Qantas doesn't care about priority boarding

CBR last week on a flight to MEL. Boarding was down the far gate down the far end near where you can walk onto the apron for Dash 8 flights. No priority boarding signs at all. Just one queue. They probably just know 90% of pax would be in the priority queue anyway.

It's a dog's breakfast in Adelaide. Worse than ever now. Everyone ignores any instructions.

I went through security at ADL late morning on Saturday. Huge line in the security queue and no one in the priority one. Not policed. Worked well for me.

I don't remember that gate a CBR ever having a priority queue, even at the best of times. Who needs one for a Dash 8?

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I meant the normal air bridge near where the Dash 8 boarding is. Flight was a 717 using the air bridge but not priority boarding in place.

Yes. Now you mention that It wasn't there last week either!
I was there on Saturday.

It wasn't last Wednesday as I went over to check. Maybe at last it's been reinstated. I hope so. Husband will check tomorrow. Husband just confirmed it wasn't there last Tuesday either.

Adelaide seem a bit uncomfortable with the premium security lane concept. There wasn't one for years, then one appeared but disappeared quick smart when Covid came along.
Sydney is back to normal, although I've yet to see anyone guarding the premium security lane. They were guarding premium check in. Qantas premium boarding was as sub-standard as ever. I've been mainly flying VA for the last six months and it was a bit of a shock to find myself standing in an overheated and crowded air-bridge again!

  • The flight attendants rarely actually check to make sure those in the priority queue are meant to be there. The solution is easy - turn away passengers that shouldn't be there (like VA does). I get that some flight attendants might not want to do this because they're going to see the passengers again on board, but it's necessary if priority boarding is to work.
For those of us QF Golds who travel on JQ regularly, this could be seen as an advantage. Indeed, yesterday alone I went through the priority security lane at ADL flying JQ back to SYD. No one checked my boarding pass or card despite me saving a good 15 minutes in line.

Great to hear that line is back. Only in last few days. 👌🏻

Only because staff don’t put their foot down.
It was similar at VA in ADL when I flew out Monday morning. Had a great staff member who was turning them away and sending them to the back of the queue, they soon got the jist and realised their attempts were futile. Stamp it out early
So not "similar at VA" at all! Completely the opposite in fact. (wink emoji)

Credit where it’s due. When I arrived at the gate for my BNE-SYD flight this morning I was pleased to see PB being enforced.

Firstly the general boarding lane was roped off while the premium lane was boarding.

Also, three pax who used the premium lane were stopped at the scanner and told by the agent they had to join the general boarding lane.

After being made to do the walk of shame they pushed in very near to the front of the general boarding queue causing more grumbles down the line.

While it was pleasing to see PB enforced, it doesn’t make up for the J award seats LHR-SYD that I lost this morning due to call centre errors… but I digress.

To add some more data points the 3 times I’ve flown from BNE in the last month it’s always been properly working. Never had to line up even when arriving towards the middle of boarding PB line has always been empty. Maybe someone at Brisbane managment took a flight.

Oddly enough, when going through BNE recently (last week or two), PB was not enforced. One queue in the PB line, no turnbacks, no announcement, not a care in the world.

Previously, BNE has been the only port where PB was consistently enforced.

In my experience, there was no PB queue when boarding from gates 13, 14 in CBR airport. Those are the gates with only one queue, if I remember correctly?

Also in CBR airport (unsure if other airports do this), service desk makes an announcement inviting QF SG, WP, OW-E, EK SG & WP to arrive for priority boarding at the gates. A few mins later, another announcement for all remaining pax to board at the gate. Now, I'm not sure if this announcements have always been there, I never noticed it, until recently.

CBR-SYD on the Dash 8s don't bother with PB. They haven't bothered with it for CBR-SYD on the 717 either.

I'm talking CBR-MEL on a 737/717, and CBR-BNE on a 737.
