Qantas Delays/Cancellations

On Wednesday 23 March 2022, QF10, the 1120 hours LHR - DRW was in the sky at 1143, about on time, but today (Thursday 24), arrival was 53 minutes late at 1438 hours. Takeoff on the second sector occurred at 1648, meaning a further delay, so tonight, MEL arrival for the aircraft (B789 VH-ZNI) is suggested as 2208 hours, 73 minutes behind schedule.

QF67 (the early morning 0610 hours SYD - ADL - DEL) is cancelled on Friday 25 March 2022. This has happened quite a lot since this flight and the return QF68 were initiated, although the situation has been somewhat better in the last month.

The poor timekeeping of the 'diverted to avoid Russia' QF10 continues despite the timetable having half an hour extra.

VH-ZNC on Friday 25 March took off from LHR at 1136, so about 5-10 minutes early, but DRW arrival on Saturday 26 was 1424 hours, 39 minutes tardy. The next leg saw takeoff at 1636 with a 58 minute late arrival in MEL at 2153 hours.

On Sunday 27, QF2 from LHR should arrive DRW at 1255 hours, 40 behind.

The SYD to JNB QF63 is mostly punctual or early arriving, but on Friday 25, VH_ZNK arrived 38 minutes late at 1553.

On Sunday 27 March 2022, QF179 (0930 hours SYD - NLK, B738 VH-XZE) did not become airborne until 1240 hours so arrival at 1552 was 162 minutes tardy. The aircraft had been in Sydney since arriving on QF102 (also ex NAN) in the early evening.

Today's morning delay meant QF180, the 1410 hours back to SYD was in the NAN sky at 1658, so expected at gate arrival has become 1828 hours, 148 minutes behind schedule.

Today's SYD Airport timetable online shows QF129 to PVG as 'cancelled' but while this may be so, AFAIK QAN hasn't yet resumed passenger flights to PVG (although regular A330 freight flights have run for months).

VH-ZNE on Saturday 26 March took off from LHR at 1012 hours, on time as QF2 but on Sunday 27 DRW arrival was 1301 hours, 46 minute slate. Takeoff for the second sector was at 1449 meaning SYD arrival became 37 late at 2012 hours.

QF16 (Saturday 26, the 2320 hours late night LAX down to BNE with A332 VH-EBQ) was airborne at 0019 on 27 March so BNE Monday 28 arrival should be 0744 hours, 59 minutes tardy.

The SYD (airport) site shows a stack of QFi "cancellations" that aren't these in the sense normally understod by travellers.

Instead, they're flights that at one stage last year QFi may have stated it would resume, but such a date has been deferred and resumption not again announced, sometimes due to nations such as mainland China continuing to close doors to most Australians.

For instance, QF161 at 0945 hours SYD - WLG displays as 'cancelled', as does QF127 at 1020 hours from SYD to HKG, QF41 to CGK at 1345 hours, QF73 SYD - SFO at 1925, QF25 to HND at 2055 and QF117 to HKG at 2125 hours. This isn't an exhaustive list.

QF7 SYD - DFW is showing as another 'cancelled' flight but AFAIK it still doesn't regularly depart SYD on Mondays.

It's a good picture as to what 'may have been' had QFi kept to its media announcements but travel demand for some nations is negligible given borders have not always reopened.

On Sunday 27 March 2022, QF2 was retimed to depart at 2105 hours instead of the normal 0950 hours. VH-ZNB took off at 2141 so on Monday 28, DRW arrival is estimated at 2305 hours, 35 minutes late on the amended schedule. UK time changed to British Summer Time on Sunday morning.

QF10, normally an 1120 hours LHR - DRW on Sunday 27 has been delayed overnight to an estimated pushback at 2000 hours on Monday 28, so DRW arrival should become 2130 on Tuesday 29, 1930 minutes tardy.

On Monday 28 March 2022, QF63 (which today became the 1035 hours SYD - JNB: previously 1015) has B789 VH-ZNK, taking off at 1135 with arrival suggested as 61 minutes late at 1646 hours.

It's unusual for 'the 63' to run late since it resumed, as is also the case for QF11 (1015 hours SYD - LAX, A388 VH-OQD) that took off at 1159 so arrival should be same day at 0650 hours.

Similarly, QF35 from MEL to SIN is usually punctual or early arriving at destination but today A333 VH-QPA on this 1305 hours flights (previously 1210, but the northern summer timetable has commenced) was airborne at 1418 so arrival at gate should be 1854, 39 minutes tardy.

QF23 was another late runner today with VH-QPI in the sky at 1241 instead of shortly after its 1050 timetabled pushback. Arrival looks to be 1746, 66 minutes late.

