Qantas Delays/Cancellations

One that was missed yesterday (Monday 17 February) was Q200 VH-TQG on QF2192, the scheduled 1715 hours SYD to another location where recent rains have been good, MRZ. It took off at 1750 but diverted back to SYD, with QF2193, the 1915 hours MRZ - SYD then cancelled. The general weather on BOM site suggests that winds had picked up at Moree from gusts of 28kmh to 57kmh, so maybe too hazardous to land? Looking at its flight path, it flew across to Walgett of all places. I've been there: not exactly the centre of the universe (though in a good year, an important graingrowing area.)
Same thing happened on a SYD to MRZ flight on 2nd of Jan. We got within a few minutes of Moree and a massive stormfront came up, making it unsafe to land. After about 20 mins of circling we got diverted back to Syd and put up in hotels overnight. Qantas very much dropped the ball with care of special assistance passengers on this flight (one very frail elderly lady in particular) and other passengers had to step up to make sure they were looked after.
 
Monday 24 February has seen QF63 (B744 VH-OEI), the 1135 hours SYD - JNB not depart until 1314, taking off at 1331. Predicted at gate arrival has become 1735, an hour late, so the pushback of redeye return QF64 may be about half an hour behind schedule. The reason is that QF26 from HND last night (the 2200 hours redeye) took off at 2325, arriving SYD unusually late at 1036 hours, 61 minutes behind.
 
Later on 24 February 2020, QF2286 (1700 hours LST up to MEL airborne at 1721 with Q400 VH-QOF) should arrive at 1845 hours, half an hour behind. The aircraft had to hold above Bass Strait.
 
QF63, the often delayed 1135 hours B744 from SYD across to JNB is predicted to depart an hour behind schedule on Tuesday 25 February 2020.

Thw 1125 hours SYD up to SIN, QF81, is not affected as much as pushback is suggested for 1155 hours.

UPDATE: QF63 departed at 1304 hours within a 70 late arrival at JNB (1745) predicted, so that will increase the pushback delay that QF64 will suffer.

Late departure ex ADL, due to late arrival of operating aircraft from ASP, likely hasn’t helped.

Am currently onboard QF692 ADL-MEL, holding c.200km W of MEL waiting for a slot. According to the captain, current projected arrival is 1815, 20 late.
Late departure ex ADL, due to late arrival of operating aircraft from ASP, likely hasn’t helped.

Aircraft B738 VH-VZP is now displaying as a likely at gate 1830 hours arrival, 35 minutes behind but as I write at 1758, you look as if you're still holding above Bendigo.

I am not at MEL and aware that single runway ops. can change back to two runways in use in an instant, but FR24 suggests that the north-south runway is the sole one in use, so that means delays at busier times.

Yes, all traffic using RWY16 due to the forecast/actual southerly.
Haven’t checked the weather obs but surface damp and cloud base maybe 1000 feet when we became visual c. 2 miles N of MEL.

Edit: conditions improving looking airside from terminal - cloudbase now appears to be lifting & RWY27 opened for departures

QF551 scheduled to depart Brisbane at 1735 to Sydney today (26 February) was cancelled.

QF97, the 0935 hours BNE - HKG was cancelled on Ash Wednesday, 26 February 2020. The 1830 hours redeye back down to BNE, QF98, is also getting the flick.
 
Later on 26 February, QF437 (B738 VH-VZM, the 1330 hours lunchtime SYD down to MEL not airborne until 1455) is arriving at a suggested 1614 hours, 69 minutes tardy.

QF470, the scheduled 1545 hours MEL - SYD and QF448 an hour later have been cancelled. SO has QF456, the 1715 hours.
 
Much later on 26 February, QF718, the 1525 hours PER - CBR took off at 1643 with B738 VH-XZN. Arrival should be 51 late at 2316 hours.
 
Thursday 27 February has QF565 (scheduled 0620 hours early morning SYD - PER, the bonus of an A333 in the form of VH-QPJ) not having become airborne until 0751 hours. Arrival looks to be 66 late at 0921 hours.

The 0815 hours MEL - DPO, QF2051, is expected to depart at 1000.

QF2078 (0825 hours MEL up to Victoria's MQL) has been cancelled.

This afternoon, QF470, the 1545 hours MEL - SYD is suffering the same fate.

Continuing with Thursday 27 February 2020, QF127, the 0935 hours SYD - HKG has been cancelled. I don't know if this is due to low bookings, a defective aircraft or some other cause. QFI has already announced reductions in frequency between BNE/MEL and HKG such has been the slump in bookings. On another AFF thread, a member commented that a corporate travel insurer has said that a number of nations (including mainland China and HKG) are now not covered by it, so that means a reduction in corporate travel, the biggest money spinner for most legacy airlines.

It would be interesting to know if QFi in these circumstances merely finds spare seats on tonight's QF117 or whether (despite CX reductions) it endeavours to book some on a CX flight.

The 1820 hours redeye HKG down to SYD tonight, QF128, is also cancelled.
 
QF1, the Thursday 27 February 1700 hours SYD - SIN - LHR departed 36 minutes late so arrival tonight should be at 2235, half an hour behind for its first sector.
 
On Friday 28 February, QF402 (B738 VH-VXP, the 0745 hours MEL - SYD airborne at 0847) should arrive at 0956 hours, 46 minutes late.

The ADL - SYD QF732 (VH-VXC) should be at its gate at 0948 hours, 33 late.

I forget the actual limits, but crossing operations have visibility and cloudbase restrictions.
 
QF27, Friday 28 February's lunchtime long flight from SYD to SCL did not push back until 1609 hours,and then took off at 1628, so expected same day arrival has become 1358 hours, 168 minutes tardy. The return QF28 is showing as a proposed 1555 hours departure (160 late) with SYD Saturday 29 arrival at 2015, 145 minutes behind the schedule.

The plane had arrived in SYD this morning as QF128 overnight from HKG, its at gate arrival being 0654, 14 late, so no obvious reason why its pushing back was tardy this arvo.

At this stage this B744 (VH-OEH) is showing as forming the Saturday evening SYD - HND redeye, QF25, the timetabled 2135 hours, so if the trip over to and back from SCL doesn't pick up more time, 'the 25' will be at least a little late in pushing back. Given that there's only five B744s left in the QFi fleet, it's harder to substitute one for another, particularly on the busier days when there isn't normally a spare.
 
B738 VH-VYB is on the FRiday 28 February peak period, early evening MEL - BNE, the 1810 hours airborne at 1902 on a most pleasant day in the southern capital. Arrival at gate looks to be about 2004 hours, 44 behind.
