Qantas Delays/Cancellations

QF7, the 1540 hours Thursday 19 May 2022 SYD - DFW is delayed in departure to an expected 1620, as the aircraft B789 VH-ZNK is operating QF64 from JNB to SYD that isn't predicted to arrive at its gate until 1442 hours, 82 minutes late, as last night it took off on this 1735 hours flight at 1908 hours.

B738 VH-VZY on QF151 (0915 hours morning Thursday 19 May MEL - AKL) was delayed despite the aircraft arriving only seven minutes late at 0822 hours on QF152 ex AKL. 'The 151' was airborne at 1029 with at gate AKL arrival becoming 1537 hours, 47 minutes late.

As a result QF126, the scheduled 1555 hours mid afternoon AKL - BNE took off at 1714 for suggested arrival at around 1834 hours, 49 minutes late.

QF64 ended up arriving at 1452, 92 late with QF7 taking off at 1706 hours: same day DFW arrival at gate is likely to be at about 1648, 48 minutes behind the eight ball.

QF10, 19 May's 1450 hours DRW - MEL has B789 VH-ZND and was airborne at 1613 so arrival in MEL is estimated as 2030 hours mid evening, an hour behind schedule. It had arrived DRW from LHR at 1258 hours today, 22 early so goodness knows why it spent excess time in the NT.

Saturday 21 of May sees QF96 LAX-MEL (B789 VH-ZNH) divert your HNL for a medical emergency. The flight refueled and departed HNL at 6 47 local time. There’s a further diversion to BNE due to crew change. The provisional arrival is at 14 55

Hope the passenger is okay in HNL... no one wants to be in medical emergency especially in a flight middle of the ocean :(

Consequent on the delay to QF96 (B789 VH-ZNH), tonight's QF9 MEL-DRW-LHR to be operated by the same aircraft, is currently showing a 1 hour 50 minute delay

The Saturday evening 21:05 BST London departure of the 789 operated QF2 has been delayed just under 11 hours, now being shown to depart 0800 BST today. With a 20 minute shortening of the Darwin stopover, eta Sydney now expected to be 15:45 AET Monday

Today's QF1 delayed until 7am tomorrow (Tuesday 24/5).
While the first QF1 sector to DRW has been now been completed, Qantas Flight Status is showing the onwards sector to LHR has been delayed until 9:10 pm (ACT) this evening (a full 24 hour delay). This has consequent flow on delays to QF2. Further, the next rotation is currently showing a 23 hour delay.

Likely connected with the above significant disruption to QF1/QF2, on Wednesday 25 May 2022, QF7, the 1540 hours SYD - DFW has been cancelled.

Tuesday 24's QF10 is expected to depart LHR with B789 VH-ZNA at 1230 hours, 35 minutes late. Inbound on QF9 via PER (no longer DRW), on Monday 23, the flight arrived in PER at 1745, half an hour late and then overstayed, taking off at 2027 hours for arrival at its LHR gate this morning at 0658 hours, 113 minutes late.

The Monday 23 May 2022 QF1 took off from DRW at 2125 on Tuesday 24, so expected LHR arrival on Wednesday 25 for B789 VH-ZNF is 0557 hours, 1402 minutes late.

Monday's QF2 arrived SYD at 0546 hours, 36 minutes late with VH-ZNK.

The Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25 QF2s from LHR are both expected to depart at 0800 the following morning, 655 minutes late. Having to rise at one's hotel at 0400 (or earlier) doesn't thrill, but at least it's spring not winter in the UK.

VH-ZNA on the 'resumed via PER' QF10 should arrive at PER at 1214 hours, 34 minutes late on Wednesday 25.

VH-ZNC on QF63 arrived JNB at 1628 hours, 48 minutes late on Tuesday 24, and then took off on the 1740 hours JNB - SYD redeye at 1840. Arrival in SYD today is predicted as 1418 hours, 53 minutes tardy.

QF69 (the 0815 hours MEL - ADL - DEL) today is delayed until 0900 in its pushback.

The 1545 hours SYD - DRW - LHR QF1 scheduled for 24 May has been delayed overnight until an expected SYD pushback at 1455 this afternoon, Wednesday 25.

B738 VH-XZJ on the seasonal 0940 hours SYD - ZQN took off at 1050 hours, so expected at gate arrival becomes 1525, 55 minutes late. On Monday 23, which may have been the first QF121 since COVID hit, XZB arrived at 1555 hours, 85 late.

Perennial late runner QF143, similar at 0930 hours but to AKL from SYD, took off at a much delayed 1201 hours so arrival at 1635 mid to late this arvo is the expectation, an even two hours late. A333 VH-QPE is the aircraft so it may mean an international flight ex SYD is tonight delayed, as 'the 146' back across the Tasman can't help being tardy. Tonight's QF103 (1925 hours SYD - HNL) is displaying as delayed in pushing back until 2035. The aircraft had come in from BKK at 0730 this morning into SYD, an hour behind, as QF24.

A332 VH-EBP on QF69 was as above expected to depart 45 late at 0900 from MEL, but this became takeoff at 0936 hours. The stop in ADL commenced at 1014 hours with takeoff from the vintners' city at 1139 meaning likely DEL arrival of 1927 hours, 87 late. The 1935 hours DEL - MEL nonstop will be delayed in pushback until at least 2105.

