Qantas Delays/Cancellations

In more on Monday 17 July, QF82 from SIN (unusually A388 VH-OQB) is arriving SYD at 0935 hours, 190 minutes late after yesterday operating QF81.

It looks like on Saturdays this return trip becomes an A380, as it's also displaying for next weekend.
 
'The Oz' reports that this morning screening did not occur properly early in the morning at the QFd terminal in Melbourne, so rescreening had to occur after the passenger who wasn't was located.

One resultant delay appears to have been A332 VH-EBJ on QF410, the 0700 hours MEL-SYD airborne at 0751 with gate arrival becoming 0903 hours, 38 minutes late. QF416 (0745 hours MEL-SYD) was cancelled.
 
So will be 2 QF1’s departing within an hour of each other at Syd this arvo and 1/2 hr at Sin tonight. Which should be interesting at Check in and lounges. I’m on QF100d but app still says Qf1…
 
Continuing with Monday 17 July 2023, QF11, the nicely timed midmorning SYD to LAX at 1020 hours ended up pushing back with A388 VH-OQB at 1426 in the early to mid afternoon. Same day gate arrival should be approximately 1054 hours, 229 minutes late, as OQB had arrived very late from SIN as 'the 82'.

This morning colleague OQL arrived in SYD creditably 10 minutes early at 0710 hours on QF12 from LAX. It formed an empty working to MEL, taking off from SYD as QF6001 at the memorable time of 1111 hours to arrive at 1225 hours.

It then had the impossible task of operting on time the 1200 'high noon' MEL up to SIN QF35, which took off at 1442 hours. Arrival is suggested as 151 late at 2031 hours mid evening in the Lion City. As a result the 2015 hours SIN-MEL QF36 (with OQL) is estimated to push back 125 late at 2220 hours, perhaps slightly optimistic. QF35/36 appear to have become an A388 three days/night each week, with an A333 or A332 on duty for another three nights but no flights once a week, so now down to six departures each way a week, albeit with higher seating capacity than 7 x A332/333s.

Yes, QF1D departed SYD at 1634 hours on Monday 17 July 2023 with A388 VH-OQI, 1534 minutes later than its scheduled 1510 hours Sunday 16 pushback. It was airborne at about 1651.

Monday's QF1 (OQH as you report) pushed back at 1535 hours, on time, took off at 1555 and should arrive SIN 20 late at 2150 hours local time. With the '1D' pulling in about an hour later, for a brief time the lounge(s) may have more than their usual complement in the late evening.

I’m currently in downtown Singapore, planning on enjoying the F lounge from about 8:30pm till the first QF1 lands and then running away whilst the lounge goes crazy to enjoy the delights of Changi airport until the second one leaves we me on it 😂
 
Also on Monday 17, QF10, the 1155 hours LHR-PER-MEL is estimated to push back in London 80 late at 1315 hours with B789 VH-VNG that earlier arruved as QF9 at 0447 hours, 18 early.

A388 VH-OQD on the LAX-SYD '12' shoudl arrive on Tuesday 18 at about 0816 hours, 31 late.

QF51, the 1030 hours BNE-SIN is unusually cancelled on Tuesday 18. Normally this flight is reliable and pretty much on time.

In 1st lounge now, already fairly busy at 8pm, wontons and salt and pepper on route! Also, confirmed BOTH boarding cards printed with QF1, not QF100d. Could be interesting in a few hours…

On Saturday, QF37/38 is operating a return service between Melbourne and Singapore.
 
On Tuesday 18 July 2023, QF10, the LHR-PER express daily, should arrive at its gate at 1327 hours, 107 late as yesterday the 1155 departure ex LHR was delayed to takeoff at 1402 hours. B789 VH-ZNG is the aircraft.

This will mean a departure from PER at around 1505 so likely arrival in MEL becomes not the 1840 hours scheduled, but around 2030 hours. QF93 is displaying as on time so perhaps it's not being formed by 'the 10'?

QF11 on Wednesday 19 July, the 1020 hours midmorning SYD-LAX is showing as delayed until 1830 in the early evening, presumably because its A380 is on the 12 hour delayed QF2 LHR-SIN-SYD that has yet to depart the UK, given the two A388s (QF1 and QF1D) remain enroute between SIN and LHR.
 
