minutes behind schedule. The late running is because QF128 was hours late ex HKG overnight, arriving SYD at 1233 this afternoon instead of 0655 in the morning. QF127 yesterday had only been 11 late in arriving HKG at 1811 hours (Friday 25) so something went wrong up there.

QF29 (Sunday 27 May 2018 0935 hours MEL up to HKG) is expected to depart two hours late at 1135, with arrival predicted at 1905 tonight, 105 late. There is no obvious reason for the delay as all the arrivals from overseas seemed on time this morning.

The 0930 hours SYD - PVG, QF129, departed 72 late at 1042 hours and should arrive at 1855, half an hour tardy.

QF23 is often late, with this morning living up to that as pushing back occurred 63 minutes tardy at 1053. BKK arrival should be at 1724, 44 late. The 1810 hours BKK - SYD overnight should be able to depart as QF24 at around 1845.

With QF107 departing late yesterday, the Sunday arrival of QF108 is expected at 1441 this arvo, 81 minutes late.

In further on Sunday 27 May, B744 VH-OJU on QF27 had been showing late this morning as departing on time at 1235 hours but ended up only commencing pushback in SYD at 1514 (159 late), taking off at 1532 mid afternoon. The aircraft had been idle yesterday after arriving from SCL on Friday 25, so again no obvious reason for the delay.

SCL Sunday arrival is predicted as 1350 hours, 160 minutes late. In turn this will mean that the scheduled 1330 hours SCL back to SYD will be unable to depart until at least 1535, 105 late so the timetabled Monday afternoon 1750 arrival will be delayed.

@Flyerqf or @moa999, is this likely to delay the Monday QF25 SYD - HND B744 due out at 2050 hours tomorrow night or will there be a spare B744 to operate it on time if QF chooses to use a different aircraft?

Further to an above post, QF29 on Sunday 27 May arrived HKG at 1856 hours, 96 late with A333 VH-QPG. As often occurs, it is next rostered on the 2015 hours QF98 down to BNE that may depart marginally late due to what has become a minimum turnaround.

Due to QF23 again being late, on Sunday 27 May QF24 departed BKK 56 minutes behind at 1906 hours. Monday 28 arrival should be at around the 0718 mark, 53 minutes tardy.

QF1 SIN-LHR delayed tonight.

Main deck could board, but upper deck was delayed due to a catering truck with the J and PE meals breaking down. Then the replacement catering truck apparently broke down. Upper deck pax currently still in the waiting area, awaiting permission to board... economy (and F) stewing on the tarmac. It's been about an hr since boarding began, and currently 30 minutes after scheduled departure.

The QF2 LHR-SIN-SYD service scheduled to arrive on 29 May at 0510 has been delayed by a whopping ~12h and is now retimed to arrive at 1700 (on 29 May).

What is the situation when this is a connecting flight? Do I get accommodation in Singapore. (Bangkok airport could not help and did not know about the delay)

As QF is a 'legacy' - not a 'low cost' - airline, I'd expect that you would receive accommodation as the delay is long enough.

If you can, get in touch with the QF call centre. If that's difficult or impossible, ask to see the supervisor at check in.

Sunday 27 May's QF10, the 1315 hours LHR - PER (B789 VH-ZNB) departed at 1428 hours, arriving PER today (Monday 28) at a remarkably similar 1415 hours, 75 minutes behind schedule. The plane then departed for MEL at 1540 (70 late) and should arrive at 2046 tonight, 51 late.

As a result QF95 is predicted to depart 40 minutes down at 2220 hours, and be 35 late arriving at LAX at 1935 hours same day.

Thankyou. I have been put on a flight to Melbourne and then Sydney. Happy with that and enjoying a glass of wine in the lounge as I write. Made me realize that this had never happened to me before with many years of flying under my belt.

Has been further delayed now until 1500. OQA is the original aircraft.

OQC is taking over now but has been delayed due to catering issue.

They will struggle to get in before Sydney curfew if they don’t get a hurry along.

Tuesday 29 May 2018 sees QF128 (B744 VH-OEB, the 2000 hours Monday 28 that was airborne from HKG at 2119) likely to arrive at 0739, 44 late.

Sunday 27's QF2 departed LHR at 1541 hours, later than Flyerqf had suggested and 18 hours 26 minutes tardy. The SIN stop should be 1100 today until 1215 - normally about the minimum - for a projected SYD arrival tonight at 2140 instead of 0510 hours, or 16.5 hours late.

QF2 (that departed LHR hugely late at 1541 on Monday 28 May as above) is further delayed with the SIN stop expected to commence at 1115 hours on Tuesday 29 May, making it very difficult to depart at 1215 as the QF website claims. Aircraft is A388 VH-OQC.

Making things confusing, the Monday 28 May scheduled QF2 ex :LHR at 2115 hours has been delayed until a predicted 0935 hours on Tuesday 29 - that is, in about seven hours' time - with the SIN stop to be 0535 to 0700 on Wednesday 30 May and SYD arrival at 1645 instead of 0510 hours tomorrow, 695 minutes late.

Monday 28 May's QF1 (ex SYD) arrived SIN at 2218, just three minutes late, but departure was not until 0043 hours today (48 minutes tardy) so predicted arrival at LHR has become 0735 hours, 40 minutes behind schedule.

There has also been a predicted 7 hour delay for the QF1 on the 29th of May (Today) but only for SIN-LHR. The SYD-SIN is still on time. New departure/ arrival time for the QF1 (SIN-LHR) is 0640 (Wed 30th) arriving 1325 (Wed 30th)

calmelb, thank you very much.

@milehighclub or @Flyerqf may be able to confirm - better informed than me - but this looks like a staff-induced delay in that they need to have minimum rest after arriving in SIN not long ago (today) on the about 17 hour late QF2 from LHR.

This may be one of the limitations of reverting to this SYD - SIN- LHR route: no other crew are typically available at short notice to operate a flight if an inbound is badly late.

The much delayed QF2 was in SIN on Tuesday 29 May from 1119 to 1252 hours, but did not take off until 1327 this afternoon, meaning expected arrival in SYD tonight at 2235 instead of the usual 0510 hours.

With an eight hour abnormal break for QF1 in SIN tonight as noted above, will every passenger be given an hotel room or do some or all have to 'slum it' at Changi?

UPDATE: the delayed Sunday ex LHR QF2, operating as QF2D, is arriving with A388 VH-OQC a little earlier than predicted. It should be at its SYD arrival gate at around 2225 hours on Tuesday 29 May.

Monday 28 May's QF2 was as mentioned above delayed overnight, departing LHR at 1032 hours on Tuesday 29, the second consecutive days of bad delays.

The SIN intermediate stop is predicted from 0630 on Wednesday 30 May to 0745 - quick, and faster than QF2D achieved today, so the forecast may be optimistic - and afternoon arrival in SYD tomorrow at 1730 hours, 740 minutes late.
