Does anybody have more clarity on outback PNR recycles and these new terms and conditions? It's still not clear to me how they'll work for route changes.

I read the October DSC thread a few days ago to prepare, and someone commented that they received DSC on an old flight credit that they used during the October DSC period for a new booking.

So it sounds like Qantas may have the capability to differentiate between the flight credit creation date and new flight booking date. But whether they have implemented it to stop the outback strategy is unclear.

It's actually quite frustrating because during the last DSC period I booked a number of MEL -> BNE flights in J and when I tried to move them due to other travel commitments, they tried to hit me with a new fare almost $1000 higher than the old one (the old one was $604).

That was regardless of how far in the future I tried to move the flight, so I put that back into a flight credit. It'll be highly inconvenient if this is a new thing for QF moving forward.

I'm looking to book a trip which may not finalise before the 18th, what's the best way to lock in a PNR now? Is it as simple as purchasing a Y flex SYD-MEL (via Qantas website) and converting it to an international multi-city in a few weeks' time and pay the fare difference? Assuming travel dates are well inside 2025. Thanks

Or is that not allowed with Y's flexi credits? Just trying to get my understanding around the flight credit policy.

Even though the T&Cs say AEDT in practice QF’s computer systems run on UTC. If you book before midnight UTC on the opening day of the promo you may find the DSC do not automatically credit. You can request them but QF would want to see the e-ticket and boarding passes and for you to wait the time specified in the T&Cs that the DSCs may take to credit before contacting QF to get it sorted.

I thought that it went by AEDST, not UTC. If someone could confirm, that would be great.

I registered for the promotion, via my laptop (not the phone application) within a couple of hours of it becoming active (I have the confirmation e-mail as proof). I then proceeded to complete a couple of bookings of bookings. All of this was prior to 12/03 UTC (but on 12/03 AEDST). Should my new bookings count towards DSC?
(The bookings covered QF domestic and QF Trans-Tasman within the valid date range, so should be eligible.)

I booked even earlier during the last DSC sale and had no issue but I'm a bit concerned after reading some comments.

I plan/hope to book some more (maybe as placeholders and cop any change fees when I need to update the dates).

When you tried to change the flights, could you see availability for a lower price if you were to make a new booking?

If so, this may be a situation where you have to call and have them make the change. Similar to using a credit for a new booking - the lowest fares do not always show when rebooking.

In previous years when I went to change the booking - as long as it was far enough ahead the price difference would be $50 and I’d be happy to pay it to switch.

This time around every option was near or over $1000 each direction.

When looking at the site for a new booking, they were all $604, which was the original price I paid. I’ll try calling them next time to see what the story is.

Did all my flight research when DSC offer was announced at midnight, but due to warning re not booking until 11am (12am UTC) result has been the outbound flight went up by $313 as others snapped the best fares.

Waiting was bad advice imo and in future I would not wait again, given email says from midnight AEDT I think Qantas would have honored the DSC without issue.

Very happy with return flight CHC - MEL - OOL in Business $2.5/SC the kiwis definitely get a lot better pricing than us Aussies. Just unhappy with how expensive the outbounds now are.

A PC status run out of MEL thanks to a little quirk of another airline's award program (who may be having a miles sale atm).

Make sure you book for a guest so you can change the FF number to your Qantas one. Otherwise, it gets locked to the other airline's program.
