Interesting question, Would the cash donation given by Qantas be treated differently for tax purposes than the "In Kind" donation of airfares given by Rex?
And how would Rex account for it in their profit and loss? Is it free travel which might be classed as marketing? or is it a donation?
(none of which really matters BTW ,just interested)

Watching the cricket (3/167 needing another 77 off 72 balls)

Fosters $750k
Adidas $200k + 10% of sales this saturday in Adisdas stores victoria.
Ford - 4 rangers (given to cfa) + auctioned a mondeo (current bid: $27k) sum totalling about $150k at rrp

Commonwealth bank Bushfire appeal $5,461,812!! Includes 200k from CBA + $100/run + $1000/six tonight.

Go Aussie (and I dont mean in the cricket!)

Well done to all, I say.

We can compare the generousity of various companies, etc.; but is this fair?

These decisions are made at different times, based on different information.

Who knows what information the various boards had in front of them at the time they made their decision to donate; who knows when that decision was made? I certainly don't.

I think the important thing is whether those who can afford to give, actually do give what they can afford; the amount is not the critical factor. I will discuss with she that must be obeyed tomorrow when she returns home from her most recent travels.

I know that those on this community will also be most generous.

Regards,

James

Many companies budget for these sort of donations. I'll be interested to see, when I go back to work tomorrow, what my company has donated. They are often quite generous when it comes to these sort of situations.
ExxonMobil Australia has donated A$750,000 to the Australian Red Cross 2009 Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund.

They have also provided support jointly with BHP Billiton to the Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund.

Well done to both
ExxonMobil Australia and BHP Billiton :).
The generosity shown so far by corporate Australia has been great to see.sometimes big business in Australia cops a bit of flak, and sometimes rightly so,but in times like this it's good to see some real spirit of generosity prevailing.

Yes, indeed, you are right. I suspect it comes from the marketing/PR budget.

Perhaps some of the Qantas money came from Joycey's spare change,eh,platy !

Maybe QF Group would get more value out of its CEO if his salary came out of the marketing budget!

They could dress him up as a leprechaun and send him out into the woods with his magic money pot!

Geez, they would get some media coverage for that - maybe even more than that poor old thirsty koala with burnt paws or Branson parading with girls in bikinis!!! :p :D ;)

Yeah,BTW I reckon they should have named that koala platy, seemed very thirsty !:p

It may have taken 1.5 years for your first post, but welcome to AFF Cabbage.

Agree with your comments. If QF jumped off a bridge, would DJ be expected to?

I would also suggest that even though DJ hasn't put out press releases etc, they would more than likely be doing something within the company.

In the normal scheme of things Koala's don't drink.....so must have been really thirsty..
Yeah that's right, they get all their liquid through the gum leaves they eat don't they.
Apparently they also gorge themselves for 4 hours and then sleep for the other twenty, sounds like a few AFF members! (Sorry mods for going O/T)

The spirit of Australia helps out again when needed. Austrlaia is lucky to have such a great aussie icon and carrier.

Let's see if other airlines are as generous as QF. I bet DJ won't be as generous

About Qantas - Media Room - Media Releases

Was on a Di flight tonight. They are collecting donations onboad for red cross. Virgin blue will then match the donation dollar for dollar for the next few days. We got 200 on our 60% load flight to Canberra

QANTAS has added a similar thing to their pre-flight message. What I thought was interesting was after it was all finished.... 2 mins later the CSM said "News just in, QF has just hit 75k!".

A bit fishy if you ask me...
