Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Looks like EBB has fallen ill in SYD after ferrying over from MEL resulting in the 24h delay for QF41.

There is also a 5-hour delay on the QF29 today resulting in a 1am departure for QF128 back to SYD from HKG tonight.
There was a delay on QF 29 yesterday as well on QPI - that arrived at 2006 instead of 1735

Today, the flight is operated by QPC

QF41 also appears to have been delayed for 24 hours, and QF43 is delayed 4 hours.

QF43/44 now changed to a 333 (was 332).

Tomorrow's QF43/44 also already delayed by 1hr 50min.
QF43 is now further delayed to 22.30, resulting in QF44 now departing DPS at an ungodly hour of 03.20 for a noon arrival into SYD tomorrow.

As far as I can tell, from Sydney today the international A330 operations are:

QF103 Honolulu on-time
QF83 Singapore on-time

QF127 Hong Kong delayed 1 hr
QF87 Seoul delayed 1.5 hrs
QF19 Manila delayed 3.5 hrs
QF59 Tokyo delayed 1.5 hrs
QF43 Denpasar delayed 6 hrs
QF41 Jakarta delayed 24 hrs

Is this business as usual these days, or is the industrial action causing this? QF43 has been on the ground since arriving from Hong Kong earlier this morning.

Curfew is approaching.

the return flight from HKG to SYD on 128 - departed at 0213 instead of 1930 (16/12) - arriving at 1410 instead of 0745 - 6 hrs delay!
Rolling on with the A330 ops at SYD today:
  • QF67 to BLR - running 4h+ late due to the late arrival of QF44 (QPI)
  • QF87 to ICN - running 4h late due to the late arrival of QF128 (QPC)
  • QF41 to CGK - running 1h late as they are probably ferrying EBN up from BNE to operate this flight
  • QF43 to DPS - running 5h+ late possibly due to EBQ's ferry flight back from LAX arriving later than expected
Meanwhile in MEL, QF69 formed by the arriving QF38 (EBS) now also running 4h+ late.

Melbourne is not much better with the QF 29 to HKG is late again today! This time is the QPB - which did arrive from NRT on QF80 ONTIME this morning!

On today’s QF123 that’s just been cancelled after boarding. Issue with a navigation system required for ZQN.
Today’s QF122 delayed 40 minutes with a passenger vomiting after boarding. Call went out for a doctor, who assessed the passenger. The medical kit was opened, which then required an engineer to re-tag it. The doctor was then upgraded to 1A (I was in 1C), with the original 1A relegated to 4C. Each J pax party (around 4 or 5 across the 12 seats) then received a creatively wrapped bottle of wine and cheerful seasons greetings from the CSM. To top it off, we landed on runway 07 into SYD, first time I’ve ever noticed experiencing this. Eventful flight, but no complaints.

MORE A330 troubles!!

QF 30 HKG toMEL on QPG delayed to 0210 departure on 18/12 instead of 1930 the night before, now scheduled to arrive in Melbourne @ 1354 instead of 0745- the aircraft operated QF127 from SYD to HKG ONTIME… so there is no talk of inbound delay, the issue strictly happened in HKG, no weather delays in HKG either…

Big update for A330 issue today out of Melbourne - QF29 is 10 hours delayed to HKG instead of 1105, now it will be 2245 tonight! and this will impact the return of a flight - either QF128 to SYD or the 30 return to MEL on 19/12/2024!

It is the QF30 that's impacted - now estimated to depart at 06.35 tomorrow morning (19 December).

thanks for the update... this is getting out of control where A330 fleet is constantly running excessive delays that are within QF control... (non weather and non medically related)

Pity the poor passengers on last night's QF44, who were meant to have left at 2am last night but are now leaving at 7am instead. I hope they were told early enough not to have to wait overnight at the airport terminal.

Sounds like they're just trying to get through day by day at this point. At some point, they may need to do a reset on the lines of flying otherwise the delays will keep rolling. It's not just aircraft that are affected but crews as well as they will either be out of position, or not have sufficient rest before their next rostered flights, which I suspect is partly causing some of the delays (not purely down to aircraft rotation).

QF44 on the runway in DPS now - scheduled to arrive in Sydney at 1555.

QF43 landed in DPS at the same time as Monday, but then waited until 7am to depart (rather than 3:30am as with Monday). Possibly the crew timed out? Not sure what happened as Monday’s went out much earlier.

On Monday’s QF44, only 180 passengers stayed to fly in Y and an announcement was made that “we're short on crew so please be patient as we work to keep you fed and satisfied“.

It's now turned into a 13-hour delay as QF29 is now further delayed to leave at 00.40 tomorrow morning (19 December). Not sure what's causing the delay but given there are no A333s are the moment in MEL, there is a chance that one of the aircraft in SYD will ferry down to MEL later tonight.

I guess the moral of the story is - there is a chance you might end up leaving up to half a day later than you planned to if travelling on a QF A330. :(

The passengers might be pushed onto CX services as they are part of one world alliance??

Heaven forbid that they actually start thinking about customer convenience !! Now when we travel other then allowing an extra day for any connection because of potential delays, we will have to allow an extra day (or two) on the return for QF's inability to run anything close to their "non guaranteed" schedule !! Or perhaps we travel with an airline that is not a joke and actually runs on schedule. Well done to the new CEO and board.

I thought that would be the norm to accommodate passengers to the next available flight if they are in the same airline alliance?
