Qantas Domestic Flight Upgrades

U seats being available for reward bookings doesn't equate being available for upgrade, does it? Happy to be wrong on this one.
I just remember the time we flew DFW-SYD.
This thread is about Domestic Upgrades as per the thread title.

For International upgrades you are correct as they are processed differently from domestic upgrades, starting a week before the flight for P1/CL, 3 days for WP.

Received a bid offer for a upgrade on a red e-deal QF 840 for 11FEB. Offer of $410 + 0 points has me around the midpoint according to their gauge.

Sorry if I’ve missed this in another thread.

Has Qantas quietly “enhanced” their domestic Classic Upgrade Rewards so that they are no longer instantly confirmed when there is U class availability?

Last night I requested some domestic upgrades for flights in April, and none of them were instantly confirmed despite U class availability on all flight segments.

Looking at this page on the Qantas website (https://www.qantas.com/au/en/frequent-flyer/use-points/classic-upgrade-rewards.html), there is no mention on domestic upgrades being instantly confirmed when available. Instead it gives a three day window prior to departure.

As a data point, I am WP and have more than enough points to pay for the upgrades. I also waited until after the flights were ticketed before making the requests. I have also cancelled the requests and tried again without any luck.

There have been responses up thread. No, upgrade requests are not always instant. The terms have not changed. It might also depend on the destination as QF move and cancel flights as borders open and demand increases. The aircraft might be changed too if not full enough. My own recent upgrade requests were successful several weeks after the booking and request were made. Even as WP, there is still the possibility of waiting until closer to the flight.

I have not experienced any of that that for domestic upgrades.

Find U class on a flight, book economy on same flight. Wait for e-ticket email (maybe up to 30 minutes), request upgrade online, confirmed strait away (as long as U class still available).

I made this rookie mistake on a 2 sector domestic booking .U seats were available . I purchased economy fare and immediately ticket issued , requested an upgrade online and nil happened for 24 hours even though u seats seen on expertflier and the qff site!
I checked again , u seats available for both sectors and rang QFF and asked for it to be done manually . The first upgrade came thru fine but someone had taken the u seat for the second sector !
There are 8 empty unallocated seats in J in that flight and dates are in march so i am hopeful .
Has anyone had the experience as a Platinum and above of calling up and asking the agent to contact yield management or whatever for an award seat to be released as can be done for award bookings ?
Current flight in expertflier lists D8 I7 .

Anyone having difficulties requesting domestic upgrades for family members? I continually get a message that ‘we’re experiencing difficulties, please try again later’… along with a note that ‘we’re aware of the problem’.

U space is available. Original booking is discount economy, ticketed.

I haven't upgraded family members but I did request a classic upgrade to business class for my November SYD > CBR flight via the QF app and that worked swimmingly yesterday.

Unsure if this has any bearing on family upgrades but thought I'd share the data point.

Thanks… there didn’t appear to be any link via the app for family members. Ended up calling and the agent (SA) processed the request… could not confirm it… even though there was U class available :(

Checked back regularly and status remained ‘on request’… U has since become unavailable.

Lightbulb moment… now T-80… jumped on and reserved row 4.

Back on to QF.com and cancelled upgrade request. Too easy!
