Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Edit : In view of AFFr milehighclub's earlier comment re ZNM, I don't have a crystal ball, so no idea what will happen to this evening's QF93 MEL-LAX, which is currently not showing a delay.
In fact, tonight's QF93 is ZNM's inaugural revenue service! :)
 
Continuing with Saturday 10 June, A333 VH-QPJ has been in SYD since 0859 hours this morning (arriving nine minutes late as QF26 overnight from Japan's HND) but this hasn't stopped tonight's QF25 back to HND (the 2020 hours) from running late, with pushback expected at 2110 hours, 50 late.

This morning, QF25 arrived at Haneda at 0641 hours, 76 minutes behind the timetable.
 
Meanwhile VH-ZNC is operating the Saturday QF9 MEL-PER sector, and thus will presumably turn around to take the delayed QF10 back to Melbourne.
Curious.
Positioned up to Sydney this morning so maybe there was some maintenance required that didnt stop it flying the PER-MEL sector but it couldn't operate back to LHR.
 
Two of the last three late night arrivals for QF72 at PER (ex SIN) have been very late.

On Friday 9 June, A332 VH-EBM arrived at 0217 hours, 147 minutes later than the scheduled 8 June's 2350 hours.

This morning (Sunday 11), EBJ pulled in at 0131 hours.
 
QF23 from SYD to BKK, a nicely timed day flight, has been punctual in recent weeks but Sunday 11 June is an exception, with this 0950 hours scheduled departure not airborne until 1202 hours. A333 VH-QPG is estimated to arrive at gate at 1831 hours, 111 minutes late.

QF24 is displaying as a 1930 hours departure but this is optimistic. My guess (if 1831 is the arrival time at gate) is about 2000-2010.
 
Sunday's QF7 SYD-DFW (B789 VH-ZNK) has just pushed back in Sydney 45 minutes late. As yet it's too soon to see what the delay into Dallas might be.

FR24 says it'l;l arrive five minutes late at the DFW gate at 1610 hours, same day (i.e. today). The aircraft had arrived 45 late at 1410 hours this afternoon as QF64 from JNB, but the generous turnaround timetabled means 'the 7' should be, in the end at its long haul destination, unaffected by tardy running.
 
B789 VH-ZNI on the PER-LHR QF9 should arrive this morning British summer time at 0546 hours, 41 late.

Colleague VPG was on QF24, the redeye from BKK that pulled into its SYD gate this morning (Monday 12 June, King's Birthday) at 0731 hours, 66 minutes behind time.

QFi's second newest plane, ZNL, came in on 'the 8' from DFW to SYD at 0646 hours, 31 minutes late, despite on Saturday night taking off at 2255, only 25 minutes post the scheduled pushback of 2230 and hence at that stage on time. The winds must be adverse.

ZNJ is on QF10 from LHR to PER that took off yesterday at 1234 hours, only about 10-15 minutes late, but whose arrival at gate in PER should be today at about 1216 hours, 36 behind.

Last night (Sunday 11), 'the 104' from HNL was again delayed, arriving with A333 VH-QPE at 2007 hours. It then as is often the case formed QF25, the 2020 hours mid evening SYD-HND redeye that was airborne at 2206 for arrival this morning in Japan at 0626 hours, 66 down.

Also on Sunday 11, QF37 (thrice weekly MEL-SIN as a second stringer) had A332 VH-EBM, with this 1600 hours flight airborne at 1635 (about 15 late) but arriving SIN at 2240 hours, 40 down. However the returning flight, QF38, should only be about 12 late into MEL this morning at approximately 0907 hours.

Sunday's QF8 DFW-SYD (B789 VH-ZNE) was 22 minutes late pushing back, and is expected into Sydney on Tuesday morning at 06:46 AEST, 31 minutes late.

Meanwhile VH-ZNK which brought QF7 into Dallas, was only 5 minutes late pushing back with Sunday's QF22 DFW-MEL, however ground delays will see it arriving in Melbourne at 06:56 AEST Tuesday, 91 minutes late.

