Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Just arrived at SYD for tonights QF11, 3 hours before arrival. Told we can't check in as there is an engineering issue, but to return at 4pm. Any ideas if a flow-on impact from LHR, or otherwise? Aircraft appears to be VH-OQI, possibly one short from rotation with QF1 and QF1D departing SYD this morning.

The Qantas 'flight status' on its website doesn't show any delays to QF11 but you're the man on the spot.

In more on Monday 24 March 2025, the overnight delayed QF1D (A388 VH-OQA) was in SIN from 1110 hours to takeoff at 1312. It is expected to arrive LHR tonight local time at 1923 hours, 788 minutes late.

In turn, this will delay tonight's QF2, the scheduled 2010 hours LHR-SIN-SYD.

QF11 delayed until tomorrow at 10:30pm. Appears QF63 had an aborted takeoff on OQK, returned to gate and pax swapped onto OQI due for departure shortly. Suspect the issue is with OQK, and told we will be on an alternative arriving from SIN.

QF63 had a fault this morning with an aircon unit warning. Engineering spent an hour plus trying to locate/fix problem and everything looked good after a reset. Fault indicated again on 2nd taxi to runway and plane returned to the terminal. Just boarded for what looks like a 6pm departure. Crew is from a planned LA flight.

Separately seems to be an issue with QF63 - showing runway delay of 3 hours on FlightAware.
That sounds not ok the fact that you were not allowed to check in. What were you meant to do,stand up in line until check in opened?

I wonder whether they have the QF J and F Lounge open earlier than usual.
The Monday morning departure happened to me on June the 3rd last year. Was meant to depart on the Sunday afternoon on the QF1. But found out on the Saturday morning it was delayed. I had a few things on in London on the Monday before flying to Malta on the Tuesday. They did offer to send me via Perth but thankfully I said no. That was the weekend if you remember the fuel supply at Perth airport shat itself. My flight was delayed due to crew sickness in London. Anyway flew CBR-SYD on the Sunday afternoon and QF paid for the Rydges on the Sunday night. Check in opened at 4AM for a 6AM departure and they opened the first lounge and the J lounge at 0430 (30 minutes early) with boarding at 0515. We eventually left at 0630.

That would make sense as the original crew would have timed out. The 11 going at 22:30 now would be a crew off reserve which would explain the delay. Plus it would give them time to fix OQK by the sounds of it.

Thanks so much - I acutally was wondering about the Lounge situation in Singapore for that flight!

They tend to keep the SIN lounges open late when there are delays. I would assume if something has happened to cause an unplanned morning flight out of SIN, they open the lounges for said flight, assuming they have enough time to arrange staff for the extra shift.

QF43 has diverted to ASP this morning to offload a passenger, suggested to be medical-related. With QF now consistently (exclusively) operating B737 aircraft on this route, at least the diversion won’t add to the delays currently affecting the A330 fleet

Did you mean QF46? B738 VH-VZG was in ASP until 0734 hours this morning on its DPS-MEL flight.
