Qantas Delays/Cancellations

QF583 (12 August, the 1950 hours SYD transcontinental across to PER) took off at 2100 hours with arrival for A332 VH-EBJ likely at 2340, 45 late.

QF has a note that one can't miss on its home page re flight disruptions at HKG. This directs us to the flight status page, but when I typed in some of the southbounds (i.e. ex HKG) for Monday 12 August evening such as QF98, they were still showing as operating, which can't be correct as passengers were unable to check in. I reloaded my browser so hopefully it's not my error.

As others have noted in a separate thread, northbounds tonight (i.e. from Oz) such as the 2120 hours ex SYD, QF117, are running.

QF117 has now been cancelled.

Everything to HKG has been cancelled today. Assuming the airport reopens as planned, those flights that did not depart last night, will operate tonight instead.

On Tuesday 12 August, the frequently delayed QF63 (B744, 1055 hours morning flight SYD - JNB) is expected to push back half an hour late.

The Tuesday 13 August QF62, the 1955 hours NRT - BNE is deferred until an expected 0930 hours on Wednesday 14 in its departure with arrival expected tomorrow at 1925 hours, 810 minutes late. This morning QF79, the 0910 hours MEL - NRT diverted via BNE, stopping from 1153 to 1408 - a long pause - with arrival suggested as 2200 in NRT.

As Himeno reminds, us - she's the world expert - NRT has extremely stringent slot limitations for airlines with QF no exception, so the stop (if say for a medical emergency) in BNE may have been longer than normal because '2200 hours' was the next available time for QF to land 'the 79.'

Thanks tomcut2000. Great info again. I have deleted my post above. What was it about any of us speaking too soon?

It's okay... I only just got word from HK... I am a HK person who lives here.. so I do read HK news.. so I get this information quickly.. sad I am the one to break this news again for the 2nd night in a row!! Not sure if you can help.. the Australian consulate staff are at airport atm helping.. green vest... Their Facebook page is saying they are at HKIA arrivals A hall helping

Could you please kindly spread word in this forum??

Presumably given the number of QF aircraft to be in HKG tonight and unable to depart for Oz cities on redeyes, even more QFi flights will be cancelled tomorrow.

Happy to be corrected but won't there be eight QFi aircraft stabled in HKG this evening (assuming none run empty back to Oz?)
Need to correct you... As far as I can check.. no HKG EX AU services for Qantas today...

NRT doesn't have the "stringent slot limitations", that's HND. NRT does have a curfew.
A 2 hour stop, which doesn't seem unreasonable for a medical diversion, and 10pm arrival at NRT would prevent the aircraft departing prior to the 2300 curfew.

QF didn't send the north bound HKG flights out this morning.

As was the case yesterday, the QF flight status website is not being promptly updated.

As one example, QF118, the 2235 hours HKG to SYD is showing as running on Tuesday 13 August, but this is incorrect.

Mystifying when QF says on its website to refer to the flightv status pages for updates.

Quick morning update ... The HKG Southbound flights ..(QF 118 & 128 to Sydney, QF 98 to Brisbane and QF 30 Melbourne services) did manage to depart late last night (13/08/2019)... Expect delays in arriving in Australia this morning... I think these flights will be almost empty.. as HK check in was cancelled... I feel these flights were for transit passengers only

QF118 (2235 hours HKG to SYD) departed at 2332 with SYD Wednesday 14 August arrival expected at 1037, 37 late.

QF30 from HKG departed 64 late at 2114, arriving MEL on Wednesday at an estimated 0917, 102 late.

'The 98' from HKG to BNE departed 43 late at 2048 with arrival at 0728, 28 late.

QF128 from HKG to SYD was worst, pushing back at 2133 (123 minutes tardy) with arrival on Wednesday at 0901, 126 minutes behind schedule.

Continuing with Wednesday 14 August 2019, QF589 from BNE to PER, the 0820 hours, took off at 0912 with arrival suggested as 1226 hours, 31 late. Aircraft is B738 VH-VXD rather than a more popular A332 or even occasionally the 'training flight' (as Flyerqf informed us) that sees a B789.

QF79, the 0910 hours MEL - NRT is estimated to depart at 1130, due to the late inbound QF30 as above.

Also on 14 August, QF23 (0950 hours SYD - BKK) departed 63 minutes late with arrival likely at 1717, 37 minutes behind schedule. This will slightly delay redeye QF24 back overnight to SYD.

The delay to QF79 has increased with projected departure becoming 1330 this afternoon, 260 late. Barring cancellation or an overnight delay, this is one of the longer delays since we monitored this northbound. NRT arrival is forecast for 2235 hours, four hours tardy.

QF93 departed MEL at 0919 hours, 19 late but arrival is not expected (same day) in LAX until 0700, 35 late.

UPDATE: A332 VH-EBQ pushed back at 1405 and was promptly airborne from MEL on QF79 at 1414 hours, later than expected. Forecast arrival is 2255 hours, 260 minutes tardy. This A332 had arrived into MEL on QF480 (ex PER) at 1121, 14 minutes early, so it looks like an A333 had failed in MEL.

It is not normal for an 1135 hours scheduled domestic arrival to form an 0910 hours scheduled international departure.

QF80 tonight (2005 hours ex NRT) has been delayed overnight and should depart at 1000 tomorrow (Thursday 15 August) with arrival in MEL at 2135 hours mid evening, 840 minutes late. Sometimes QF79 forms QF62 to BNE, and the arriving QF61 forms QF80 to MEL ex NRT but there doesn't seem to be a consistent pattern.