B789 VH-ZNJ on QF63 (0935 hours SYD - JNB) was airborne at 1044 for suggested at gate arrival of 1620 hours, 40 minutes behind schedule.

QF161, the 0940 hours SYD - WLG is predicted to depart three hours late. From the broef weather description, weather in Wellington may be benign.

A388 VH-OQD arrived this morning in SYD ex LAX on QF12 a creditable 23 early at 0632 hours, but QF11, the 1015 hours SYD - LAX did not become airborne until 1223, so suggested at gate arrival is 90 minutes late at 0830 hours, same day.

Continuing with Wednesday 25 May, QF19 (lunchtime 1230 hours SYD up to MNL) has A333 VH-QPD. It took off at 1327 hours so arrival should be 1923 hours, 33 minutes behind, ensuring that QF20 (2035 hours back down to SYD) will depart late.

B789 VH-ZNK looks to be on today's (25 May) QF1 from SYD at 1545 hours to DRW and on to LHR. It departed at 1648. This plane had been in SYD since arriving this morning on QF2.

The 24 hours delayed QF1D has stablemate VH-ZNC: it pushed back at 1629, 1484 minutes late, promptly taking off at 1641 hours. This aircraft arrived in SYD today at 1420 hours, 55 late as QF64 overnight from JNB, so has pretty much had a minimum (time) turnaround.

Tuesday 24's overnight delayed QF2 from LHR was meant to depart at 0800 hours local time (1700 AEST today) but I can't see it displaying on the FR24 map yet.

UPDATE: The latter flight from LHR is B789 VH-ZNF. It became visible on FR24 before 0832 local time (1732 AEST).

QF149, the 25 May 1915 hours early evening SYD - AKL is expected to depart an hour late while the 1925 hours to CHC, QF139, is far worse as it is suggested as pushing back tonight at 2215 hours, 170 minutes tardy, making for an uncomfortable arrival time in Christchurch give3n the two hour time difference.

The overnight delayed QF2 (B789 VH-ZNF) departed LHR at 0846 hours local time, 701 minutes late. It was airborne at 0903. At a guess, it should be in SYD (assuming no excess time in Darwin) at about 1615 - 1645 hours on Thursday 26 May.

'Herald Sun' online is reporting that MEL is in chaos due to a complete power failure, throwing the airport into darkness.

There are photos of check-ins, with one appearing to show some emergency lighting operating (from a ceiling?)

The article says that up to 17000 passengers could be affected (but this must include inbound and outbound, and seems a lot for this time of the evening). Apparently up to 20000 nearby homes (suburbs such as Essendon) have been affected.

Airline delays appear to be building, and at least one flight (QF486, 1900 hours MEL - SYD) has been cancelled.

Most of us wouldn't normally pack a torch for a domestic trip, I'd hazard to suggest.

QF1D (the Tuesday 24 May overnight delayed QF1, B789 VH-ZNC) was in DRW from 2012 on Wednesday 25 to 2200 hours, so on Thursday 26, LHR arrival should be at 0710, 1475 minutes late.

The Wednesday departure from SYD (VH-ZNK) is almost like a railway 'double-header' or an articulated truck, operating to similar times, having been in DRW last night from 2031 to 2247 hours, with arrival suggested as 0715, 40 late in LHR.

QF7 on Thursday 26 is expected to depart SYD at 1715, 95 minutes late. as it is being formed by the overnight delayed QF2 from LHR and DRW with VH-ZNF. However FR24 suggests QF2 won't arrive DRW this morning local times until 1007 hours so if departure became 1135, the forecast delay to today's QF7 is likely to be greater than '1715 hours'.

QF24 from BKK to SYD overnight had A333 VH-QPC, arriving this morning at 0712 hours, 42 late after taking off at 1908 last night, 58 minutes after scheduled pushback at 1810.

Collleague QPE yesterday operated QF103 (1925 hours SYD up to HNL) that took off at 2146 hours, arriving at 1109, 119 minutes late. This was due to the aircraft arriving in SYD last night at 1950, 120 late on QF146 ex AKL.

Wednesday's QF64, the 1740 hours from JNB with B789 VH-ZNJ was airborne at 1910 so arrival today in SYD is predicted for 1440 mid afternoon, 75 minutes late.

A332 VH-EBP on yesterday's QF69 arrived DEL at 1907, 67 late and then departed as QF70 from DEL to MEL operating to a changed timetable. The scheduled departure has become 2005 hours, not 1935: it took off at 2123 so this afternoon's at gate arrival should be 1342, 42 late.

A388 on the 24 May QF12 ex LAX took off at 0014 on Wednesday so arrival this morning was 52 minutes late at 0747 hours. In theory, QF11 (1015 hours to LAX) ought not be delayed.

I had overestimated the delay to the overnight delayed QF2(D), which with B789 VH-ZNF arrived DRW at 0958 on Thursday 26 May and then took off at 1133, thus shortening the allocated ground time. SYD arrival should be at 1550 hours, 640 minutes late.

It remains difficult to see the 1540 hours QF7 from SYD to DFW pushing back by 1715.