This flight made up time to land at 12:03 AWST, 23 minutes late, with the onwards QF10 sector to MEL pushing back at 13:36 AWST, 26 minutes late. The originally posted 30 minute delay is still showing for the Melbourne arrival at 19:10 AEST later this afternoon.
 
Continuing with 12 June 2023, QF103 arrived from SYD at HNL on Saturday 11 morning as QF103 at 1006 hours, 19 minutes early, but 'the 104' southbound didn't take off until 1248 hours, so SYD arrival will be 1917 hours, 37 late, as the aircraft has just landed as I write.

This is optimistically only delaying QF25 (2020 hours SYD up to HND) by a claimed 10 minutes in pushback. Hard to see how it will be off blocks much before 2100 AEST.

VH-ZNK clearly used up too much fuel during the ground delay, and QF22 was diverted to Brisbane. After 95 minutes on ground, it resumed the flight to Melbourne, but turned around and is back in Brisbane. Qantas Flight Status is showing a projected 14:20 AEST arrival into Melbourne, which will be 8 hours 55 minutes late.
 
On Friday 9 June, QF139 SYD-CHC was delayed leaving Sydney. According to my TripIt, it left SYD at 20:46 vs a planned departure time of 18:55.

Fog in CHC meant a sharp detour, and ATC sent us to WLG as the weather was clear there, and AKL apparently has a curfew on Sat and Mon mornings. An Air NZ flight was also diverted to WLG. I thought another QF flight had been diverted, but maybe not. Landed in WLG around 2am local time (vs planned arrival into CHC of 2359).

We had to deplane in WLG and luckily were allowed to enter the country. We were HLO as it was a short weekend hop, and got upstairs into the terminal quite quickly. Didn't hear an announcement that was made downstairs in the luggage/arrivals area.

Checkin for QF opened at 4am, the usual 6am flight WLG-SYD was delayed to 840 or so. When the queue for the CHC diversion got really long, I found out we all had to manually check in, even without luggage. And I had to use the special CHC diversion queue, not the Business/priority line. :mad: Not happy, but sucked it up and stood in the queue for 1hr. Eventually checked in, got a NZD20 voucher each to use in the terminal (anywhere but the sushi shop). There was one bakery open and we needed sleep, not food or drink (after FLounging and being in J).

Eventually board around 6:30, strictly by rows from the back of the aircraft to the front. NO priority boarding allowed. We were a little concerned being in row 1. Left around 7:15-7:30, a few pax didn't board including at least one who had checked in luggage??!!

Finally got to our hotel in CHC at about 8:30am and crashed. Thanks, Hilton for saying we were no shows and not crediting one night of the stay.

It doesn't appear to have yet left BNE, perhaps unsurprising given it turned back.

The QF 'flight status' page merely says the BNE-MEL sector is 'delayed', code for 'we don't yet know when it'll pushback.'

The 1505 hours MEL-PER initial sector of QF9 on Tuesday 13 June is displaying as likely to commence at 1600 hours, 55 late. I don't know if this is meant to be VNK, but it's possible, as 789nerd's suggestion of a '1420 hours arrival' marries with what 'computer often says' about a B789 turnaround:about 100 minutes.

QF93, the evening 2025 hours MEL-LAX is normally formed by the arriving QF10 that is expected to only be 26 minutes late into PER, so that should occupy colleague VNI tonight.

QF2 from LHR on Monday 12 (the 2055 hours) took off at 2328 hours with A388 VH-OQB, so arrival should be at about 1929 hours tonight local time in SIN, 119 minutes tardy, making anything less than 90 minutes late on blocks in SYD tomorrow as unlikely.

A great, comprehensive report: thank you, though you and (hubby?) might well have wanted to 'grate' (grind) your teeth.

I hope the weekend post-delay was enjoyable, but it was a classic example of a delay not long enough to pop you in an hotel in WLG, but of sufficient length to be really peeving. However, fog's a part of weather many like (you may not have at this time).

Also on Tuesday 13, B789 class leader VH-ZNA arrived in SYD 45 minutes tardy at 1410 hours as QF64 but thanks to the generous layover, its next flight, QF7 to DFW sees it expected to land same day eight minutes early at 1557 hours in DFW.
