Qantas Delays/Cancellations

QF9, the Queen's Birthday (in Vic) 10 June 2019 MEL - PER departed 17 late at 1532 with expected arrival 1759, 44 late. The second sector should depart 40 late at 1925 according to QF - a wee optimistic if the arrival doesn't advance - with Tuesday 11 LHR arrival forecast as 0550, 45 down.

QF1017 MEL-HBA (B738 VH-VYC) is just touching down at 21 45, 40 tardy.

QF464 MEL-SYD (A332 VH-EBB) is currently taking off, it should be in Sydney just before curfew. Arrival is expected around 22 50, 115 behind.

QF653 MEL-PER is also delayed, with a revised departure at 21 45, 70 min tardy. No movement as of yet from the aircraft.

Was your itinerary and hotels booked through Amex?
My flight over (with $450 QF card credit) and fees on partners points flight over yes. Hotel paid on Amex booked through Qantas hotels. Fees on points flights home no. I think technically they could have said no to the claim as T&C says return trip paid on card. I suppose they looked at it and said $229, we'll settle.

Tues 11th of June sees the red eye QF648 (A332 VH-EBK) PER-MEL arriving at 6 42, 82 tardy. This further delayed QF408 MEL-SYD, which now has a suggested arrival of 9 14, 49 min late.

QF94 LAX-MEL (A380 VH-OQF) has a revised arrival at 9 22, 112 behind schedule.

Also on the 11th of June, QF2130 (Q400) MEL-CBR estimated to depart an hour 10 tardy (1:30pm from 12:20pm) due to missing crew, unsure on follow on delays

Flight got in 2:25pm, being 55 minutes tardy. Delay was caused by the late QF2131 which were carrying the crew for the service (CBR-MEL, meant to arrive 11:35, actually arrived 12:58, 83 minutes tardy), apparently delayed due to a window falling off

QF2054, the Tuesday 11 June 2019 scheduled 1350 hours DPO - MEL (Q400 VH-LQL) took off at 1449 hours so predicted arrival is 1544, 49 late.

QF2054, the Tuesday 11 June 2019 scheduled 1350 hours DPO - MEL (Q400 VH-LQL) took off at 1449 hours so predicted arrival is 1544, 49 late.

A linked delay to the QF2131 which also delayed my flight (The 2130) as we had the 2054 crew in MEL but not our crew, and they didn't yet have their plane

B738 VH-VZR on QF708, the 1610 hours ADL across to CBR on Tuesday 11 June 2019 took off at 1653. Estimated arrival is 1846, 31 late.

Wednesday 12th of June sees QF1014 HBA-MEL (B738 VH-VZS) with a revised arrival at 16 27, 67 tardy.
QF2165 PQQ-SYD (Dash Q300 VH-SBG) arrived at 13 15, 85 min behind schedule.
QF797 ASP-MEL (B738 VH-VXG) also running late and now expected at 16 44, 64 late.

On Thursday 13 June, QF408, the 0700 hours morning MEL - SYD (A332 VH-EBN) was not airborne until 0752 hours, so arrival should be 0906 hours, 41 late.

Opposite number (SYD - MEL) QF409 has VH-EBK and is worse, having taken off at 0800 with arrival suggested as 0917 hours, 42 late.

In more on Thursday 13 June, QF29, the 0940 hours MEL - HKG is expected to depart at 1300 hours, making arrival 2035, 195 late.

A332 VH-EBS on QF145, the 1135 hours late morning SYD - AKL has not taken off by 1225 so arrival will be at least 40 late.

UPDATE: A333 VH-QPI was airborne from MEL at 1328 as QF29. Estimated arrival remains at 2035 tonight. No standout reason for the delay as the aircraft had overnighted in MEL after arriving at 2053 hours, seven minutes early, on QF158 from AKL.

As a result, tonight's QF98 from HKG, the BNE-bound redeye is suggested as pushing back at 2150 hours, 95 late for Friday 14 arrival at 0840, 100 late.

QF450 (1630 hours Thursday 13 June MEL up to SYD) has been cancelled.

The 1645 hours MEL - AKL, QF155 has been altered to depart at 1735.

Severe turbulence is to occur down to 1000 feet between NTL (SYD) and CBR according to ATC as at 1700 hours.

Is there a pattern to which inbound 747 operates SYD-HNL? What’s the usual turn around time?

QF2221, the Friday 14 June 0735 hours SYD down to WGA was airborne at 0826 with Q400 VH-QOR. Arrival is predicted as 0920, 35 late.

The 0635 hours MEL - SYD (normally 0630) QF404 was cancelled. QF2051 (0810 hours MEL down to DPO) also got flicked.

docjames, perhaps not a question for this thread, but if I understand it, QF3/QF4 are B744s with the schedule showing an arrival in HNL at 0830 and a departure at 1050 hours local time on MWFSa (i.e. four days a week at present).

The allowed turnaround time is greater than the minimum observed that for an aircraft of this size is normally about 100 minutes. It always strikes me as sensible, when feasible, for turnarounds at outstations to incorporate more time than really needed as this advantages boarding passengers if an inbound is late. QF doens't have the option at HNL to substitute another another as it may in SYD, for example.

QF93, the 0900 hours Friday 14 June MEL - LAX A388 is not expected to depart until tonight at 2050 with predicted arrival at 1820 instead of 0615 hours, 725 minutes late. While there are three overnight (redeyes) from LAX to JFK operated by AA, I wonder if some passengers ask for an hotel overnight in LAX (or pay for one themselves) and travel to JFK the next day on either QF's B789 or an AA flight?

This looks to be due to QF94 (A388 VH-OQF), the Wednesday 12 June 2240 hours LAX - MEL not departing until 1007 hours on Thursday 13 with arrival in MEL tonight at a suggested 1905 hours, 695 late.

I assume that because QF would know of QF94's troubles many hours in advance of the QF93 normal check in time at MEL this morning, passengers who lived in Melbourne or environs would be advised to stay at home at front tonight at say 1750 hours for check in.

Because this is an anticipated 12 hour daytime delay - 0900 to 2050 hours - would connecting passengers or those from overseas be given an hotel room at or near MEL, or in the Melbourne inner suburbs/CBD for day use?

If any AFFers could let us know of arrangements many would be appreciative.

It is rare for QF36 not to form QF93, but in this case QF has presumably determined that it's better to keep QF35 today on schedule than delay it and then QF36 tonight ex SIN. QF36 this morning arrived 26 minutes early at 0509 hours with A388 VH-OQI.

QF12 arrived in SYD (ex LAX) on Friday 14 June at 0728, 58 late.

In one I didn't pick up on earlier, the Monday night QF94 ex LAX was cancelled, and another day this week the flight ran 80 late, so quite some problems on this popular route.
