Qantas Delays/Cancellations

It is OQJ again. Must be more time to get maintenance clearance after it went unserviceable on Monday and couldn’t operate QF11.

EDIT: further pushed back to tomorrow afternoon now. @Melburnian1

Oh dear. This has to affect future other flights.

Also on Wednesday 2 October 2024, A332 VH-EBN on QF41, the 1355 hours early afternoon SYD up to CGK is estimated to shortly depart at 1630 hours. This will mean the overnight QF42 back to Sydney is also tardy.

UPDATE: QF41 was in the air at 1649 so CGK gate arrival should be about 2105 hours, 125 minutes behind schedule. The returning QF42 (the 2045 hours) may depart at around the 2235 hours mark so SYD gate arrival tomorrow morning could be at 0800 hours, 70 minutes late.

Tomorrow’s QF11 is delayed until 9.35pm. I suspect OQJ is taking the 9.35pm flight and the inbound QF64 will operate the almost 24 hour delayed QF11.

I have only just noticed that this morning's 1155 hours QF93 from MEL to LAX was cancelled.

QF94, the LAX to MEL scheduled 2150 hours B789 on Wednesday 2 October is expected to push back on Thursday 3 at 1040 hours midmorning USA west coast time, arriving MEL at 1920 hours on Friday 4 instead of 0645 hours, so 755 minutes late.

Friday 4's 1155 hours QF93 (MEL to LAX) is very optimistically predicted to depart at 2045 hours mid evening.

The A380 and B789 QFi fleets are not having a good run. It doesn't take many cancellations or significant delays for a few thousand passengers to be affected.

Morning update on QF128 from HKG using QPG- the flight had a 2 hr delay despite arriving as 127 on time to HKG…

Actual take off from HKG was 2131 instead of 1930 and 63 mins late - now arriving at 0758

Also QF 163 SYD to WLG on 737(XZL) caused some news yesterday with foul smell and returned - causing a crew member in hospital

The overnight delayed QF11 was to instead depart on Thursday 3 October at 1635 hours, but this has been further put back to 1745 late this afternoon.

So today, the 2 October flight is to be slightly more than 24 hours late while today's A388 should depart four hours late at 2135 mid evening.

The overnight delayed 1840 hours SYD-WLG QF163 (see tomlee1986's post above) is predicted to depart at 1300 hours this afternoon with gate arrival at 1905 hours, 1090 minutes behind schedule.

QF162, the 0705 hours morning Thursday 3 WLG-SYD is forecast to push back at 1950 tonight - a very quick, perhaps unachievable 45 minute turnaround - for arrival at gate in SYD at 2015 hours.

QF64 on Thursday 3 October (A388 VH-OQB) is arriving SYD (ex JNB) at 1514 hours, 39 late given it was del;ayed out of Sydney yesterday.

In more on Thursday 4, A332 VH_EBN on the 0930 hours MEL-DEL (QF69) pointed skywards at 1040 so a 1901 hours arrival at gate, 66 minutes tardy, is the expectation. The A332 had arrived in Melbourne from Jakarta as QF42 at 0726, 61 late, and then had a slow turnaround.

A333 VH-QPH arrived in SYD on Thursday 4 at 0912 hours, 17 minutes late as QF60 from HND. It is forming a delayed QF59 back to Tokyo that is predicted to depart mid afternoon at 1530 hours, 260 minutes behind schedule. The 2200 hours late evening QF60 from HND to SYD is forecast to push back at 0120 hours on Friday 4 as a consequence, meaning SYD arrival probably after 1130 hours tomorrow instead of 0855.

Updating the QF11 situation - normally the 1735 hours late afternoon A388 from SYD to LAX:

(a) Wednesday 2 October's is now displaying as a 1935 hours Thursday 3 departure i.e. 26 hours late

(b) Thursday 3 October's QF11 has been cancelled. IIRC this wasn't apparent earlier today.

QF94 from LAX to MEL on Wednesday 2 October (the 2150 hours ex Los Angeles) is further delayed to an expected pushback at 1100 local time on Thursday 3. FR24 suggests the plane will be B789 VH-ZNL.

Much rebooking onto other flights must be occurring.

Although October is not peak season for travel to and from the USA, school holidays usually mean a greater number of bookings as some sneak away to see relatives, or the affluent take their offspring to Disneyland and other attractions. I'd be surprised if bookings were not heavy.

Well Friday’s QF11 has one economy and 2 first available.

Continuing with Thursday 3 October, the 1025 hours QF34 from CDG down to PER departed at 1103. Friday 4 gate arrival looks to be 0949 hours, 54 late. This will delay the second sector across to Sydney.

Watching SydSquad live, passengers reporting yesterday's QF11D and today's QF11 (now cancelled) have effectively combined any remaining pax.

QF59 is expected to depart at 2035 rather than 1530, so it will be at least 565 minutes late with a likely HND arrival at about 0600 tomorrow morning (Friday 4 October). Aircraft has switched from A333 VH-QPH to QPD. The latter arrived SYD tonight at 1900 hours, five minutes early, as the daytime QF26 from HND.

A388 VH-OQB took off on the overnight delayed QF11 on Thursday 3 October at 2049 from SYD. Same day LAX arrival is estimated as 1705 hours, 1605 minutes late.

The 2020 hours QF25 (A333 class leader VH-QPA) from SYD to HND departed at just after 2100 hours:.

The daytime flight QF59 (the scheduled 1110 hours ex SYD, VH-QPD) is finally showing on the FR24 map, but is behind 'the 25' so the unusual situation of passengers on the overnight flight arriving before what's meant to be the day flight is occurring.

If the federal government brings in this passenger compensation scheme that they have mooted then Qantas will need to employ a whole bunch of interns to process the claims.

Due to the initial CDG-PER sector of QF34 being late - expected at its gate at 0953 hours tomorrow - the second leg to SYD is optimistically
expected to push back on Friday 4 October at 1110 hours. 1125 or later is more likely. B789 VH-ZNJ has the task.

Wednesday 2 October's QF94, the 2150 hours, took off at 1149 hours from LAX on Thursday 3 with B789 VH-ZNK. MEL arrival should be 1941 hours, 776 minutes late.

Due to this late running, Friday 4's QF93 (1155 hours MEL-LAX) is projected to depart at 2110 hours mid evening.

A333 VH-QPD on QF59 from SYD to HND arrived this morning at 0537 hours, 567 minutes behind schedule. QF60 back down to SYD, the Thursday 3 2200 hours flight is showing as an 0655 hours departure (535 minutes late) but this is a tad optimistic.

B789 VH-ZND on the 1155 hours LHR down to PER (QF10) was airborne at 1229 hours on Thursday 3 with Friday 4 gate arrival likely 70 minutes late at 1250 hours. It has flown via Saudi Arabia that may be longer and more southerly than its usual route, but others will know more about the latter.

QF29 today on 04/10/2024 is delayed on QPE - scheduled to depart at 1020, but now only pushed back at 1145 - the delay is perhaps with the strong wind in Melbourne today? as the aircraft arrived as QF 30 this morning at 0630 approx... therefore unless other factors at play, shouldn't be this delayed...

Update: took off at 1156, and now scheduled to be 1 hr late arriving at 1900

There goes a few people's connections in HKG - again!

In further on Friday 4 October, QF295, the 0950 hours midmorning from SYD to BKK (A333 OH-LTS) was in the sky at 1049 with gate arrival likely at 1725, 45 minutes late for this wet-leased aircraft and crew.

A333 VH-QPG on the 1225 hours lunchtime QF19 from SYD to MNL did not take off until 1331. Gate arrival should be 1927 hours, 37 minutes late.
