Qantas Departure Information email

Well it didn't work within 24 hours either back then. Got a flight tomorrow night and got the usual email and the usual error. I tried it through a different browser just in case (currently Firefox, tried Chrome) and got the same result.
I should email Qantas I guess. They got onto another problem I had with entering USA visa numbers a while back. Just got to find the right email address to use.

one thing I have wondered about is why can QF not include a MS outlook or Google calendar invite with emails they send out... that way a simple click and it is in my calendar rather than their system where you have to export using third party software (which does not work on my 'nix system)

You can always use TripIt for calendar integration. It's not as neat as having them include a .ics file, but you can just forward your itinerary to them, and it'll auto update a calendar for you (CalDav - Just subscribe your calendaring software of choice to the TripIt CalDav server and it 'just works').

Works great with iCal and presumably anything with the ability to subscribe to a CalDav server.

Thanks... I will look into it... but my point still stands... it would be an easy thing to do!

This is Qantas IT here you're talking about. They can't get a link in an email working what hope do we have for them making it easier for us to manage our bookings via a simple .ics file ;)

Well I emailed them and they came straight back asking me to forward them an example so I did that. Also asked why we never receive an email for return legs.
Will see.

Anyone get annoyed by the fact that if you get an exit row you can't print out a boarding pass?
That just happened to me, has happened before but I haven't remarked upon it. I know you have to 'confirm' that you will do your duty with the door but shouldn't it be taken as read for frequent flyers? Am sure it's a regulation.

I don't get annoyed by it, rather encouraged by it as the airline has used their electronic systems to ensure that their duty of care to all passengers in respect of exit rows is being carried out.

People's circumstances change, and you can't take it as read for any class of passenger. If they don't do all the requisite checks and questions, they put themselves at legal and financial risk.

I guess they want to check you out prior to boarding - much easier sorted if you're obviously incapacitated in some way at the counter rather than at the gate or on the plane.

I actually was, on one occasion (last Feb, MEL-BNE) able, much to my surprise, to print my own exit row BP. I asked about it in the MEL J lounge and the chap furrowed his brow and agreed that it shouldn't have happened, but could not explain why it did.

On another occasion not long after I had a non-exit seat MEL-ADL and as I approached the boarding gate one of the agents pointed at me and said 'here's one'! I briefly wondered what I had done wrong, then noticed a lady standing to the side with a pair of crutches and the penny dropped.

She had an exit row, and they wanted me to swap with her. I reluctantly (not!) agreed, but wonder how she got as far as the gate with an exit row BP, unless perhaps the same system 'glitch' had occurred in her case as in my MEL-BNE.

Or perhaps my opening para is completely wrong and they don't particularly care at checkin.

i was on a midday flight from mel-adl last tuesday and went up at the QP to see if i could get a seat (only a NB, was on an invite into qp) and they checked and said check at the gate.

so i get to the gate and ask, and i get told only 2 rows further up in the middle, so i stuck with my window seat.

so once i boarded i had a look and the spare seat was in fact exit row. you would have thought the QP or gate staff would have realised this and given it to me, especially since i'm quite tall..

Some action on this front from tech support. Got this email today.

Thank you for your further correspondence and example email.

The team which oversee Pre-Departure Emails have conducted internal
testing, however have been unable to rectify this issue with test data.
They have forwarded this matter to our software provider for further
investigation.

Once we have received more information we shall reply in more detail.

At least they didn't say they could not reproduce it which was my worst fear.

Well I still can't use this email to go to online check-in. Just the same generic error/'start over' screen again so props to QF IT for doing bugger all about fixing the bug.

I even tested it using a different email program but it still failed.

Only revived this thread in line with the comments about how they can't fix the PS seat selection bug until May.

When I was in TSV last week I heard an ad on the radio for a company that promised to "take the SH out of your IT".

Well I chuckled.

Strange how no one else is having this issue. Which email program are you using? I have been using Hotmail without any issues. Must try it on Yahoo and Lotus Notes. Don't use Outlook.

Not everyone in IT is hopeless or full of false promises.

I've tried it using Gmail (my default) and Outlook and it doesn't work with either. I've tried it using Firefox (default) and Chrome and no dice either. QF IT did say they found the problem but couldn't fix it at this stage.

Not going to hold my breath. Might see if I can do it from another computer perhaps.

I have just tried using Gmail and received a generic error

"Please review the following items.

Bad Action value. Please check your request and try again. (55006)"

It works just great with Yahoo and Hotmail....

Have u tried just copying the link and pasting that into IE? That may help narrow down where the issue is. The links to MMB from the email seem to work from my email programme ( Agent )

Dave

Tried copying the link into the other browsers with the same result.
Still doesn't work with Outlook. Will have to set up a dummy Yahoo account and test.

Note that the email now includes your seat number and a link to change it. Of course that doesn't work either and even if it did as a PS I can't get the button to change seats until May.