The delayed overnight Sunday 27 March 2022 1155 hours LHR - DRW - MEL QF10 departed London at 2011 on Monday 28 March, so DRW arrival should be at 2200 hours tonight, Tuesday 29. Pushback for MEL should occur at 2330 with Wednesday 30 estimated arrival at gate an earlybirds' 0510 hours. This aircraft may be VH_ZNI but FR24 isn't showing the flight, although there's a 'QF202' ex LHR with no actual (or timetabled) timings.

QF70, the Monday 28 March 1935 hours DEL - MEL was not airborne until 2059 so on Tuesay 29, arrival should be at about 1412 hours, 42 minutes tardy.

As QF23 was late yesterday, QF24 (1810 hours BKK - SYD, VH-QPI) took off at 1924 with SYD arrival on Tuesday 29 at 0830, an hour behind.

QF2, the changed timing of which saw it timetabled to depart LHR at 2105 hours on Monday 28 March was most unusually formed by 'ferry flight' QF6011 that ran from JED to LHR after presumably operating a Grand Prix special from SYD. VH-ZNA arrived LHR at 0640 hours (only five minutes late) on Monday, and took off at 2155. DRW arrival tonight (Tuesday 29) should be at 2318 hours, 48 minutes late.

QF10 from LHR (also Monday 28) was the 1155 hours airborne at 1226 with VH-ZNH, so DRW arrival today(Tuesday 29) was at 1410 hours, 50 minutes late. It then took off at 1553 with estimated MEL arrival at 2110, 40 behind.

QF64 from JNB across to SYD arrived at 1504 hours on Tuesday 29, 39 minutes late and quickly formed QF1, the 1645 hours SYD - DRW - LHR taking off at a delayed 1739, although allegedly DRW arrival should only be 26 late at 2006 in tonight's early evening.

Currently sat on the ground for 45mina on QF783 yet to leave due to lack of baggage handlers yet to load the aircraft
Pilot very apologetic but can’t give much update as due to the groundstaff
Outsourcing is so great on paper

With BNK airport having received 93 millinetres of rain in an hour today, it won't surprise that all flights (such as SYD to BNK's QF2060, 2064 and 2066) have been cancelled. Favourite destination Byron (Bay) has its main street under water.

Also on Wednesday 30 March 2022, QF23 (A333 VH-QPE, the 1050 hours SYD - BKK) did not become airborne until 1223 hours, so suggested arrival is 1734, 54 minutes tardy.

QF2, which has become a night departure ex LHR at 2015 took off at 2155 on Wednesday 30 March 2022 with B789 VH-ZND. DRW arrival on Thursday 31 should be at 2322 hours, 52 minutes late.

A332 VH-EBV on QF70, the Wednesday 30 1935 hours DEL - MEL overnight was not airborne until 2047 hours, so arrival on Thursday 31 shoudl be at about 1421 hours, 51 behind.

VH-ZNJ on Wednesday's QF7 took off from SYD at 1751, about 50 minutes late with DFW same day arrival suggested as 1645 hours, 45 minutes tardy.

QF11, the 1015 hours SYD - LAX is unusually delayed until 1245 hours this afternoon - Thursday 31 March 2022.

UPDATE: A388 VH-OQD took off very late at 1534 hours mid afternoon, with same day LAX arrival estimated as 1041 hours, 281 minutes behind schedule. Since resumption, QF11 (and 'the 12' returning) have not often been late, unlike the seasonal, temporarily (?) discontinued QF67/68 SYD-ADL-DEL-SYD flights.

On April Fools' Day, 1 April 2022, QF179 (B738 VH-VZZ, the 0930 hours SYD - NLK) was not airborne until 1103 hours, so estimated arrival is 65 minutes tardy at 1415. The aircraft had arrived in SYD last night at 2216 hours as QF498 from MEL, so in theory if weather is OK in NLK, plenty of time in SYD to load passengers, freight and mail.

A333 VH-QPD on QF143 (0930 hours SYD - AKL) was in the sky at 1059 hours so a 1542 arrival is likely, which would be 67 minutes late.

Continuing with Friday 1 April 2022, QF19 (1330 hours SYD - MNL) is delayed to an expected departure at 1415.

UPDATE: A333 VH-QPI took off at 1450 so a 1936 hours arrival, 46 minutes late, is expected.

The SYD airport website claims that QF7 to DFW was 'cancelled' on Friday 1 April 2022 but AFAIK at the moment this flight doesn't operate on Fridays ex Australia.

Maybe at one stage QFi had suggested it would but the Sydney Airport personnel haven't scrubbed it from the departures list.

Thursday 31 March 2022's QF2, the 2105 hours mid evening LHR - DRW - SYD was delayed overnight, departing instead at 1203 hours on Friday 1 April with B789 VH-ZNG airborne at 1227 hours, the flight number changing to QF202. DRW arrival should be at about 1345 on Saturday 2 April, 915 minutes late.

On Saturday 2 April, this very late inbound will delay departure of QF75 to YVR to close to curfew time as VH-ZNG appears to also be operating the latter.
