Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Melb Airport website. I rechecked to make sure I'd not confused the dates, but it's tomorrow.
I don't think these flights were scheduled to operate tomorrow. Auckland Airport isn't showing these flights as cancelled. They don't even come up, hence my belief these were removed sometime ago if they were planned.

We've discussed this previously, but it surprises that airports can be inconsistent in when they remove (or keep) "cancellations" on public display. Maybe I am omitting the possibility of human error.

This leaves QFi with only one flight from MEL to each of AKL, CHC and WLG tomorrow. The AKL flight at 0800 hours departs at the same scheduled time as competitor NZ. Given many residents' nervousness about not travelling because if they do, a sudden border shut may leave them on the 'wrong side', perhaps one flight from QFi to the three main cities reflects depressed demand compared to prior to COVID-19.

Ex SYD tomorrow, QFi has two to AKL and one to each of CHC, WLG and ZQN.

Tuesday 18 of May sees QF1532 HBA-SYD (B712 VH-NXE) had an arrival at 15 14, 69 min late.
QF778 PER-MEL (A332 VH-EBF) with a revised arrival at 19 21, 56 tardy.
QF1571 CFS-SYD was cancelled.

On Friday 21 May, QF405 (0630 hours SYD - MEL) was cancelled, as will be QF512 at 0905 from SYD up to BNE, and, later, QF1578 at 0935 (SYD - CFS).

QF1503 (0905 hours SYD - CBR) is expected to depart half an hour late.

Fog affecting arrivals into CBR this morning, and subsequent departures.
Flights affected include (but certainly not limited to) QF724 inbound from ADL, and the return QF725; similarly QF864/5 from/to MEL.
Aircraft which overnighted in CBR appear to have departed largely as scheduled

Wed 26th of May sees QF702 MEL-CNS (A332 VH-EBQ) with a revised arrival at 15 05, 120 min tardy. The return leg QF703 is suggested to depart at 15 50.
With the travel bubble paused between NZ and VIC, the ex MEL flights to CHC, WLG and AKL have been cancelled

QF597 OOL-SYD got cancelled today. Plane arrived on time from Sydney on QF592 but was 'not serviceable' for the return leg.

They put me on VA536 to Sydney (like for like, still business and same seat).

Guess I have to call them for the status credits as I booked it last week during the Points Club Member DSC promotion...

When I was travelling to/from CBR in possible fog-bound annual months, the 'golden rule' was 'don't book a scheduled departure or arrival between about 0800 and 1100'.

Not perfect but seemed to mostly work. I can't remember departures at say 0600-0630 ex CBR being delayed, but a different story for a 1000 one that might be cancelled due to the aircraft ending up in SYD ex MEL, or even back in MEL.

With the NSW Premier suggesting to residents they don't visit Melbourne, SA banning Melburnians, WA requiring those who've been in an exposure area to self isolate until a test result for coronavirus comes back as negative and NZ continuing with its three day 'travel pause' ex and to MEL, quite a few flights are cancelled ex MEL on Thursday 27 May 2021.

The prospect of a five day lockdown in Melbourne to be allegedly announced this morning will further stymie travel.

QF151, the 0800 hours MEL - AKL is one cancellation, as is QF171 at 0900 to WLG.

The 0735 hours to ADL (QF673) is another along with its 0935 hours sister, QF679. QF685 this afternoon at 1335 is another that won't operate, and nor will QF691 at 1635 hours.

QF1322 at 0815 hours to DRW is a no-show.

The 0900 and 0915 hours to SYD, QF426/QF428 have also got the gong. Much later, QF478 at 1800 is another not to run.

While the list may be incomplete, tomorrow (Friday 27 May), QFd is cancelling at least 17 'own metal' flights ex MEL. A majority were to be SYD-bound.

Hard to know if this means Sydneysiders (or other non-Vics travelling) will be stranded in Melbourne as there may be some from today who can't get on to a flight. Irrespective, stressful.

Yesterday (Wednesday 26 May) after operating QF6101 empty from SYD up to DRW, B789 VH-ZNH was on QF111, the 1250 hours DRW - DEL that took off at 1507, arriving at 1949 hours, 104 minutes late.

The return flight loaded with those being repatriated, QF112, was the 2005 hours DEL - DRW up up and away at 2151, arriving DRW on 27 May at 1045 hours, 85 minutes behind. The aircraft then continued down to MEL as the 1020 hours airborne at 1100, but FR24 indicates its scheduled 1500 arrival became 1655, 115 minutes late. Were the winds badly against it (see the net time loss) or am I missing something?

Apologies for the laziness, but the seven day Victorian lockdown has understandably meant a huge number of cancellations on Friday 28 May 2021 in and out of MEL.

Competitor VAd looked to have cancelled 24 of 59 flights ex MEL today, while on the northbound MEL - SYD sector, ZL cancelled two of its five.

QF1721, QantasLink BNE-HBA initially delayed in three increments due to missing a replacement crew member. Then swapped aircraft and whoops!!! that needs a tyre change, while the original craft goes to CBR.

HBA is at the end of the line, so a delay in the aircraft arriving only affects outbound pax ( no connections). So best to lump all the issues into that flight and keep the network flowing 😉

Most 'amusing' to those of us not using it, but probably not the word you'd use. FR24 suggests this 0910 hours ex BNE should depart at 1155. Happy travelling!

The return flight HBA - BNE, QF1720 is the 1240 hours that is suggested as departing mid afternoon at 1510. The northbound passengers may have connections though.

Reflecting the pariah status of Victorians (with three of the four lockdowns having been the Victorian Government's fault), on Sunday 30 May 2021, from SYD to MEL, QFd is cancelling 15 scheduled flights and only operating seven.

Very abnormally, VAd is operating eight and cancelling nine, so as far as a choice of departure times, VAd offers more today southbound.

I've not had a squiz as to whether any QFds are widebodies: if so, it may still have more seats available than VAd.

Separately, QF2256 and QF2250, respectively the 0905 hours and 1155 hours SYD - LDH have been cancelled, possibly due to adverse weather. Winds there are showing as 32kmh as at 1020 hours.

On Friday 4 June 2021, COVID-19 repatriation flight QF112 (B789 VH-ZNE) arrived in DRW (ex DEL) at 0910 hours, 10 minutes early but the 1020 hours departure for ADL saw takeoff at 1059 and arrival in Wine City at 1418 hours, 78 minutes late.

'The Australian' suggests that there were 'more than 145' on board upon ADL arrival.

This is the second time this week ZNE has been in DEL: the previous flight was QF106 DEL - PER, not to DRW/ADL. In between it ran empty PER - DRW as QF6123.

It may be just for operational convenience but where it can QFi seems to try to allocate one B789 for multiple consecutive repatration flights. This seems sensible, but inevitably maintenance requirements will see changeovers.