On Monday 17 July 2023, QF25, the mid evening 2020 redeye from SYD up to Japan's HND was delayed overnight. It is expected to depart at 0940 hours this morning (18 July) with A333 VH-QPJ that arrived in Sydney last night at 1911 hours, 31 minutes late as the usual QF104 ex troublesome for aircraft delays HNL.

This will see mooted gate arrival in HND at 1850 this evening, 805 minutes late, but still (in theory) in plenty of time to form a punctual 2200 hours QF26 redeye back down to SYD if that's its next trip.

Looks like QF2 (VH-OQI) did a turn-around over Prague and returned back to LHR - anyone knows why?

I was on the ill fated QF2 flight.. We got as far as Budapest and then Capt informed us that 2 Navigation systems had failed and he was not prepared to proceed. So we returned back to LHR landing about 1.30am.... at which point a S%^T storm occurred.. Obviously the curfew was in effect so no one around.. There was 3-4 people trying to manage a fully loaded A380 of people and placing them into hotels.....which due to . the saga continues....

The overnight delayed QF2 (operating now as QF2D I assume) took off from LHR on Tuesday 18 July 2023 at 1024 hours local time, with SIN arrival on Wednesday 19 expected at the early hour of 0518 hours, 708 minutes behind schedule. Aircraft is VH-OQH, not OQI that operated QF1D, so essentially an aircraft swap.
 
QF11 on Wednesday 19 July, the 1020 hours midmorning SYD-LAX is showing as delayed until 1830 in the early evening, presumably because its A380 is on the 12 hour delayed QF2 LHR-SIN-SYD that has yet to depart the UK, given the two A388s (QF1 and QF1D) remain enroute between SIN and LHR.
Further to this the scheduled 23:40 Monday 17 July QF12 LAX-SYD is showing as delayed overnight until 12:50 on Tuesday 18 July. This is despite two A380s VH-OQB & VH-OQK being in LAX already. Perhaps there is an issue with these two aircraft and the currently enroute to LAX QF11 A380 VH-OQD will turn around to operate the delayed Monday QF12 service upon its projected Tuesday 18 July 07:40 arrival.

As such with both QF2 and QF12 operating with significant delays there will now be no A380s in Sydney on Wednesday 19 July until the projected delayed arrivals of QF2 at 16:30 and QF12 at 20:00.

Due to these above delays the Wednesday 19 July QF11 is showing a delayed 18:30 departure and QF1 is showing a delayed 2200 departure.

The overnight delayed QF2D departed SIN at 0751 hours on Wednesday 19 July 2023 with SYD arrival estimated at 1725 hours late this afternoon, 735 minutes late.

Given it's forming the 1020 hours SYD-LAX QF11, the displaying pushback time of 1830 hours is mythical. More like 1930 or later tonight. If it can be airborne by 2000 tonight, then LAX arrival should be at around 1600 hours on Wednesday 19 July.

A388 VH-OQK is further delayed on 'the 12' from LAX down to SYD, with gate arrival showing as 2059 hours, 794 minutes late. It would be very surprising if QF1 (the 1510 hours SYD-SIN-LHR) was able to depart at what's now showing as '2230 hours' on FR24 (not otchi's earlier advice of '2200') with pushback at 2300 hours or beyond probable.

IIRC, although the curfew is '2300 hours', the test is whether a flight has pushed back by 2245 hours. If not, then a dispensation must be obtained from the delegate of the Minister through the Federal Transport Department. Mostly, dispensations are granted, even some dubious ones where for the life of me I can't always see that they've satisfied the supposed legislative preconditions.
 
A332 VH-EBS on the 0905 hours SYD-BLR on 19 July 2023 was airborne at 1014 so expected gate arrival becomes 1710 hours, 50 minutes tardy.

Because QF63 yesterday arrived JNB at 1637 hours, 62 minutes late, B789 VH-ZNE on the 1740 hours JNB-SYD QF64 did not take off until 1918 hours, meaning Wednesday 19 SYD gate arrival is likely at 1435 hours, 70 behind. It will form QF7, the mid afternoon 1540 hours SYD-DFW supposedly departing at 1600 hours, but more likely to be around 1615. A timely Texan arrival remains possible.

Todays (19/7/23) QF1 is now showing as delayed overnight with a new Thursday 20th of July at 06:45 in the morning departure loaded in.
